Granddaughter helped Wife order remote control drapes for our living room.
I'm waiting to see how long the batteries run without recharging.
Granddaughter says there is a solar option??

Mrs. likes them so they are staying, my problem to solve charging.

Lot of love in that build, Andy.
Thanks for the kind words!
"Bought the lady a gift to watch wildlife."

Oh great, another cupola scope to follow my grain hauling adventures :p
I was planning to scope that out.

She watches hunters, too :ROFLMAO:
I have so enjoyed these updates. I really appreciate you taking the time to post them Andy! Just like making a broom, only a little more involved……
Thanks so much for following along.

We found the lot.

She: Don't we need an architect?

Me: No, we'll just sketch something up

Don't we need an contractor?

Nothing to it, dig a ditch, pour concrete in it, lay some blocks, nail some boards, run some wires, insulate, roof, sheetrock, paint, move in.

She was very skeptical but we lucked out. She moved in late June 2023 without cabinets.:willy_nil

I'm waiting too. These are powered by USB-C cords. The batteries are supposed to be good for six months.

You can't just leave them plugged in so I have an array of chargers on a switch in the attic above. When one shade quits working she can flip the switch on for 8 hours and charge them all back up. If they were only 7 ft up I'd run a cord the day it needs charging.

Andy, sounds like we might have same shades, ours are Levelor from Menards, same usb c chargers.
They are 7' and If they last 6 months, I will use a cord. I wouldn't bet your house that the batteries last 6 months :)

I've been sitting in line at the grain terminal and gotten a call from the cupola, 8 miles away, "why are you in the slowest line, we're waiting on you?"

Don't get caught checking out the neighbors sunbathing! Oh yeah, What neighbors! :)

Ours were the house brand at Blinds.com. Cheap but so far so good.

It's been 7 months.

I did buy a 60x spotting scope...

Well we're almost up to date.

The kitchen was almost complete in this picture.

House 381.jpg

We installed an unvented gas fireplace so we needed propane. I was able to buy an unused tank from the next door neighbor early on thinking she wanted a gas range. That passed but the tank came in handy anyway. I set it on the slope.

House 382.jpg

There is still room for Bob to walk down the hill.

Interesting story about gas. A local town has a gas supply pipeline that crosses near here. They service houses on this road. I called the to inquire about extending the gas line to the new house. The guy in charge is apparently lazy and wanted me to extend the line down the county road from the last meter. I was willing to pay for them to extend it, but I don't want to own a gas pipeline across someone else's property. Unfortunately I was in the pipeline industry for 40 years and know that is quite out of line. So she has a total electric house.

I fired up the sawmill and split a cedar tree to place on each end of the front porch. Yet needs to be sealed.

House 383.jpg

On Christmas Day she had 18 family members for lunch.

A little paint

House 406.jpg

And you have handrails. Wall brackets were cheap so I didn't try to cast them.

House 392.jpg

House 405.jpg

Going to the third floor the handrail was too long to make the corner and I wanted one piece so I cut a hole in the wall and stuck it into the attic before heading up the stair.

House 393.jpg

I bought cheap fill sand to smooth out the yard. It came with bermuda grass and did a nice job covering. Later this year I'll fill teh erosion areas and she'll have a lawn with no effort.

Andy, now you must share a photo of what @shortykorte's room looks like inside.

Speaking of which, watch your step exiting the door above left, it might be a tough first step.

JB
I'll definitely get a picture of his room.

The door you mention is where I show unwanted guests a special place for them. Sometimes to be successful you've got to just take that big first step...

Andy, where did you get those stands? Most recently seen supporting the handrail as you fabricate it.
They belong to my grandson who fabbed the handrail on the balcony. He's a pipeline welder, they're standard equipment and fold up nicely. Lots of adjustment. I also used them to line up the basement to balcony pipe to get it very straight.

Andy, I don't know about the tile saw but I do know Shorty spends a lot of time in hot water.
Ummm, it's called bathing, Bob. But I think it takes two hands...
That'll buff out.
Please don't go there, buff and Shorty in the same thought concept is so ugly. I hope it's only words and none of us ever have to pay the ultimate price.
At least he will have an “elevated” sleeping position! Less snoring from below…
Actually I've installed hooks for BYOH. Let Shorty get into the swing of things.
I don't know. 🥺 I saw electrical stuff in there and with Shorty's recent electrical experience it might not end well.
Please be kind. Shorty is well grounded in electrical work. Even though he wouldn't get the insinuation, others would understand and diminish what little respect we have left for Shorty.

In all seriousness, I have a shock collar with GPS defined limits and have set it so it knocks him down if he were to go too close to any electrical equipment.
