I feel like an absolute IDIOT.

If y’all’s remember, I bought this Honda 5518 for $300.

Well, I bought a CDI unit for it. Still no spark.

Ordered a combo relay for it.

Traced every damn wire. Safety switch. Tested everything. Everything seemed to be within the tolerances to “work”, according to online research.

Turns out that the previous owners bypassed a safety switch under the seat. The wire was too thick and was not fully seated.

Bypassed their bypass, and heard a click under the hood. Yup.

She fired up with some starter fluid. Fresh fuel, and I drove her up to the neighbors house I bought it at. IMG_3800.jpegIMG_3802.jpeg

I’ll keep the CDI box and the combo relay as spares. But damn. I wish I had caught that before shelling out the $250! Ouch.

Decided to update the firmware in the SYNC system in the 22 Explorer. Have it connected to the WiFi in the garage - check for an update it claims there isn't one. Register on the Ford owners site and it says there is one - to update via WiFi follow these instructions - exactly what I had already done. I can download it to a USB drive but then I have to upload a file back to Ford so they know what version I'm running so they know if I need an update that they won't push to the Explorer to begin with.
Fortunately I'm not having any issues that need to be fixed so I decided to just walk away and leave it be.
I do need to download a map update at some point though and it is USB only. I don't consider that to be a big deal normally but they aren't instilling any confidence in me after tonight.

Cleaned up one heck of a mess. Ended up with half a huge Craftsman Shop Vac full of leaves that had blown in over the years, two garbage bags full of trash, and I was able to clean out besiide and around the toolbox, assemble a shelving unit (the plastic ones from Ollie's are cheap, but a PITA to assemble), get the fencing tools organized--oh, and I found a pretty nice Klein brace drill hidden under the ****.

And I'm not even half done.

Over the past few days. . .
Still restrictions to stay out of the sun and limit my steps, so perfect conditions to putter in the shop. The reorganization goes on. Most of the tossing and purging has slowed. However, reorganizing due to needing to move the heater and installation of a new people door to the pending garage addition lead to moving almost all of my boxes, and rebuilding the out feed table. And a minor coffee mixing distraction.

Yesterday. . . Steel and a lawn ornament were delivered. Boxes are in place, cleaned, reorganized, and relabeled, garage addition site is cleared, "Stuff" has been moved out of the way, and the saw is set to be sold. (Shouldn't be able to get away with that chain on it!)unnamed-3.jpgunnamed-4.jpgunnamed-5.jpgunnamed-6.jpgunnamed-7.jpgunnamed-8.jpgunnamed.jpg

Finally after working 4-10s this week I was able to get down to the Auto glass shop and pick up my windshield they did.

finally cobbled enough of the parts to the driveline shop that they couldn’t get due to their vendors couldn’t get and finally got the hammer down on getting my driveshafts built next week.

time to hit up Walmart to see if they can beat Canadian Tire’s price of $22.77 a can to finish off the frame and get it installed! Ain’t perfect but hell all I am focused on getting this truck out on the trails to find the bugs! Plan to be wiring in the switch panel today so I not only got a truck that starts off with a bump switch but my Light bar will be another small thing knocked off the list.

night shift next week for a few or more, so I will have way more time to hit up the shops when they actually open!

Jacked up the ShitBoxHonda. Pulled & pushed on the wheels to check for play in the wheel bearings, examined brake pads.
All good... Confused by noise when braking... which sounds/feels like the pads are down to the metal, but there's 5-6mm left on each pad...Nothing stuck in the pads.

Have a sneaking suspicion I'm missing something (other than some of my marbles)

Finally got around to changing the oil in the Cummins truck.

I went a couple thousand over mileage. Should be ok lol

Also blew out the air filter. It wasn’t too bad. But it’ll need changed next oil change.

Truck runs just a bit smoother now Lmao

The little scratchy, scrubbies rubbing on the rotor? Maybe the little tin pad slides rubbing? Slightly bad wheel bearing letting the **** shields rub? Rust or balance clips hanging out of the air slots rubbing on things?

*Oil change, tire rotation, cabin air filter on my kid's challenger
*Oil change on my avalanche. Gotta prep for the ride to Michigan in 2 weeks.
*Had to clean up the oil i spilled. Argh.
*Took grass clippings, oil and an old stove down to the local ecological center.
*went to use the beater Honda. No start. Threw the jump box on it, moved it into the driveway, connected the trickle charger to it.
*went to move the z. Carb loaded up like crazy. It's been odd all spring, running rich. I started looking at it, got hangry and stopped lol. Maybe tomorrow. I hate this carb.

Mojave Desert car, zero rust anywhere (except in the rotor vents). If I wash the dirt off the suspendies, wheels, brakes & steering gubbins etc everything basically looks new (altho the struts actually are).
I think I'm going to pull the front right brake apart & take another look during the week. I will say that at almost 200k miles the rotors are getting a bit thin.

In related news, really liking my spiffy new Horrible Fright Earthquake rattle gun.

Loaded up the tiny race car jack, impact, sockets, torque wrench and a full set of summer wheels/tires for little kid's Oddy and drove 500kms. to their new house to finish the last of changeovers. Will come home with tools and a new bicycle (present from Son-in-law) to ride with our other grand kids (4 boys 4,6,10,12). STUNNED by their new digs. Their kitchen/dining room is about same size as the entire house next door to us.

Found myself back out in the garage tonight just putzing around. Decided to make another sign for the shop display.

Looking over my stash of wood letters, I thought I'd try making an 'OFFICE' sign. I always liked the old train track crossing signs with the glass reflectors in the letters. But, not having any glass reflectors, I went with some chrome tacks.

An hour later and this is what I ended up with....Now to decide if I should mount the individual letters right to the door or on a seperate board (possibly painted white so the black letters show up better) that I could screw or hot glue that to door. 1713668895182.jpeg

Oh yeah this is how I did it...

Started by painting the letter faces black semi-gloss. Then I marked and drilled the tiny holes in them on the drill press. Next I took the chrome tacks and nipped off the pointed tips a little because they were a little longer then the thickness of the letters themselves.

Next I broke out the HF battery glue gun, took one of the tacks and using my small headed Matco magnetic pick up tool to hold it, (which it fit perfectly on the tool), touched the tip of the tack to a little hot glue from the gun and then just pushed it into the pre-drilled holes one after another until they were all done. 1713669910295.jpeg1713669896279.jpeg

I vote for the sign board. That way, when you want to move it you can.

Still reorganizing the shop. The corner is where the most action is going on. I need to remove the heater, because that is where the door to the addition will go. I also needed to cut back my dirty bench. It will now be more of a desk space for paperwork, like service records, and a tool space to set screws, filters, etc. The space above it also needs to be emptied, since that is where the mini-split will end up (I think). The stuff in the second picture will eventually go in the garage addition.

Even got the beer fridge empty for its semi annual cleaning. While that was empty and pulled down I investigated why a couple outlets, and some lights cease to work…..better half goes yeah I noticed the dusk to dawn lights ain’t working when I thought I heard someone out in the back lane The other night.

figured out it was half of the main breaker downstairs was half clicked off. All fixed up and beer fridge stocked up again
