Does anyone remember Craftsman Industrial Tools? These were available before Craftsman Professional. They even had their own separate catalog. Also, when did the change to Craftsman Pro take place?
Thanks, Dave

I still have my 404 pc diesel set that my parents bought for me after I graduated from Truck and Diesel Tech school back in 1987. I got the set out of the industrial catalog. The tool set was for diesel mechanics. The set even had a 3/4 inch drive set. Only pc. I don't still have is the 1/4 inch drive round head pro ratchet. I wish I still had that ratchet. I got that set about three days before I started my new job as a bus mechanic working on MC 9 coaches and Fish bowels. I remember how I could carry every tool that I owned in my Craftsman tool 5 draw top and 6 draw bottom box. I also remember setting up my brand new tool box and all my brand new shiney tools and my supervisor handing me a broom and telling me "this is how everyone starts" I think I sweep the floor and fueled buses for the first week. :bounce:

I have a Craftsman Industrial drill. It was a good drill but I used it for too much grinding and it has a little wobble now and the bearing make some noise. It was a good drill for a long time.

I never heard of this. Some picts would be cool.
It sounds like it's just regular craftsman tools, but with 3/4 drive sizes

I saw a black handled Craftsman Industrial screwdriver at the flea market recently. I had not heard of that particular line, and was not looking to buy screwdrivers that day, so I left it. It seemed like a nice piece, though.

I had a Craftsman Industrial router. It was an amazing piece of machinery, may it rest in peace.

I have a Craftsman Industrial 4.5" angle grinder that has served me well since at least 1995 (man time flies). I actually bought it at a local Sears store, didn't even have to use the catalog.
Thanks, Dave

I remember in the late 1980's and 1990's, Craftsman had some black industrial finish tools (sockets, ratchets, extensions, wrenches, pliers, chisels, and punches) that were sold through Fastenal stores. I saw some of these industrial tools as late as about 2005 in a local Fastenal store.

I have a Craftsman Industrial electric drill. Originally a 3/8, rechucked it to 1/2. Single speed that will just about break your wrist if you hit something wrong.

It could be a case where Sears decided the industrial tool channel was not panning out the way they had hoped. Instead of abandoning their investment, they put some lipstick on their pig and repositioned their industrial line as their Professional line. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

That's definitely what happened, the Industrial line became the Professional line. Looks like from the catalog pic it happened around 1996. There was also an older line called Craftsman Commercial. I have never owned any of these but have seen pics of some tools, especially air tools, labeled Craftsman Commercial. Does anyone know the first year that the Craftsman Industrial line of tools became available?
Thanks, Dave

I started working @ Sears around 01'-02' timeframe; we had a Sears Industrial Catalog at the store... I tried to call a number of times. I believe they closed the industrial division of Sears around that time frame... from what I remember, it was during this time they were reorganizing Sears and Roebuck to try get the company back into a more profitable trend.... soon there after Kmart bought out Sears. They also closed the service and parts dept. @ our store; then, all the parts went online... all attempts to downsize and reorganize for turning the company around.

I have a Craftsman Commercial 1/2 inch single speed drill bought about 1967. Works fine but haven't used it all that much, just when I have serious drilling to do. A variable speed drill is much more useful.

I picked this one up a few weeks ago ($20), very stout, repaired a few of the guides and replaced some missing stop springs, lube, works great, now stores my lesser used heavy equip. tools.

i have a 3/8" 12V cordless from the early 90s. it ran great until '00 or '01. it had a lifetime warranty and they even replaced it when i dropped it (from about 10' onto concrete) and bent the chuck. i should say, they insisted on replacing it. i was willing to pay for a new chuck. guy, laughed and got me a new one out of the box. i was so blown away by it, he gave me the case, charger and batteries!

now, that was service!

it now sits forlornly in its case on a shelf because the batteries are shot. i just can't throw it out and don't have the ambition to rebuild the packs.

I got a Craftsman Industrial router about 12 years ago from my FIL that was missing some pieces.
I called Sears to order the parts and they mentioned it was discontinued and there was a recall for it.
They sent me a brand new router.

Funny, I just bought the industrial wrenches from sears outlet Saturday and they are very nice. 5/16-1 1/4 for 80 out the door. I had up to 7/8 and was going to get the larger wrenches, but the set was cheaper then just getting the wrenches fron SK. I can post pics if anyone wants to see them.
