Hey, I'm racking my brains now. What is the correct way to get a couple of ethernet cables through an exterior wall?

That's for my POE cameras.

Right now I'm temporarly using an unused dryer vent stuffed with a rag to get my ethernet cables outside, but yeah, that's a one star solution.

That's a start, but what kind of box or conduit, etc to make it look neat?

The cable/phone company just drill a hole, put a drip loop in the cable and call it a day, but this is GJ, any way to get something a bit overkill here? Especially since I have 5-6 ethernet cables going out.

So you're just running the cables on the exterior?

Need more info

Are you running all the cables thru one hole and then surface mounting the cables on the outside? If so you will need exterior rated cables unless you run them in conduit

Yup.

I can't drill and fish the cables everywhere the cameras are installed. That would be the best option, but it's just not possible at this point.

Planning to replace the siding one day, so I can then route the cables out of sight, but not an option right now.

Currently running all the cables through an old unused dryer vent. That was done last fall just before winter. Time to make it look better now. I do have exterior rated ethernet cables at this moment.

I drilled hole for the rmc/grc and run it outsides with elbows and boxes .

They do sell mounting boxes for cameras with pre drilled holes for camera brackets

Why not just make some type of plate for the dryer vent to make it look better ? Are you going to use the same hole or punch one for each cable ? The dryer vent actually should work pretty well if you ask me.

Cat 5/5e/6 is easy. Just drill the hole as small as possible and tuck the wire anywhere it will fit. Siding, wood trim, anywhere.

I crimp my own ends, so I can drill tiny holes for just the cable, without the big bulky ends.

Siding block to mount your camera and come into the back of the box with your ethernet cable. Foam seal the hole you drilled.
would it be better to use foam or fireproof caulking for wall penetrations? also may want to consider shoving steel wool in the wall penetration depending on size of hole, if there are big/insect issues. would be easier to remove when need to re-run cable?

Most people just drill a hole, make a drip loop, and caulk it in.

If you want fancy, you could consider an outdoor-rated junction box and liquidtight cable clamps coming out of it. Perhaps look at heyco cordgrip. Look at datasheets, but maybe only the metal heycos are outdoor rated, idk.

Of course use outdoor rated cable.

Or get wireless cameras and steal power with light bulb adapters. I ran wires through the soffet separately near each camera when I had poe cameras, to a switch in the attic.

Most POE manufacturers and resellers offer (optional) junction boxes. Sometimes multiple models for various cameras.

I ran mine through the soffit. Went into the attic- then to the 4 corners of the house. Use a grommet to hold in place on soffit. I have a swann brand camera system . Beng in Florida I ran the wires in the winter t8me so it was not so hot.
