Just for the record of anyone reading this: if woody73 says he is going to buy something, that's it, it's as good as paid for. He's an honorable gentleman from the old school. Those ol' boys just don't always want to enter the plastic/electronic payment world.

I'm not suggesting anyone said differently, I'm just vouching for the gentleman.

+1000.. Woody is a Great Guy and ive sold a few items to him. He's definitely old school and ive always got a kick out of his Letters that he encloses with payment.

I love those letters! You just don't get that kind of warmth from a Paypal transaction. Heck, he even types them on a typewriter, from the looks of it! It's pretty great.

Sounds like a unique character, and the kind of guy that has some great stories!

Woody is awesome. He does write some great letters. I think he is going to be sending me some pics of a Prentiss for ID. It is fun to actually get a true LETTER in the mail. I never get those. Just bills. :(

And sometimes fun stuff like DTI's and aluminum! :)

Figured i have to throw my 2¢ in here. I've had great luck both buying and selling on here.

As far as shipping, my shipping will often depend on how many things i have going out. Generally i list SEVERAL things at once, which means in the first couple days i will sell a good percentage of the items and those will get shipped quickly. Now towards the end of the sale packages take a little longer. why? because i'm not making enough to make it worth my time to drive to the post office for every sale.

Now as far as buying, if i NEED something to finish a job, i would probably call an appropriate local supplier and buy it. If i buy something on here, it would probably be because it is something i could eventually use, or just because its cool. Often i forget i even buy something until it shows up. I really doubt too many people on here make enough off of these sales to make it the #1 priority in their lives.

One last thing .... where do you all live that the post office is actually locked after hours? Most post offices that i have been to are unlocked to allow access to the PO boxes, and often the larger ones have the machine that can weigh and print postage for the package, meaning you can stop by the post office pretty much anytime to do your shipping.

This was one of my first sales here, I have since learned to always ask for insurance, and have the buyer pay. If they dont want insurance, I tell them I will package to the best of my abilities and after I drop off at P.O. I am not liable for anything.

As a seller, it's in your best interest to pay for the insurance. Charge the buyer, make it mandatory, whatever, but the fact of the matter is, you're responsible for making sure the item gets there and in acceptable condition. That's how the auction and payment sites handle things, that's how the Post Office and other carriers handle things.

He says he got it Saturday.. Monday was a holiday, So its been 3 business days. I guess i dont get it... I realize it sounds better to say you sent payment last week and now we're into this week which is almost over and its yet to ship but honestly its been 3 business days. How bout you start a thread when the seller quits communicating/ignoring your Pm's, Emails etc.. I work on Call and luckily my wife does alot of shipping for me while im out of town for work, He might have a job that keeps him busy etc and Maybe just Maybe thats the best info he has for you. I still dont see anything that would warrant creating a thread and bashing a member, Whether you use is name or not. We havent even concluded the 3rd business day yet.....:headscrat

Agreed on all points.

And I'm just not interested in taking a check. No offense, it's nothing personal. Let's be realistic... in this very informative and electronic, automated world... checks and money-orders in comparison, are VERY time-consuming, a bit archaic, and not very easily executed by someone who has a busy and demanding schedule. Trust me, I truly wish I wasn't so busy, but hey... I gotta support my tool habit, right? It's a tad ironic that we're having this discussion on a forum, on the world wide web, where we can IMMEDIATELY post messages, pictures and other bits of information, for the entire world to see, but yet some of us still have to take an ink pen out, write on a document, and physically walk to a mailbox, where another person takes that document, and sends it via many other hands, to a person hundreds (sometimes thousands) of miles away. The receiver then has to take that very document, to a teller in a bank, and exchange it for a few dollars. Seems a bit inefficient, doesn't it?

Money is money. Fortunately, a lot of sellers I've dealt with haven't had a problem taking a check. Paypal costs money, and can be a lot of headaches. Any system is going to have its plusses and minuses. All this instantaneous stuff is fine, but buying tools through the mail still requires a waiting period, does it not?! :headscrat

Sheesh, I need to buy something from Woody, I guess. I would like a letter!

Woody doesn't sell; he buys. You've got to dangle a tasty tool carrot in front of him if you want one of those letters, Bub! :lol_hitti

We had a family dinner last night and I brought this thread up for discussion and the conclusion was that now that children have cell phones, texting, and other sorts of instant gratification that this is what is going to become the norm. Can you imagine some of these kids trying to plant a garden, or worse a tree. I don't think we have done future generations a lot of good with all the electronics we have invented and given to them. Can you imagine that soon these kids will not have the patience for *** and reproduction will be all AI.

I will see what happens first. I will be relentless about it. It is really not cool to rip people off or not ship the damn item. The guy wanted to sell me more! I can not even get him to ship what I have PAID for. WTF

If you used a USPS money order you can check to see if it has been cashed. If so, you then alert the US Postal Inspector about possible mail fraud.

These folks are like Gila Monsters, they never let go.

I told a guy in Florida who kept telling me that the MO had not arrived so I told him I knew it had been cashed and he then "checked" and found out his "brother" had cashed it-- forging a signature? HMMMM.

I got the part fast after that.

Give it a spin, what do you have to lose?

I believe this is my third time expressing this, but I see no need at this time for any kind of action that implies fraud has or is going to be committed! So, what he has to lose would be rationality.

Its another case of someone replying before they have read the whole thread. It happens a lot.

Dave, You might as well give up... This is why i thought this thread should have been deleted at the get-go. Its threads like this that create all the buzz about being ripped off here at GJ and the need for Feedback etc.. In honesty "Nobody" has been ripped off yet and the Buyer and Seller are still in comunication. I would be willing to bet if you would take a survey from the Members who have posted in this thread they are under the assumption that OP is being screwed over.

Not me. I am of the belief that the OP needs to excercise a little more patience.

Do you fellas know what happens when threads are closed or deleted? Bulletins fan out across the net, proclaiming maverick injustice at the hands of powerhungry, fascist mods like myself!

But I think you might be correct. I will keep in contact with the seller for updates.

I would just like to inform everyone that the OP has let me know that he received his package. So, all is well.
