I have been looking for a swivel jaw vise for some time now but they seem to be quite rare, are there any new versions available?

Swivel jaw vises are still listed in Milwaukee Morgan’s catalog, but I can’t find any retailers that list the vises or prices.
Supposedly, Morgan will sell direct, so you might contact them.

The catalog illustration doesn’t look right, but the model numbers match up with Morgan swivel jaw vise model numbers.

I should probably mention that swivel jaw vise prices were usually 50% or more higher than the same vise with a fixed jaw, and I presume might be more costly in comparison nowadays.

Place a “wanted” ad here on GJ. We don’t know your location, but I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody has an extra one that he/she would sell to you. Are you ready to pay a couple hundred bucks?

It’s not a vise, but this might serve your purpose - for my woodwork, I use Jorgenson clamps of various sizes, which allow the jaw faces to be set non-parallel. The wood is quite hard on them, but you can’t hammer on them, of course.

Mine are all USA made - Chicago, specifically. Try to get them used, not the new versions you see in the image, which are Chinese.

Lentuk, I have several vintage swivel jaw vises. I have performed a complete and thorough restoration on a few of them so they are in like new condition, while the others are still in as-purchased condition. If you are interested in seeing them feel free to PM me. I am in upstate NY.

The only two contemporary vises in production with a swivel jaw are made by WoodRiver (overseas) and they are woodworking vises, not machinist’s vises. One is a knock off of an Emmert Patternmaker’s vise with more of a tilt mechanism to swivel the jaw, and the other is favored by Gunmakers and Luthiers and has two swivel jaws that rotate 360 degrees with wooden jaw faces. Hope that helps
