Patching top of concrete wall

Hello All! Got a question for all who know about patching concrete cracks: We have a retaining wall that when the built it the put some kind of grout or concrete on the top of the wall (in a half circle or rounded over). Anyway, there a lots of cracks that I'd like to repair (since we're working on this area anyway). There's even a area where there are so many cracks in the rounded concrete cap that I think it should be chipped all out and another new bunch of concrete laid down to match the rest of the existing cap.

I've been told different things by different people as to what to use to repair the cracks in the rounded cap wall cap. So, what should I use? Should I just mix up regular cement? Or is there a special cement or grout or mortar that is used on the top of walls?

I'm attaching a picture and I hope folks here can see the cap on the wall and offer some suggestions. Right now it's over a 100 degrees outside so If needed, I can get more pictures later today when it cools down. Let me know and thanks in advance to all who offer help, suggestions, and advice

There are several thin application cements but it looks like you need to add color since most are gray out of the package.One thing I would recommend is wetting down the surface first and if possible,do the repairs late afternoon or early evening,you want your repair to cure,not dry out.

Is there any particular product that you would recommend to use to patch/replace the wall cap?

Rapid set mortar mix. Avail at the Depot:

55 lbs. High-Performance, Fast-Setting Mortar Mix

There are several thin application cements but it looks like you need to add color since most are gray out of the package.One thing I would recommend is wetting down the surface first and if possible,do the repairs late afternoon or early evening,you want your repair to cure,not dry out.

I have a good friend who is a stone mason and he always makes a thin "slurry" with a little mortar mix and more than typical amount of water. He brushes that on old stone or concrete before making any repairs says it helps with bonding new concrete/mortar to the old stuff. Obviously clean off the old stuff as best you can to get rid of loose dirt and concrete. I'm no expert but would think you would want to use an "N" type mortar mix with that repair.
