Somebody (cough cough *not me* cough cough) decided that it would be a good idea (it wasn’t) to catch the deck lift/lower handle on the fence as they (again *not me*) mowed the fence line.

So after I messed it up, I just kinda shoved it back together and in the hole IMG_4249.jpeg

I got tired of hitting a bump and it popping out, so I took it apart IMG_4250.jpeg

and hammer/dollied the opening back kinda straight IMG_4251.jpeg

I “could” have done better but I have another complete mower with perfect fenders I’m going to eventually use.

Then finally put the new pieces on. IMG_4252.jpeg

Not too bad for the trusty rusty Ariens. It’s been a good mower, so I don’t mind the little things. I just hope it keeps on keepin on. I kinda like it.

I am thinking I am almost finished with the tractor shine project I use to kill time. I am doing an air pressure check on the tires and I get to the left rear tire and discover that the vavke stem is leaking. I take the tire off the tractor and go to figure out how to lift a 125 pound tractor tire up into the bed of my Dodge Ram. So I used the my lawn tractor lift to get it close. Work kind of janky but did the job and then off to Les Schwab. I get there and explained what I had the guy grabs the tire breaks the bead pops in a new cable stem and says free as I had bought the tires for the tractor 15 years ago. Back home I get the tire down clean the inside and then torqued the 1” wheel spacers then reinstalled the tire IMG_1267.jpegIMG_1266.jpegIMG_1268.jpegIMG_1271.jpeg

So to avoid having "Not Me" do this again, make a 15-20 degree bend towards the seat right ac=fter if gets past the fender..

Decided to MTFU & put the new chain on the ZX11.
WTF was I thinking? There was a moment where I thought about giving away all my tools.

Anywho, tinkering done & dusted, even accomplished the follow up pottering by rounding up, cleaning & putting away the tools.

So that's one more thing off the current maint list.

“Not Me” finally got their Jacks Small Engines order delivered from April!

So “Not Me” will be rebuilding the Zero Turn deck and won’t need to use the Ariens against the fence lol

But that is an amazing idea.

My shop was very busy today in all areas of service. Started out with a couple sets of tires. I’ve gotten a lot better at tires the last few weeks which is good because I don’t have to ask for help anymore.

Then currently in the process of replacing an engine in a 4Runner that a lube tech blew up a few days ago. My first unsupervised engine replacement so kinda excited but I am going to ask for someone to check over it when I’m done and if I get stuck. I don’t know what the book pay is for it as I’m hourly but I’m sure it’s nice. They made him pay our company who had to pay the state of Tennessee to clean up the mess on the highway which is smart they made him pay. He also got two write ups for it because this is the third car he has blown up in a month the first being a Highlander on Interstate 64 in Virginia then the second being a RAV4 on US460 in Virginia as well. His only saving grace on this one was that he done this one on April 2nd and the oil filter finally got loose enough that it leaked and came off because this is the first time the customer is driving the car since then. This morning our head boss got a call from the town of Dandridge Tennessee saying they wanted us to pay for them to clean up the interstate where it blew up. We also covered the rental that we towed to the customer as well as the company tow truck that went to Dandridge to get the car. He was heading to Memphis to visit Graceland with his family on vacation. When he called he was at the I-81- I-40 junction in Dandridge. When vehicle arrived late Monday I pulled off the skid plate and there was the oil filter housing and oil filter. The tech denied working on it and insisted someone has set him up like he tried to claim on the last two while also insisting he has never made a mistake while working on a car. I told him no use trying to lie dude because he needs to realize how lucky he is to still have a job. I have blown up one car in my 5 years of wrenching and I never done it again after that because it’s a you do it once and you learn to never let it happen again type of deal. And mine was because the drain plug came out of a Mitsubishi because obviously I must of left it loose. Just mine wasn’t as catastrophic because mine happened to blow somewhere other than the interstate I think it was in a parking lot.

Sounds just like me, although I have no idea what a 'bagger' is
A bagger is a big thingamajig that goes on the back of the rider mower and bags up the lawn clippings. Then you dump it when it fills up. I run the mulch plate and blades most of the year, then switch to the bagger and high lift blades in the fall for the ground up leaves, which I use for mulch and erosion fill.

It finally happened!

Many years ago (at least 18) I bought a few die grinders from Horrible Fright. I think they were about $7 each. At that price the idea was to just use them until they crapped out & then toss them.

Grabbed one to cut the chain off the ZX11 this morning & noticed it wouldn't spin freely by hand. Squirted some air tool oil down the inlet to see if that improves matters by tomorrow. Will also give it a squirt of Kroil later.

No biggie if it's terminally buggered though.

My last HF cheapies STB last summer and fall. I was trying to do without for several months, but it wasn't working out too well. I finally broke down and bought a nicer HF composite bodied one. Spins faster than the cheaper ones. Has more oomph, too. I need to spring for a second one, cause it never fails that I need two different profiles at the same time.

He should have got the bums rush the FIRST time it happened. It's now more than obvious that the clueless imbecile is incapable of learning from his mistakes.
Drop by the shop & weld his toolbox shut.

My garage, I feel, doesn't have enough electrical outlets (garage was built with 5 total along 3 walls @ 15 amps)...
For the last several weeks I've slowly been surface mounting electrical boxes on the 3 walls with 3/4" conduit...
Each box has 2 x 20 amp receptacles.... Each box feeds from two seperate circuits.... The first box on each circuit has a GFCI, protecting all the outlets down the line...
All the wiring is 14 gauge.. I just added 48 to the 5 originals... Can never have too many outlets in the garage...

I went surface mount in my garage about 35 years ago. full sub-panel, both 120 and 220 V circuits as I like to run motors on 220 where possible., and one run was for my 220 welders to run off of.

I also put a couple of outlets above where the middle of the "race car space" was so I had overhead power on either side of the car. Twist lock at the box, and about 2 ft of cord and another box to plug into. (very short extension cords...)

Even without the race car I still use those a lot. One is easy reach to the bench and vise -Its easier to reach up and plug in that over the bench, (2 outlets on the wall)

I used 12 gauge throughout except for the welder circuit, I think 8 gauge there? 1" conduit... (its been a long time...)

Yep - surface mount here as well. 100A main panel in the back (woodshop) with a 70A subpanel in the front of the garage for the compressor, welder and receptacles in the front (car storage / repair). Everything in EMT, as per code here.

The only exception to surface mount is the run to the table saw - I put 3/4” in the slab as the saw is on a 30A - 230 line. I built the garage in 1990 or so.

I pissed about with it & got it working, but it doesn't feel happy. Was just looking at the HF composite jobbies on line, probably grab 1 or 2 on the next visit ($17.97 on clearance)

95% done with making a zero clearance insert for my table saw. Was going to make the last cut to finish it, but my neighbor came home and was looking tired. He's a teacher, last day of school, and was going to have a nap. I figured I can make the last cut tomorrow.

Finishing the tune-up on the ‘62 Vette. Timing now set at about 34-36 degrees BTDC @ 3K RPM. Need to drive it more to see if the engine likes this advance setting. Will take that job anytime! After a drive or two and if the advance is acceptable, will reinstall all of the SS shielding over the ignition system. A pain to do, but keeping it original as best I can.

Although my local store says those are in stock, I've never seen them, so I broke down and bought the Chief one. Still a third of the cost of my first die grinder, with much cheaper money.

I bought a lamp assembly for the head of the lamp I've been working on, it is a little bigger than I thought but I am going to keep it. This one allows some adjustment to the spread of the light, I thought that would be helpful as I want to use this as a desk lamp. I've got a cord with an on-off dimmer switch on it's way, I am going to figure out some pads for the bottom of it so I don't scratch what ever it rests on.

Several(many) years ago a buddy gave me an old beat up Savage 99 he didn't want anymore. I've had it up on the wall above the bar and have taken it out to the range a few times.
It's a fun shooter and pretty darn accurate for open sights.
Today I pulled it down and spent the morning stripping and sanding it.
Steamed out a couple good dents and sanded it all the way to 1200 before applying English Chestnut stain.
Now to begin the coats of oil....20240606_101532.jpg20240606_135053.jpg20240606_140947.jpg

Well, finally got a much needed fan shroud for the Hot Rod Lincoln.

Been eyeballin it on the fleabay for a while. Just didn’t want to spend $200 on a damn plastic shroud lmao.

I was hoping to JB Weld the old one IMG_4270.jpeg

But realized that my grampa had already done a repair on the bottomIMG_4271.jpeg

And there was a missing piece where the bolt head attaches.IMG_4272.jpeg

So, the decision was made. New to me shroud

Nicest part of the car!IMG_4274.jpeg

Then looked over and the power steering pump is still leaking. So it wasn’t the hoses. Probably the seal between the reservoir and pump. Dangit.
