Had a nice lunch yesterday with friends. Came back to the car and found that some Pterodactyl crapped on the hood and the car.

This morning I washed the car. Got it off but it had done damage to the finish on the hood. i had to use rubbing compound to get it to the point that it looked OK. I can still see a faint image of the damage.

Avoid my dealership because of the labor rate lol but other than that besides chain shop quick lubes I can’t think of anywhere else.
It was kind of a joke, because I think I've only ever had a dealer work on one of my vehicles. That was about a year ago when Shelor replaced the frame on my beat-to-**** Tundra for free. But I don't really want to go to a place that has to replace that many engines.

Sadly, you can't polish the paint back on.

Added a shelf over the Dayton tool box using a pair of cheap dollar store brackets and 3/4" plywood. Trying not to block the Flying 'M' Cycles signage. Went with black as but not sure if I should have gone with the same red as the sign frame.

In any case, its going to hold some parts and trophies and I'm going to hang a vintage motorcycle racing poster on the wall behind it. 1717800685463.jpeg1717800660504.jpeg
Non-matching black is the right choice if you are going for the authentic working shop vibe. Everything matching and coordinating is for BMW boutique showrooms.

Well we might be talking about the same place then haha 😆. Those frames are junk man. We had one collapse on the lift but luckily it was close enough to the ground that it didn’t do any other damage and we were replacing the frame either way.

I was honestly shocked when they casually told me they would replace the frame on the beat-to-**** fugly 2001 Tundra with 260K because there was one rust hole the size of my little fingernail in a place that I didn't care about. And I forgot to mention that they also replaced the inverter controller on my quarter-million mile 2006 Highlander Hybrid in two days. They actually did very well on both of those, but I don't think I'll have them do any oil changes.

Haha I understand. I think I remember your truck. Is it maroon Tundra or white or a different one? We have done so many of those but I remember one not being too bad. We had two of the best techs doing those frames they are all gone now though.

That funky silver beige smoke color with evaporating clear coat and mildew, and the right front bumper crunched in. Let's see, Adam and someone?

It did come out with a chassis groan that it didn't have before, probably a fastener that isn't quite clamping like it should. I didn't want to be the guy who brought it back saying "It didn't do that before" especially since I drive it 8 miles round trip every few weeks to haul trash.

I had hundreds of crows **** my deep teal pickup truck almost totally white. After a bath, you could see the burnt outlines of each individual bomb in the clearcoat. It looked like ripply water. Next weekend I helped as many of them as I could meet their maker.

I'm not fond of the $10 grinders. They don't live long around me.
I know you aren't talking about electric 4" mini grinders, but I have a bunch of them I got for 5-10 bucks each at yard sales and the only one that has croaked is the one Chicom one (likely HF) the others grind on... -A couple have needed grese in the gears but that's it... (B&D, Makita, Bosch, DEwalt, Metabo, Ryobi, Milwaukee.. 12 all told - I'm a believer in one wheel, one grinder, and switch grinders not "wheels" and now I have enough for a few at the main vise and the rest at the welding/fab bench)
Next weekend I helped as many of them as I could meet their maker.
See, thats the way Hitchcock's "The Birds" should have ended!

I'm surprised you decimated them so well; Crows are smart and will move on... In my last rented home, I used to pop them of a big tall tree top (I got tired of their noise), using a .22 rifle and CB caps (almost silent) and this was in the middle of the city. I body shot them and they would fly away when hit (CB's are very accurate, and I had this one zeroed for range, so no misses that might land somewhere bad.) Two houses on the same property and I could not bee seen from my "firing position" by neighbors. I don't know if I was killing them as their feathers are decent armor to something as light as a CB cap, but if they died they were far away. It didn't take them long to move a half dozen houses away or more...

Just treat that groan as "audio diagnostics" and if it changes, start looking for the issue...

I would if I could get someone else to pay me to work on my own POS truck. Well, if I could get them to pay me *enough*.

I have hearing aids now that might let me track it down if I got suitably motivated.

My hearing aids took almost all directionality out of my hearing. It can be squeaking right in front of me, or 20 feet away, and I won't know. Many times I'll take them out to track down a noise. At least then I'll have to be damn close to hear it.

Started cooking dinner last night, and the oven wouldn’t heat up. That screwed my dinner plans, but I did get to spend the evening disassembling the oven to find the igniter and prove that it was bad (open).

IMG_4858.jpeg

Bought a new igniter this morning, and since I already had the stove pulled out and partially disassembled, I spe t most of the rest of the day cleaning it. Got the oven cleaned, got all of the spatters and old burnt on whatever cleaned off. Could not get the burner tops and grates clean, so took them out to the garage and attacked them with some roloc disks on an air grinder.

There is still some discoloration, but I got them clean.

I am very fortunate in having inherited my late mother in laws high end hearing aids that she wore like twice before she passed. My insurance paid for one audiologist visit, and he programmed them well enough that while wearing them I can now once again hear and somewhat locate the direction of annoying noises for diagnostic purposes.

But now that I don't need to do that for a living, I'm not much inclined to wear them.

Yes. The little 4.5 inch angle grinders. HF puts the shittiest one on sale for about $10 fairly often. IMNSHO they're effing gutless. You need to stand there forever, pressing lightly. I like ones you can lean into a bit, driving them hard. Thus I shell out for yellow ones. Usually new or refurbished, cause yard sales n flea markets around here want near new prices for **** they backed over with a dump truck. This red HF horror is an experiment. It's got enough guts that you can't stall it with your finger, so it's going to sand disk duty, where I don't drive them near as hard as solid wheel duty.

I envy you your herd. I just don't have the room for that many. It's a very compact shop. Getting a third has overwhelmed my grinder storage, and will require me to rethink things a bit.

Shooting them is for amateurs. Dealing with thousands requires surer methods. Ever listen to Tom Lehrer?

I'm planing to make a right angle version of this (the grinders right angle, not the rack) hanging off the back of my "welding bench" (a Snap-on KR- 300 Rolla-Bench with a steel plate on top) after I get it un-buried - Right angle so the handles don't space them out so much... with some space for the consumable wheels and sanding/flap disks.and the next new braided cup wire wheel

I did not do much today int he garage just final wipes of the tractor after the pawn shop run as the home health aide watched the wife today so I had some personal time. Last Monday my wife and I were down in a neighboring community at an asian market for my wife's asian foods. I sat in the parking lot as our son took her in the store. In the distance I heard a loud bang then lots of sirens but thought nothing of it. My son and wife come out of the store and we were planning to go to the pawn shop 2 blocks away. As we rolled up to the pawn shop the plans were changed as the loud bang came from in front of the pawn shop.

Seems an older Ford 3/4 ton was turning left with a left turn light and a rice car decided that 80 MPH he was going blow the red light in the opposite direction. The rice car hit so hard it tore the rear axle out of the pickup. The rear axle then was launched out of the truck into the pawn shop windows. The life saving thing was the pawn shop was not busy and no one was near the windows. The steel bars did bend inside the pawn shop but did not break. What is even more surprising today talking to the pawn shop owner was the fact everyone including the idiot kid were not seriously injured and the Ford truck driver had a cut lip and bruises.

When I got home today I finished wiping down the tractor and I am now ready for the weekend to take it and get it all dirty again. :devilish:IMG_1328.jpegIMG_1330.jpegIMG_1331.jpegIMG_1337.jpeg

I had *something* **** on my white truck last week that had evidently eaten something curry/tumeric related. I thought it was going to discolor the paint to a dirty orangey brown. Somehow it was all on top of the left side rear dually fender. Luckily it was still fresh when I spotted it & there was a roll of Scott towels in the truck.
