My rescue Craftsman 10 drawer is slowly shaping up after it was spray painted black. Just painting the drawers Craftsman red & bringing back the aluminum drawer pulls is a night & day difference. I'm cleaning up the Craftsman logo next. I'm still deciding if I'm going to strip it or paint it. I'm hesitant to paint it because I necessarily don't want it to look new. I prefer it to look its age.

I found some "hammered steel" paint in my arsenal, so I went ahead & painted it. I had just enough to cover it. I'll have to get more to touch up a few spots. I gave the guy $40 for this toolbox & I'll have to get another can of paint for touch up, so I'll have about $50 in this box. I'm happy with it. It will look nice next to my other one. I found the original manual that came with this box underneath the bottom drawer. It was all chewed up, but you could still see some of the pictures. I think my paint comes pretty close to its original color. This was a fun project rescuing this box from being spray painted black. Below is the before & after pics.

Nice job Ben! that model was my first "real" tool box. A buddy now has it after I replaced with Kennedy mid and top that was the equivalent, but much easier to load and unload into the truck for going to the race track.

Thanks guys. After I found my first one like this I've been looking for another one. I have a lot of toolboxes, but this is one of my favorites.

I owned that box.
It was my first Mac combo and I bought her new in 88 as well.
Unfortunately, that one was stolen out of a storage in 91, but has since been replaced with her non anniversary twin.

The tray was on the opposite side of the sale. I paid about what those old Coleman Silklite mantles are worth.

It came with a few bonuses:

21" L X 8" H (at the low point) X 9 1/2" W. Tray has two "oil can" holes (How do those work? Wouldn't the oil just drip out?).

I think there's a standard-size GMTK box at the same sale, and I know where the tray for it is. I don't need it, but if anyone who does is headed out to NE Oregon this summer, I can grab it for next to nothing (like I paid for this one) and hang on to it. For that matter, I don't need this one....

The oiler (with a 4” spout) sits in the bottom of the box and the spout sticks out through the hole in the top tray.IMG_2333.pngIMG_2334.png

Picked up this Dayton marked box in the south side of Phoenix on Monday. Not too bad of shape for a 39 year old box. FBM ad pic and after quick clean up. Design features and construction looks very similar to MAC and Proto boxes I have from about the same era. I will compare them when I get home later this week.

That looks nice, 12vx2. I wonder if it was made by Waterloo. I love the fact that it has so many drawers - I would buy one of those in a heartbeat - it's great for organizing things!

drawers for locking (into the vertical cam rail)? Thanks!

Here is a couple shots of a 1935-1946 era Snap-On K22. Not mine but of a relative's who lives in the Gaspe' area of eastern Canada where we are currently visiting. He says he got this used when he was a teenager and has had it for about 45 years. Paint is pretty bad and you can see the original Grayish color in the back and under the drawers which have no slides so they can come out completely. The cool part is that he uses as the house box daily not hidden away.

Here is a Craftsman Heritage eight drawer roller I bought at a swap meet this weekend. The PO was using it to store his valve grinder accessories with the grinder setting on top. The box was pretty well loaded with associated tools and parts which I have a place for. It's in pretty good shape and will take the place of my three drawer roller. I spent a couple hours emptying it out and degreasing. Always a fine time cleaning out an old tool box and finding some good things. Ed.

Reattached the lid to the cornwell box and did a little rust removal. I think this poor guy was outdoors for awhile.
