Craftsman 10" Table saw, 137.248830

So I picked up one of these for free from an old guy.. uit's a long story but he basically got it for a replacement motor. So his old motor, the one on this unit needs the bearing kit.

Aside from that it's immaculate. All the parts are here, nothings broke or missing.

Just wanted to ask opinions really. Rebuilding the motor won't be a problem. Gotta say I'm not a gigantic fan of the aluminum surface but.. that's only because I'm old and I like my tools heavy.

Opinions about what? Keeping something useful out of the boneyard or the landfill? If that's the question, I vote, "Yes." If you don't want it after it's been rehabilitated, I'm sure you can find somebody to give it to.

Oh no.. I mean yeah I’m all for repairing and reusing. I just meant opinions on the saw. With so many bearing kits out there, the motors obviously a weak point

If you can repair it cheap enough, go for it then decide if it does what you want. If not, sell it. Keep in mind it is probably a $100 saw running.

I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of it. You will not be ripping 2" oak with it, but if you build birdhouses out of 1" pine it will probably be fine.

Seriously, all we know is that it is a CM table saw. Most of us don't know the numbers off the top of our head. Overall, those were halfway decent saws, the fence was usually the weakest point, but at least as good as the newer stuff sold today for cheap at HD/Lowes.

137 is made by Rexon, a highly regarded name in table saws, right?

I would not put any time or effort into it, except maybe scavenge parts off it before taking it in for recycling, unless it really floats your boat.

I failed in that regard.. it seems sometimes model numbers are known, some times not. Ill get one on here.

I can't get out to the shop yet but this is the exact unit. Granted, it's a little on the light side.. weight-wise. The fence clamps pretty strong, all the adjustments work and the blade guards intact. There's a plastic 'cup' of sorts in the motor housing near the blade end of the shaft that apparently melts pretty easy if that front bearing gets hot. The motor will come apart this weekend to verify, but that and the increment sticker is peeling at one end. I gotta figure out a way to protect that.. and replace the motor bearings and it's 100%.
