Haha, its all fun and games until it happens. I'm about ready to start up another thread to discuss hydraulic jack options for the stroller when the axle needs repair. Not sure if a standard 1.5 ton bottle jack will be enough, or if I should just spring for a 2 ton low pro floor jack.
Quickjacks FTW!

Honestly, when was the last time you opened a bottle, especially on vacation?

Beer mostly comes in cans, or from a tap.
Just about every day.
I’m a big fan of microbrew IPA’s, stouts, lagers, etc. Most of those come in bottles. Even mass merchandised brands like Modelo and many others also come in bottles. Many times at friends houses when I grab a bottled beer out of a cooler or fridge, I just open it with my Leatherman Micra. It’s faster and easier than looking around for their bottle opener. On vacation, I often pick up a six pack of local microbrew something or other and bring it back to our motel room refrigerator. Later I drink one or two and open them with my Leatherman Micra.

I bet I’m not the only guy who does this.

I took my leatherman wave with bit set
and a streamlight 1L

Have you ever actually used the bits?
I have a Wave, MUT and the bits set. I've had them for probably 10+ years and never used the bits with either of them.

Just curious if and how they actually work.

Local microbrews are canned, on tap, or growlers.

Modello or other corporate beers are bottles, I agree.

I’m down to maybe three beers per year, anyway, and it’s always tap beer.

I asked my wife if she uses a can opener for anything. She came up with the two piece lids on home made jam and applesauce. We rarely take them on vacation.

Not a whole lot, more of just in case I guess. I have used them to tighten my buddies scope rings.

I keep a tool roll or small tool box in each vehicle so those are with us whenever we drive somewhere. I carry a multi tool in my shaving bag as well as a precision screw driver set. Wife, daughter and I wear glasses and sometimes need to tighten a screw on the frames.

4 or 5 ? years ago, on a visit to Disney, going through security, I took out my keys and knife. The 2 security guys almost had strokes. It was a folding knife with a ~3" blade. I didn't think anything of having it as at home, people carry knives and open carry guns. They let me keep it, but said if I got caught with it, they would swear I didn't have it when I went through their gate and told me at least 10 times I absolutely had to keep it concealed in my pocket.

I’m headed to Disney World with my family soon, and started contemplating tools needed for travel.

What does everyone travel with if anything? Small multibit screwdriver set, small crescent wrench, flashlight?

This may turn into more of an EDC discussion, which is fine.

Thanks for any input.
Family at Disneyworld? A fat wallet is all you're gonna need. Do you plan on fixing the roller coasters there?
Bottle opener?? Is there ANY dedicated beer drinker out there that hasn't at least half a dozen improvised methods for opening a bottle?

I can't remember if it was a Gerber or a Leatherman supertool, but I had a bit set that I used as an industrial firefighter to sometimes open up alarm panels during testing of them and it worked fine for that instead of carrying a bag of tools around. One of those tools I carried on my duty belt the other one lived in my turnout gear.

Tools for a vacation? I'm just showing up. If anything breaks on vacation at wherever we're staying I'm not fixing it. With what places cost to rent they can send someone.

I keep a small Craftsman 1/4 drive kit in our gloveboxes now. There's a Swiss Army knife in my wife's car and a small multi-tool on my car's keychain.

For Disneyworld the only tools you need are refillable water bottles and a cooler bag with frozen food defrosting for the kids.

A small flashlight ain't a bad idea, wherever you wander. Even a wee keychain LED can be quite useful. I usually have a rechargeable pen light in my computer bag.

I keep a small bag with screwdrivers, pliers, work gloves, 2 flashlights (plus I carry one on me usually that I know is charged up), roll of duct tape, some zip ties, and a lighter. I check that I have the spare tire that works and the jack/lugnut tool thing. Outside of that I have insurance/AAA

2 out of 3 of my adult children have have an opener on their keyring. The one that drives Teslas is looking for one that attaches to his cell phone case.

I bought one of these to take on a plane. It's less than 7" fully assembled, so it complies. I didn't want to spend much in case it got confiscated. I think I paid around $6 at the time.

I fly with this one all the time, never even had my laptop bag opened to look at it. The small barrel isn't good for anything requiring much torque, but it fits in a pen holder next to a streamlight stylus pro, a sharpie and a pen

When I travel, I usually bring my Leatherman Skeletool. Checked it in the luggage of course, but usually keep it on me most of the time abroad unless I'm going somewhere it's not permitted. Generally travel in the winter, so it lives in my jacket. We like to indulge in long walks in the countryside when we're over there, and I'd rather have and not need.

Sounds like an application for a multitool to me. Caveat that a knife blade will limit where you can take it.

ARC_FANNED_FRONT.jpg

I know some people hate multitools as inherently less useful than dedicated tools - but where they excel is where you don't expect to do work but it might crop up. Then you want as many tools as you can reasonably carry so you can get the job done, even if it's awkward.

There's an potentially apocryphal story that Tim Leatherman invented the Leatherman Tread after going to Disneyland and being unable to take a multitool. That tool in particular though is even more awkward to use than any other multitool - but it CAN do things.

Especially for travel, if you're carrying actual tools, I'd pick the cobra pliers XS or the 125mm pliers wrench (XS may be a bit TOO small for the pliers wrench) over a small crescent wrench, but the adjustable wrench is a lot more affordable.

If you want a knife, consider buying a utility-blade knife so you can travel without a blade and just grab one from a hardware store when you arrive. The Screwpop is extremely light and useful.

A multibit screwdriver is nice to have just in case too - but which one depends largely on whether you actually plan to carry it. I really like the Picquic "The Pic", but I don't know if you can get it in the USA yet. It's light, pocketable, cheap and durable. More info here.

I love the idea of The Pic, however the bits stored in the handle will get a little wiggly in there over time. High torque applications can jam the bit in the driver as well. I still carry one at work though.

Having travelled quite a bit around the US, I used to carry a shitload of tools. Other than a flashlight and a Swiss Army knife, I have used none of it on weekend trips. Cross country trips, rental places, towing stuff, of course you want more.

That doesn’t seem likely… but I’ll text your wife, have her check the size of the fasteners on the stroller, and then post in this thread to let you know what tools you will need if the stroller breaks down.
It’s not common, but while we were on vacation in San Antonio, a family parked near us had an issue with the stroller wheels being loose, (why?who knows) but I had my road kit in my trunk and we got it tightened up and we all went about our day and enjoyed the zoo, while things might not be likely or common; **** happens, I

I carry one of these:

The bits are useful "in a bind" but don't work in every case.

Unfortunately, I'm on #3 right now because I keep leaving it in my backpack and TSA keeps taking 'em. Last time I put it in my spouse's carry on (I just forgot) and she wasn't very happy about being busted at security....

When we went to Disney, we brought a small multitool and a tiny flashlight — ended up handy for stroller fixes and finding stuff in the dark. Nothing too heavy, just little things that save stress.

Felt kind of like having those thoughtful touches in wedding packages Singapore, where small extras make a big difference and everything just works smoothly.

When I was younger, I always carried a BIC lighter. It is just as easy to open a bottle of beer with a BIC lighter as it is with a bottle opener.

When I used to travel a lot, especially if I had the same room multiple days I would bring a small pair of channel locks to remove the shower head to “adjust “ the flow restricter.

I don't carry any tools on my person while on vacation. I will load a small road trip go-bag of tools in the vehicle though, and that usually consist of a portable wrench and socket set, multiple screw drivers, a wrench roll, tire patch kit, m12 compressor, and an m12 3/8 stubby impact.

My tool kit is for removing bench vises I might happen to discover for sale while traveling.🤣

One tool I have needed on vacation was an eyeglass screwdriver. A pivot screw on my sunglasses worked loose, and I had no good way to tighten it. I used my fingernail to thread it in a bit, and then constantly checked it until I got home.

A small flashlight is another thing I carry.

Are you driving or flying.... Went went to Hawaii for our honeymoon finally and I only brought a pocket flashlight. Normally I have an EDC Knife and pen. We had carry on luggage.

Around the same time we went local trips and I carry a backpack with a few things and my knife of course. Duct Tape, lighters, gloves, small hand tools. Extra water etc.

Keep a bag of tools, pliers, tire pump in the car.

But have some lotion and hand wipes for touristy trips.
