Here is another one of those bittersweet acquisition stories. This time it wasn't a friend of mine, but a friend of a friend contacted his organization about clearing out his shop. He donated the entire contents to the organization, and they took everything they wanted, and asked my buddy to get it cleared out. He contacted a bunch of us that have very diverse tools skills and interests, and the ability to ID most anything, to help with the cleanout, set it up for a garage sale.
So we went thru, cleaned it out to almost the walls, cleaned up a bit and set things up for a sort of garage sale. The five of us took our things of varying interests but left behind a lot. As we were putting the last pieces back, we discussed how 15 years ago, the stuff we had taken would have been drastically different. The donor came thru as we were about 2/3 back into the space, and was very appreciative of what was gone, and that it was going to good homes. My buddy took a huge load to Urban Ore, where they helped him unload it for free. There were some very large chunks of metal, including steel up to 4" rounds, some large hex pieces, large chunks of steel etc, but none of the blacksmiths or machinists needed it, so they were not terribly interested. They took a few pieces of interest (Delrin rounds for the machinist), and other tooling and things.
Here is my haul, in three pictures.
Left - Right, sorta: cans of rivets, bucket of screws, divided container of electrical bits. 5 interesting sockets, Foley knob, buffer wheel, probably trashed tho. Bit of O1 drill rod, weird whatzit (posted already) reamer, punches, exhaust pipe cutter, another Patent End Cutter, paint pen, bunch of 8 point, , pin and oddball wrenches, DI box with fractional drill bits, huge auger, Millers Falls bevel gauge, pad saw handle? mini arbor press, Hargrave and machinist clamps, bucket of adjustable wrench knurls, 9x12 35# surface plate, 2x brass hex containers, large SS washers and shims?, USMC shoe stretcher, tube brush (for cleaning sockets) small adze, bushings. on the cover for the surface plate is a 6" and 18" Diamond adjustable, but just realized the jaw on the 18" is broken, heartbreaking. Also a Makita 18v drill with a 1.5 aH battery and charger. Not present for the picture was a 12" vixen file holder, looking like a half round file, but with a method to attach the vixen to it.
Contents of a Duplex box, mostly electrical stuff, including a wiggy , Utica needle nose, Bell systems stripper and lots of fine ****.
And finally, a box of screws, most in boxes, including as small as 2-56, 4-40, and others. Also included is brass and round head iron screws in the round tin. These were in a drawer in a huge divider, and I didn't want to steal one drawer from it. Lower left is a small unmarked oiler, back is two large pieces of copper pipe destined for pipe jaw covers. The square tin and bag to its right are all wingnuts some vintage, which will get sorted out for later. Top left is a tin of hand made nails, not sure if commercial, or practice for the donor.
So, for those of you in the SF Bay east bay region, there might be a nice garage / shop clean out sale in the Berkeley area, next weekend, but expect a late start, and early end, and prices expected to be "move it" pricing. I will not be attending, but will pass along any info I get.
