Had a good haul yesterday at a local online auction.
...
And a few other things I am guessing are machinist related.

No experience with the amps but I did have the PAT4 in the early 70's. Bought the kit and a friend built it, nice unit. Hope you can find a knob for it.

Found the knob on ebay. There's quite a community surrounding Dynaco gear so it seems most parts or alternatives or complete upgrade kits are available. Maybe sell the 120w amp to fund the parts and gear I'm going to need to get the PAT4 and ST80 going. Though, just saying this gives me some trepidation, given my complete knowledge of electronics comes from building a middle school strobe light kit.

Had a phone call from a distant inlaw type relative whom my niece told I bought tools.
I was hesitant because family + money can get tricky, but agreed to take a look.
Everything had been in the basement for 15 years, so there were a lot of things I passed on due to condition.
I did buy this Craftsman box & contents for $250.
P1010001.JPG

Inside were some air tools & whatnot that will be flea market fodder
Also SK Wayne Breaker 1/2 & 3/8 drive stuff:
P1010004.JPG

What had me the most excited until today when I looked a little closer, was a Craftsman 3/4 set that looks unused, all sockets still in original individual boxes. Unfortunately a closer look & the set is Taiwan
P1010005.JPGP1010006.JPG

You might recall 2 weeks ago I posted a photo of my 4-drawer Craftsman boxes that tumbled & dumped?
I kept the bottom box & use it and it's neighbor to stack the 4-drawer boxes on.
Holds lots of building sets, don't use it often & might use it someday stuff

P1010009.JPG

And finally, from this lot, was going to put this goober out on my dollar table this weekend, but thought I should look it up on Ebay
I've never run into one before:
P1010011.JPG

Glad I looked, this one makes up for the Taiwan 3/4 disappointment.
Link to similar on ebay:

Edit to add, sorry the link doesn't work.
If you are interested look up sold items Craftsman 47633

The far left has point like an awl that pushes out when back pushed in. Hole guage may be right.
Thanks on the info about the wiggler.
The 2nd from the left is marked Horton (or Norton) and has what look like tiny teeth on the face.
The 3rd is marked abrasive and has a couple of similar teeth on it

Last one sold for $40.00 + $8.44 shipping. A month prior another one sold for $135 including shipping. There are several listed on ebay right now for sale, most of them with wishful asking prices.

Is there any patent date or patent number on that unit?

Does the face the awl pushes out from have a bevel that might match a screw countersink? If so, might be a center marker for hinge anchoring hole drilling. Align, tap w hammer, drill into mark.

Pat. No. 3,284,833
There are 2 varieties that I can find.
One has the coil spring on both ends, with one side having the spring reversed to clean the outside of the post.
Mine has on one side the 3 cutter blades that are held in place with the black "shinkwrap" for cleaning the post.P1010001.JPG

Today’s Estate sale finds, $19 for everything. They were using the screwdriver to take a door down so they could get a refrigerator out of the house. I joking asked him if it was also for sale. I knew the guy doing the sale and he said for you $1. So I of course had to get it.

I do apologize if the vintage decor isn’t aloud in pics here. If so please tell me so I know for next time, thanks!

Au contraire, mon ami!

My mom gave me that same clock radio when I was about 11 years old. Used to wake me up every morning for school with Chuck Berry singing "Ridin' along in my automobile" on KJR AM every morning.

The ashtray is gloriously hideous - a fine and rare example of the worst of the 1950s. My cup runneth over!

And yes... my baby sister and I drank hot chocolate out of those same Santa Claus cups!

Very cool stories! I have so many memories of going to garage sales and picking up mcm stuff or tools or car parts with my parents. Just curious is there a thread for mcm or vintage decor? Or something along those lines?

I got wind of a rather odd sale today. Apparently, there had been a farm auction a few weeks ago, and most of the big ag stuff sold, but there was a ton of smalls left over. And by ton I mean about 50-75 pallets of stuff. But, the sale was only from 7am to noon today. An odd day, but, I just had time before an appointment, so...
53881768969_dabc3c5137_b.jpg
I picked up a Midget railroad lantern, Bell System kick meter, Marson rivet set, Plomb and Proto puller arms, and a vintage C-clamp. I am going to have to keep an eye out for when the old couple run this sale again, as I just barely scratched the surface of what was there. In any case, all of that cost me $20, and after words I swung by the Restore and found a #20 Hurwood driver for a buck.

@Wchester04 - you can probably find instructions on how to build a still on this website.

this link may be of use to you

this one is handy too

Here is the "Vintage Automotive Paraphernalia" thread

errr... you're going to have to help me out on "mcm" - Google tells me it's "man crush Monday".
Thank you for the links, I’ll have to take a look though them. And mcm is short for mid century modern. It refers to an era of design from the end of World War ll up into the 70’s

As 4C mentioned, there's no issue posting most things you can acquire non-retail. As a personal request, could you find a monochromatic background for your photos--or at least one not so vibrantly high-contrast? To my eyes, your items get lost in the clutter. I thought that flat glass flask had an orange & white fake flower sticking out of it.

RE: "mcm" - I have never heard that term before, and if you Google "mcm" that's not what you find, unfortunately.

I thought that flat glass flask had an orange & white fake flower sticking out of it.
I thought it was a flat thing like a soap dish!

Okay... this is part 2 of the deal I did last night, because I was short and had to go to the bank for more money today, so....
bars 072524.jpg
8 bars, two 10-inch circular saw blades, one 8-inch Dado set
$50 ÷ 8 = $6.25 per bar, the saw blades were a bonus.
Same guy I got the Craftsman top box from last night. He mentioned he had "a big box full of real old stuff" and he'd shoot me a photo.
These will most likely all go to two buddies of mine, who are shy bars. I'm not a wood worker - the blades are going to another buddy.

That gizmo third from bottom with the "forked" end - I've seen that here before. What is that thing? Valve lifter tool? :headscrat

And something about taking pictures of stuff on your lap. With shorts on...?

Yah, those pics aren't generally welcome on the thread. A *small* few tend to show up in the dog days, but usually get some negative reviews, and the object of the pic is often overlooked due to the "background."

what'll you offer?
That is a very neat lamp, my parents have a similar one buts it’s white. I will pass though, I’m not big it having little figures on my decor. But you could probably get anywhere from $25 to $125 if you found the right buyer.

Also I’m only 20 and try to buy older stuff because that’s what my parents had and they liked it because that’s what their parents had.

Ordinarily, I ignore the backgrounds. But I'll agree, that one is rough on the eyes, trying to find the edges of some of those objects!

I always find it amusing when someone unknowingly breaks that "rule." Seems like some people view that as a race to see who can protest first!

Having said that, from the stories I've heard, I'm glad I wasn't around when it was really a problem...

I'm always amused at the pics that include bare toe sandals or even bare feet - in the shop! Safety first folks!

MCM huh? this is a thing now? as in "collectible"? how about stuff even uglier than that ashtray? what'll you offer?

Yea the last few years MCM was shortened for a lot of things - like we actually need more 3 letter acronyms...

I have some similar MCM/imports items, both decoration and functional from my mom's estate. I've been told by my daughters how "insensitive" those are. They don't seem to get that these were made BY those depicted.

Totally fine to post the vintage decor stuff here as long as you found it at a garage sale! I would intermittently post some last year along with tools that I picked up at sales. Weirdest thing I found/posted last year was Christmas candles made by the oil company socony vacuum. So you are in good company 😉👍. Many of us who like vintage tools also like other vintage items so you are in good company

Estate sale ($40): 2 - B&W DM 302 bookshelf speakers; 3 - M&K K-5 8 ohm satellite speakers.
Looks like I'm having a run of stereo equipment. Oddly enough I bought a set of the B&W DM 302's back when I was single and had the $ for the "finer" things in life.

^ yah.. let's not be doing that sort of thing... somebody's kids might be watching.

Estate sale ($22): Santa's Best Frosty the Snowman (MCM).

MCM is valuable gear. Large blow molds are one area where people are certainly shelling out more than you'd think.

From"Ai":

MCM can have multiple meanings, including:
  • Man Crush Monday: A social media trend where people post pictures and express affection for attractive men on Mondays
  • Marketing Content Management: A category of applications that help businesses respond to changing circumstances by using marketing content across multiple channels
  • Multi-Chip Module: An integrated circuit package that contains two or more interconnected chips
  • Thousands of circular mils: An old measurement of wire gauge, where 1 MCM is equal to 1 kcmil or 0.5067 square millimeters
  • Micro Computer Machines: An early manufacturer of microcomputers, such as the MCM/70
  • Microsoft Certified Master: A certification
  • Mobile content management: Software that can store and deliver content to mobile devices
  • Multi Carrier Modulation: A technology
  • Modern Creation München: A luxury fashion brand founded in 1976 in Munich, Germany by Michael Cromer. The brand's name is an initialism of "Michael Cromer Munich". The MCM logo is a hand-drawn laurel wreath with a ribbon in the center, which is a tribute to King Ludwig I and his love of neoclassicism. The logo is also used in the brand's signature Cognac Visetos material, which is diamond-shaped and inspired by the lozenges on the Bavarian flag

Something I've been looking for for a while:
Good Find. I prefer the wader stance benches with the foldable legs but stil a good find
Now I need to buy/make some "dogs" for it..
Lots out there both B&D and aftermarket:

FYI those are 20mm holes IIR - the Workmate thread has lots of info.

plastic bench dogs on ebay start at about $12 bucks for a bag of four

gah... outlaw beat me to it, sorry.
I beat you both to it! Already ordered before Outlaw posted. I also ordered four 1 1/4" crutch tips for the missing leg tips--half the price of the "proper" ones.

This will be an excellent addition to the brewery shop.

I had about a half-dozen stops planned for today, Restores and thrift stores and the usual garage and estate sales, but I only ended up finding two things worth picking up.
53882540277_30a01b8ec7_b.jpg
About half way through the day, I found this, a leather tool satchel just like the one I used when I was doing inspections of commercial AC units. Strong as all get out, keeps everything right were you can see it, holds enough, but not too much, I could go on. These things aren't cheap though, and last time I looked Ideal had them for right around $300. I got it for $10.

But my first stop was where I found this:
53883824200_2de2af6082_b.jpg

53883826775_421fe9963a_b.jpg
A Montgomery Wards branded Logan 820(I think). It is missing the chuck (I have an extra anyway) the gear train from the headstock to the leadscrew, and the compound rest assembly, along with who knows what else. But, it has the legs, and the drip tray. And for $50 I think I am pretty far ahead. I will probably restore and then replace my South Bend 9b. So, not a bad day.
