If the weather holds out, I should finish the painting on my house tonight.

I started the project in late April and not including June*, it’s consumed every weekend and just about every available evening since. The house is T1-11 plywood sided. I stripped it to bare wood (using a Porter-Cable 7403 paint remover), primed (Zinsser 1-2-3) and repainted (Sherwin Williams Super-Paint).

It may seem like a minor detail, but after hundreds of hours priming and painting, I can strongly vouch for paint brushes from Wooster Brush Co. They hold paint well; the bristles are controllable and paint better than other brands and they’re easier to clean. During this project, I’ve used brushes from Avanti, Purdy and some no-named ones and none have matched the quality and performance of the brushes from Wooster Brush Co.

*Note, I did take a break from painting for the month of June to build a new chicken coop.

I have wooster and purdy brushes that are more than 20 yrs old, keep them clean and they last forever. They were a little expensive at the time, but it was a good buy.

My daughter lived in Wooster, and I’m really surprised to see their brushes way out here. I had assumed they were a small local supplier, but I was very wrong. Glad to hear their quality backs that up.

For years I always had problems cutting a clean line even using Purdy brushes. One time I decided to try a Wooster sash brush and boom! Problem solved. I really like the Wooster brushes and buy nothing else now, except the disposable foam brushes for certain quick/dirty stuff.

Wooster are definitely the best. Then purdy and the rest pretty far behind actually. Purdy make great painting accessories but Wooster leads in brushes.

Another really good brand is Corona; not to be confused with the virus or the beer.

Used Avanti for trimming in my primer and stuff, it was fine but sorta sloppy. Got a Wooster GripTech for cutting in between the ceiling and wall and it's by far the superior brush. Very controllable and repeatable results, I'm getting very clean lines. Well worth the $12 or so.

I did have a few bristles fall out of the Wooster, not sure how common that is. Overall it's a very nice brush though.

Wow this doesnt match my experiences at all, i painted houses in school and Purdy was all we used. I only ever tried two Wooster brushes but wasn’t too impressed.

Maybe I should give them another look but Sherwin Williams only stocks Purdy

SW owns Purdy brush. While not widely sold, another very fine brushmaker is Corona.
