Fix ratchet tie-down, heat and expansion?

Okay, I now this is an utter waste of time, but that's what I like to do! And I'm also wondering if it would even work.

I can't "overbend" the frame on this ratchet tie down without completely disassembling it, but would putting some sort of wedge/expansion bolt in-between the frame, then heating the metal (at the proper "bend" point) and allowing it to cool, get it closer to normal/take up the gaps?

(right now, the pawls sometimes slip behind the frame and the mechanism gets stuck)

Squeeze it together and put a bigger pin/bolt thru the hole to keep it from spreading.

Could You use a different pin and put a couple washers on the outside to help reinforce it?

some people like to try and repair things, even if you can easily replace them. knowing how to repair stuff and having the ability to do so is enjoyable for alot of people. Even if the task at hand isn't "worth it" in a monetary sense.

I buy those as throw aways for hold tarps, etc.
The 2" straps are even $15-20 each online vs the $30+ at the walk in stores.

Gave a couple to someone that bought a tipping dumpster from me and forgot his straps in another truck.

If you're on a phone, turn it sideways.

gotta be careful heating steels, if you get it too hot it anneals (gets soft). You could try dipping it in cold water after heat but some steel requires oil quench and yet other steel air hardens. it's a gamble on this deal. Basic hot rolled steel doesn't quench harden at all. If you go forward i'd just try bending it cold and hope for the best.
