My Garage Evolution Progress Pics

I've been working on my garage as time permits. It's not going as quickly as I'd hoped, but we are slowly and surely moving forward. Check out my progress so far.

I started with this:

First, I threw away a bunch of stuff Then, I built a soffit cabinet.

I also built a fold down workbench.

And another one, and I added more cabinets after moving the existing ones over about three feet...

Then I painted the walls with some paint I had left over from the exterior paint job (in 2008).

Today I cleaned up and painted the workbench area.

I think I got it now. I used the url from my GJ album, but the album was set to "private". I set it to "public" and I think that fixed it.

I'll try to put some better ones up. They are very easy to make and basically just plywood shelves with doors on them. Total cost for the six door cabinet on the right was about $100.00.

I used 1x3s, glue and pocket screws to make the faces. The doors are just sanded plywood cut to size. I cut the "open" side and the bottom of each one at a slight bevel to give me a handle to open cabinet. The door on the right in each "pair" has the cabinet "stile" screwed to it, so the total opening is larger with the door open. In other words the six door cabinet on the right has three 25 (ish) openings.

Yes, I stole the idea from Jack Olsen's 12 Gauge Garage. (Thanks Jack! )

My execution was a little different than his, but the concept is pretty much the same. The tops are just 3/4 plywood (actually 23/32) glued and screwed together. I used three door hinges to mount them to a ledger screwed to the wall studs. Jack put blocks underneath his for the tops to rest on. I'm not sure I'll ever do that. Mine seem to be pretty sturdy as is, and I do not anticipate putting anything on there that is too heavy for me to lift. My garage is not that heavy duty.
