Today was really busy at work. Done several things. 4 tire balance and alignment on RAV4. Tire change on a brand new Corolla customer wanted different tires on it in order for them to agree to buying it so did that. Alignment on a Tundra with an oil change and rotate. Lug nuts were extremely swollen but customer declined them as 20 of them costed $370 because they were $18 something a piece. Oil change and tire rotation and brake inspection on a 2001 Mustang. I hate working on Ford lol. Tried to sell rear brakes but they declined them. Then have a Sienna in my bay for Monday. It was towed in because the radiator is leaking and it’s over heating. We don’t have a radiator in stock but it was ordered. And done 4 rotors and pads all around on a 2019 Highlander too. Also installed a new tire on a Corolla too because it had a non patchable nail in it. One of the managers keeps telling me I need to be faster but the guy who is in the bay next to me stood up for me and told him to not worry about it because he isn’t in charge of service anyway. I beat book time on everything pretty much so I don’t know what his problem was. Then my manager got on to him as well and told him to mind his own business and not worry about someone he wasn’t in charge of. So I appreciate that from my manager. One thing I can’t stand is to be rushed.

Yesterday I purchased and brought in over 350lbs of steel, **** ***** loading and unloading it with bad feet and a bad back.

Bought it cause I have 12 orders of an assembly I need to start this Saturday.

20240822_171152.jpg

The kicker?

Garage is in shambles as I had to pull out one of my small table fixtures, move the big one over (+150lbs) and make room for another welding table I just bought.

Well, per FedEx it was supposed to deliver today. One box hasn't left the nearby hub and the other is still on its way from AZ so....

20240823_104955.jpg

Garage will have to remain a mess and I'll wait until tomorrow or Monday to put the new table up and reorganize (once it arrives).

Spoke too soon, the table top did arrive it just wasn't scanned in the system.

Gave me time to somewhat organize so I did that earlier.

Legs should arrive tomorrow so can't wait to get it together next to my other table.

Current table weighs about 150lbs, this one will weigh at about 200lbs. Both 3/8" thick.

Took the 1955 Pontiac Star Chief to a car show and it started leaking oil.
Got it back home after the show and found a pin hole in the oil pan. So I spent the day trying to find the correct oil pan for a 55. I found some possibilities. I also tried to figure out the correct paint color because the source materials say it's a dark green but mine is blue. At least it hasn't gotten cold yet in Minnesota. This will probably end up being a winter projecd.

Sad.
I have a car show tomorrow.
Universe said no.

My hood flipped up on the highway.
Do not get me started.

Yeah! Go fast make mistakes like that idiot lube tech you have working there.
It’s Friday did they show that ***** the door today?

I know it’s been almost 40 years since I finished my 10 year stint in a dealership but I do know that back then that loser would have been gone on #2 fuckup if not on his first!

I feel for you working flat rate on cars today. I’m glad it’s been 40 years since I’ve played that game.

Been waiting for some parts to repair the weed wacker.
Got them yesterday.
I replaced the fuel line and filter.
1724466664403.png
Refilled the spool.
Then I couldn't get it to stay running.
Fiddled with it and got it running. But I couldn't go full throttle.
It died a few more times.
I pumped the primer bulb and gas was leaking from it.
Of course...
It split.
I got a primer bulb in the kit. I had to smash the plastic housing to get the bulb out.
My Ryobi has a metal plate mounting the bulb.
Stay tuned...

I really like these plaques you're making.

Here's my favorites from a couple of Dirt Digger's Dinosaur Races a million years ago. For the 1979 race, I rode a Harley-Davidson KR flathead rigid frame that belonged to the service manager at our shop. 1981 was my Yamaha TT-500. So jazzed to race at Ascot Park and I won one heat.

Tried to start the push weed wacker. It filed to start even after starting Thursday on the second pull. THIS *****, so more work on it. Gave away a couple ladder deer stands and one aluminum climbing stand, clearing out space. Cleaned and swept. Still grumbling about the push weed wacker....ugh

Made some progress yesterday outside working on repairing the rotten wood on the sunroom windows...
I work a little in the morning, then take a break around noon, then start up again after the sun moves and I'm back in the shade...
I'm in no rush... I'm retired... :ROFLMAO:

Replaced the spinning part of the line trimmer. Newer version looks to have made some changes compared to the one that came with it.

Then I mowed, trimmed, and edged the lawn.

Finished the morning with sanding the kayak and putting a first coat of filler epoxy on the hull. Waiting a few hours and will add a second coat of epoxy. I have a few low spots I'm trying to fill in. May end up having to put on a third, but we'll wait until after the second coat is on. Sadly a good amount of the epoxy I'm putting on the boat today will be sanded off to make everything smooth next week.

Made a new handle for a Weber grill lid.

We use this lid to close off the firepit. Last night there was a big half burned log remaining when we closed it off, so the lid didn't fully fit, and the fire kept burning underneath it until it burned down enough. Apparently that got the lid hot enough to burn away the bottom of the handle and char the top piece:

So I made a new one:

Filled the pressure washer with gas and it proceeded to puke it all over the floor!! A microscopic pinhole where the tank met the mounting flange (bubbles below) but the damn thing leaked like a cut jugglar !

Rigged up a low pressure regulator so I could figure out where the heck it was. Used my leakdown tester and a hose barb and backfed the outlet a few PSI (In through the out door as it were ) . Sealed the fill hole with tape so I couldnt put that much pressure inside.

Removed the offending section of mounting flange and roughed up the area and degreased. Glued with JB Weld Plastic Bonder. The tank is HDPE (Low Energy plastic) so it is rather hard to glue but Ive had good luck with the JB plastic bond in the past. If it fails, the repair didnt cost much anyway. A new tank is $130ish so any repair is worth a try. Next tank will likely be a metal "Chonda" replacement anyways so this doesnt happen again.

Moved the Mustang engine from the stand to the cradle, installed the flex plate and torqued the bolts, bead blasted a intake manifold vacuum tree to replace the one that caused the brake booster hose to point directly to the firewall, took apart the light on the blast cabinet to replace the protective strip and decided to swap out the light for a brighter LED fixture (scope creep). Got to go get a new fixture somewhere tomorrow.

Haven't posted in awhile.

Finally received the CBX carbs back from rebuild. Installed them today and started putting a few other things back together. What a ***** removing and installing these carbs are. Glad it's done now. Hope to get the bike completely back together in the next few weeks so I can list it on BAT.

Sometimes when something like this happens, the temptation to toss a match into the puddle of gas is enormous.......lol

Had to catch up here from Wed. as the notices fell off-

My hood flipped up on the highway.

Something to be said for hood pins!

I wasted a hood on my 47 ford PU that way once, passing a semi and the air spill from the front of the rig went under and flipped it.

=========================

After a "Power nap" (hour and 45 min) min afternoon, the small side table I bought today needed cleaning - and MAN, it has I'm guessing at least 50 years of Nicotine deposits...

I started with Murhpy's oil soap, and it just keeps coming:

Nicotine-Rags.jpg

I googled for cleaning nicotine film off wood furniture, and got suggestions from Naphtha, to Ivory soap, and yes, Murphy's...

I tried CF/Naphtha, hardly touched it. I tried Dawn Ultra Platinum Spary that SWMBO swears by, and barely touched it... Back to Murphy's and paper towels are black with it again... It's no longer sticky, but Its NOT "clean" yet. I need to find what will cut it, or just bite the bullet and strip and refinish... Certainly the top is already stripped for the most part other than Nicotine. I'm considering TSP?

Nicotine-Table.jpg

In any case it's not sticky to the touch anymore, so Its going into use until I have time for it, But if the oder does not ease up SOON I'l have ot move it up. I hate stale nicotine smell.

After dinner I cleared a space next to my 1880 roll top for a 3X4 IKEA Expidit, book case, A semi room divider, Not elegant but ist is functional and only cost me $30.

I tried that on the Kohler plastic/resin tank on the TroyBilt horse tiller. Failed gruesomely. I burned a little bracket/adapter and mounted a Chonda takeoff tank from the HF replacement engine for the Dingo.

Custom cut a bit more trim work but really spent time cutting the aluminum strips that go between my Acacia wood flooring for my bar kick panel. Engineered flooring and powder coated aluminum should surely tolerate my drunk buddies feet going forward. Plan to test fit it tomorrow.

Im not expecting great results either !! I'll know tomorrrow. Giving the glue lots of time to set. Gluing to HDPE plastic is bad, expecting that glue to stand up to gasoline is even worse.

And here are the finished three Spark Plug Trophies. I went with the same Classic Black stain for the bottom plates on these followed by a coat of the clear polyurethane. . Just need to add the catagory info.

Actually managed to finish these quicker then I thought I would. Which means.....it looks like I might be able to get a couple more different catagory trophies made before the show too. Let's see. 1724290823568.jpeg1724290776591.jpeg
Meet 'Rats Rule's' twin brother 'Rat Bike'. Can't have enough Rat Awards I guess. Made Rat Bike yesterday and finished assembling today. Same basic construction as Rats Rule.

Rumor has it there may be a Rat triplet running about, but that may just be hyperbole.. Oh well its back to the work bench to see what else I can come up with for the Car Show. 1724558326598.jpeg

You need to fuse the plastic, not glue it. If it won't fuse, replace.
Probably.

Glue was a bad choice of term on my part. Im trying to seal more than glue. Going in there with something hot to melt the plastic would likely end up in more leaks.

Ive had good luck with the JB Weld Plastic Bond gluing hard to glue plastic in the past. Its a Urethane as opposed to epoxy. Still I dont have high hopes.

Worst case, Ill just throw a CHonda steel tank on it and be done. Theyre only $30. Probably should have done that anyways as the JB Weld cost me $14

I finally installed my extension cord reels
I did the same thing in mt 2 car garage most of 40 years ago, only not reels, I used twist locks into the box, and had them each side of the race car. just in reach, on h within arm's reach of my main bench vise an i the most used outlet in the garage, even though there is a wall outlet chest high behind the vise.

Dollar Store “Totally Awesome” cleaner cuts nicotine well. Use it somewhere you don’t care about the runoff.

Got the '03 Focus up in the air and pulled the wheels off. It's getting new tires on Tuesday, plus I needed to see what exciting things I'd find on the left front wheel. It confirmed my suspicion, based on the godawful noise it made when I drove it.

Obviously pads/rotors, plus doing a new caliper and hose on that side just in case. It might need a replacement wheel, it's covered in crusty **** that must be hardened brake pad material. It's like 3/16" thick in some areas.

This was my dad's car. As soon as I heard this, I parked it and pulled the negative battery cable, and told him NOT to touch it. Last weekend I towed it home behind the '95 F150 which, thankfully, is in wonderful condition. Also happy with the Quick Jack, it's nice to have the Focus up so high.
