Hi,

Someone posted a Snap On Roll Cart on Facebook Marketplace for $1,000. Seller claims the cart has never been used. Here are
the pictures posted:

This is the Snap On product page, according to the seller:

I understand that Snap On dealers don't sell these at MSRP. So here are my questions:

1- How much are these selling new in reality?
2- Does this look like a real SO roll cart?
3- Is there a way to verify this is not a stolen cart?
4- Since the seller can always sell it to his Snap On dealer, how much would a dealer offer for it? Does the dealer pays cash,
or do they give techs credit for purchase other SO tools?

If there is something I should know, let me know. I'm just a DIYer looking to get a nice box to store my tools. Harbor Freight
is not an option since there isn't a HF in my area.

Thanks for any help.

At $1K, it looks to be less than half the original cost.

I highly doubt a SO dealer is going to offer cash, unless it is a low ball offer and knows he has a buyer to flip it to.

Credit towards a trade in on a new box, yes.

I would bet a good dealer would knock 1k off for the right person. So if that's unused it's still a steal.

Looks like the casters have only been on carpet, the slides look like the old friction type, thought S O went to ball bearings

I would guarantee those are not friction slides. I have one of these 40” service carts like this at my work. It absolutely has ball bearing slides. I believe they were done with friction slides by the late 90’s?

I got mine used a few years ago in very nice condition for $1000 at a local pawn shop. My dealer couldn’t come anywhere close to that even with all the incentives and the “rock and roll” truck special offers. Best he would do was knock off a couple hundred bucks and it was still going to be $1800-ish for a brand new model. He wasn’t much on dealing though.

You can always call Snap-on with a serial number and verify there is not still money owed on it.

FWIW I like mine quite a bit. Due to the layout of our shop I keep 90% of my most commonly used tools in my cart like this. I have a big box back in the corner but almost never have to get anything out of it for most repairs. The size of this feels just about right for me.

what's the issue if money is still owed on it? that would be the sellers problem, right?

I believe the dealer/Snap-On still "owns" it until it is paid off, so it could maybe be considered receiving stolen goods. Not a lawyer.

Depends, If a lien has been filed on the product under the UCC, by s/n, it could be repo-ed. At least in some states, they all have their own rules. But if it's only an owed amount with no record of the S/N, it would be the sellers problem. Or more precisely, the dealers problem!

I paid $500 for mine used.
There is a serial number on them you can call a dealer and have him run it, and he can tell you if there is money owed on it but not necessarily if it's been stolen.

That's a real fair price for that cart especially in that condition. The smaller carts like that there's not a whole lot of meat that they can deal on.
