Depends on what transmission it's for. It could be a Power Glide
PNDLR or PRNDL or NDLR
The Hydramatic in our '53 Olds had NDrSLoR. It didn't have a Park pawl so you had to put it in R when you shut the engine off to keep it from rolling away. Or, use the handbrake left of the steering column.

Got the kayak buffed, polished, and waxed. It's a boat that's going to be used and scratched, so I didn't go to the trouble of doing a full wet sand and cut before buffing. You can still see some orange peel if you look for it.

Then I tied on the bow and stern handles.
It’s been great watching the build! You did a fantastic job- thanks for sharing!

I too, have very much enjoyed the start to finish on the Kayak! Keep them coming with some floating action shots!

Managed to get back on the campervan project.

Not sure what I may have shared previously, so I'm going to spam some progress since I returned from work in AK a month ago.
This is more than today, but I did work on it today....

Sound deadener

Went to Blows to buy a short length of Carpet Runner. The Website showed that only one store in San Diego had it in stock.

No one in the store was able to locate it. Their store computer also showed it in stock, but on a close out.

I wanted some Clear Plastic Corner Guards, they had only 4 in the store. Only one was Undamaged, I bought the 3 best ones.

All through the store there seemed to be almost no employees present.

Mrs Nadogail was extremely disappointed in their lack of selection of indoor plants.

Pulled most things away from the garage walls and gave the shop floor a deep cleaning in preparation for the bug man's visit today.

While I was waiting for him, I made a couple sets of cleats and runners to separate my HF storage cases.
Simple, but now I don’t have to move everything to get at the case on the bottom.

Walked into disappointment, that’s what I did.

Tried to go to work, but still noticeably sick, the guy training me sent me home.

So I thought I’d at least TRY to move around more.

Anyway…

This is a fresh 460.IMG_4797.jpeg

I had this machined before I moved out here. Oiled her up, wrapped her up, and walked away. For well over 5 years. Probably closer to 8 since being machined.

Well, having oil pressure issues in the Lincoln, I thought I’d get the original (fresh block) ready for assembly so I can just do a swap-a-roo. Nope. Opened the wrapping to this rusted hulk.

Dunno what I’m gonna do. Maybe a wire brush and have at it. Then *********** hone the cylinders clean.

Man. I’m at a loss here.

Have you seen Evaporust gel? I use the regular Evaporust. It works great.

I've not yet tested this but I'm going to soon. similar results to E-rust and WAY cheaper. It's doing the same thing - chelating the rust - and the ingredients are easy.

CAUTION -the guy in the vid mixes this up in a wide flat tub - for a reason - A guy on another forum did it in a bucket and it fountained out during the mixing! initially you need Personal Protective Gear - after its mixed it's not particularly hazardous.

The formula on a 1 liter basis:
1 liter water
100 grams Citric acid
40 grams of sodium carbonate - washing soda
OR 63 grams Baking soda
OR 30 grams of caustic soda

Add some dish soap as a surfactant - Dawn

I've honed and scuffed the worst of the rust off a block, assembled, and run it. A big engine like the 460 doesn't really care.

Dang all I could find on that jungle website is 8oz of the gel. Dunno who would carry it locally in bigger containers.

Reviews are quite… varied lol
I've used the regular stuff by soaking rags and wrapping the part then wrapping it in plastic.
Another rust removing method I've done is using CLR at about 10% to 20% concentration with water. Then soaking the part in it.

Yes, I realize it's an engine block. If you could build a crate around it then put heavy plastic in it. You should be able to fill around it. It's just a thought.

This evening I wandered over to see the guys who will be painting my F350 running boards. Discovered MY part of the job involves getting them 100% ready for paint, thought they'd at least be doing the final sand.
Now I'm under the hammer to get them ready by 6pm Tuesday.

Got home & worked on the four smaller pieces sat on the garage step until it got dark. Hope to have them blocked out with #400 wet tomorrow.

That gives me Sat, Mon & Tuesday to work on the two 10ft pieces. One is close to ready, the other isn't.

Four showers in two days, I'll end up with webbed feet..

Glued drawer #3.

Got out my box of vintage knobs. These all came from my Jersey Shore cottage, and are probably 1930s.

Makeshift lathe with dust collection. Power drill with wire wrapped around the trigger for speed control. Microphone stand and zip ties to hold the shop vac hose.

Cleaned up:

And ready for stain.

Moved an exhaust fan. I put up an enclosed loft last winter and the fan ended up inside it so it had to be moved.
IMG_2110.jpeg

The first time I installed it we just cut a matching square hole and filled the voids with insulation. This time we cut a circle and even caulked around the traffic barrel shroud. Super fancy !!
IMG_2108.jpeg

Also got the opening for a new garage door in the lean to framed in. Just waiting on the door to arrive so we can stick it in and permanently evict all the birds that have made their home in it.

I posted pictures last night of the kayak floating in our pool over in this thread if you've been following along and haven't seen them.

Having second thoughts about having the the guys in the local college autopaint class do the paint on the F350 parts.
The instructor said I'd have to sign a waiver in case the parts were stolen, plus I'd have to do the final cut & buff.
Dropping by a local body shop this morning to speak with the owner.
Sounds like a huge hassle dealing with the school. All they are doing is final paint? Almost sounds fishy.

Spoke to the guy at the body shop. He said to prep to #800 owing to the water-based **** we have to use. So college is out of the picture & I have more work to do.
I do the prep, body shop will do paint, cut & buff & help me install the 10ft pieces.

Much happier.
well, apart from feathering out the dings in the "sticky-out" area ahead of rear duals.

Now the Tuesday deadline is no more I can work in the evenings instead of in the sun.
