Vintage MAC Toolbox Cleaning Up

I received this Tool box yesterday. The lid on it was stuck a little bit with the rust. I sprayed with PB Blaster Penetrating Spray and WD40. Will it be safe to use this on the hinges? Look at the pictures please and give me your thoughts. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Yea. I use the wire brushes on the hinges all the time. Both sides if you can get to them and blow them out with air and repeat. Then PB blaster again.

I really appreciate it, I will definitely try it. If all works out I will try to figure out taking the drawers out

Wire wheel on the hinge is perfectly safe. I like to heat them up a little (torch or heat gun) and hit with penetrating oil while still warm. Doesn’t take much above ambient temperature to make a difference.

I don't see anything in your photos that a wire wheel is going to improve. I'm not out to argue with people saying it's safe, but you run the risk of marring the paint. Some wheels are much softer than others, obviously. Penetrating oil and wiggle-wiggle ought to loosen them up. +1 for a bit of heat. (Minus one for wire wheeling).

Glad I didn’t get rid of my heat gun. How long would you recommend holding the heat gun on there?

Won’t take much - I’d guess around 30 seconds. Just enough to get it to 150 degrees-ish. That will open up the clearances enough for oil to flow in better.
