Take a guess...
Now have the two smallest pieces at #600wet & guide coated
Two middle pieces are at #400 wet & guide coated (they will be at #600 today)

And I'm still ignoring the two 10ft pieces which I think are at #220 dry.

This could turn into my longest paint job*... & I'm not even doing the actual paint part

*My '69 XR7 Cougar was about 260 hours over 16 weeks, as was my '70 Ranchero.

Funny I don't have more pictures of this.
Also funny I'm so bad at it.

I decided wife and I need electric bicycles. I usually make this kind of decision when I find something I think is cool. I admit I am pretty compulsive. We don't ride bikes, we don't need more bikes (I think we have 5 or 6 already). None are electric....
I justified them by calling them RV/Camping transportation... we'll see how that goes.

Anyways, I wound up purchasing a pair of these el-cheapo chinesium bikes (I think their all chinesium these days)...

They arrived and I put them together. I knew nothing about e-bikes before we bought these. I started learning what I didn't know....

While I still don't know what I don't know, the first thing I noticed was that the gear ratio is tailored towards slower speeds. It's a 1/7 drivetrain and the high gear (1-7, or seventh gear in the only range) is I think 42-14.
That gear ratio is pretty decent without electric assist.
With Electric assist, 42-14 runs out pretty fast. You wind up 'ghost peddling' alot. Thats when your feet can't keep up with the wheels.

Without electric assist, on this bike, 15-17 mph is about as fast as you will go. The gears fit that speed pretty well.

With Electric assist, on this bike, you can pretty easily go 24 mph. Listed max speed is 28 mph, but I haven't left my yard yet and haven't seen that speed yet.

Above 15 mph your windmilling (ghost pedaling). I decided I needed better gears on my rock bottom chinesium bike.

I decided to order a different rear gearset to help with the ghost peddling.

I spent a billion hours trying to figure out if I had a freewheel or a freehub.

20240911_142529.jpg

Long story short, I ordered the wrong part.

The socket I got in the tool kit didn't fit, so I turned it down and it worked fine. I know now that it was the wrong tool, but coincidentaly the inside diameter was large enough to clear the e-hub.

After I modified the tool, I was able to remove the hub and realized the replacement I ordered wouldn't work.
I ordered a different part.

20240924_130116.jpg

Eventually I got the right stuff and installed it.

Once I confirmed it would work, I ordered another set for the wifes bike.

As I was installing the gears on the wifes bike, I reflected that I was getting pretty good at it. I figured I could do a freehub swap in about 20 minutes.

All went well, and I was adjusting the shifter mechanism to the new gearset.

I had it all lined up and working perfect, upside down in my makeshift workstand.

As I was 'tuning' the shifter, I noticed it still had the original gearset installed. I had managed to remove one gearset and reinstall the gearset from my other bike, instead of the new gearset. I'm an idiot.
Here's something I saw after purchasing bike for the wife and I. Crazy dual motor set up. I would have been perfect for where I live. It's a little bit more money but you get a lot of bike! https://www.furious-ebikes.com/online-store/EMX-Ultimate-60v-NOVEMBER-PRE-ORDER-p688015381

Yeah, the dual motors are getting popular. Ours are very entry level and I wasn't looking to spend too much on them.
There are other more affordable dual motor bikes out there around $1200.

Eric, there's something wrong with your photo. I don't see a rat's nest of welding wire anywhere. Every time I change the spool I find one.
I went through that before the roll of Blue Demon wire.

Getting towards the end of the spool, the issue started to come back. I ended up taking a washer out of the tension spool.

It's a common trick to help save rollers and liners from the abrasive environment around a welder. I've got a little piece of sponge stuck onto the wire at the infeeds on my welders.
I guess I can see that, but I’ve burned tons of wire over the years and never had an issue. You should’ve seen the crud inside the welders at the railing shop and the muffler shops I’ve worked at. My personal welder is a little cleaner than those, but only a little.lol

Thinking back, the welder at the rubbish company I worked at was probably the most well kept. Ironic.

Loaded new wire in the welder.

Finished welding the cross bars. Then did some grinding on the cross bars. Then sprayed some rust converter on the cross bars.

I'm going to install and test these as is on Saturday morning. If they work well, then I'll use some bondo to make them look nice, prime, and paint them.

Despite the ongoing health crisis, and only getting four hours of sleep, worked on the brakes for a while this afternoon.

Bent and flared the short line from the ABS solenoids to the junction:

First time using my new HF flare kit. Also first bubble flare. Works well, I’m happy with it. Even remembered to put the tube nuts on before flaring the ends.

Bent up the long line to the back. Flared it, and again remembered to put the nuts on first.

IMG_5944.jpeg

Found this line is wet:

IMG_5945.jpeg

It wasn’t wet yesterday. I must have cracked it while trying to get the other line off. I’ll have to replace this one too,

Replaced the mangled rear hose. Had to cut the lines to the wheel cylinders. Re-flared those with new tube nuts. That’s six flares in a row without forgetting a tube nut.

Decided I’d had enough for one day. I need another box of M10x1.0 bubble flare nuts to replace that cracked line up front.

Better it dies now, than in a week during emergency braking.

After work I got the two missing bolts on the T-vans back door trim/backup lights bar on one end, and with the help of my youngest daughter's smaller hands to start them, got the nuts on. I tried 2-3 different weird drive tools that got me close but could not get them in -I needed about a 7" long 1/4" drive right angle "remote" ratchet. I have one much bigger but that was not an option.

Then I checked fluids, and looked for a place to connect a vacuum line to the down stream part of the FI manifold. Times like these I miss simple carbs... All I want is a simple vacuum gauge to monitor, while driving

Getting our Mazda 3 ready for certification so we can sell it. Today my son in law ( pictured above ) and myself took the exhaust back down again, to weld up the rear cat. Unfortunately after getting it back together it is now leaking at the front and rear flanges😂

Took the exhaust back down again, welded this little piece in here that protrudes past the flange so that it’s the same as OEM, pit a new crush gasket at the rear and new gasket at the front and thankfully it’s now not leaking

Chewed up wax bar, rat pee and sh!t everywhere, an hour later and all is cleaned up with a sprinkling of peppermint oil through all the drawers

Good luck on your health crisis, you’ve probably already mentioned what it is, but my memory is…..What were we talking about again?

Had the pleasure of emptying a mouse trap, caught one of the little buggers!

Then the beetle in my avatar would not start so I jumped it and let it fun a few minutes. Shut off and it would not restart. So jumped again backed into the shop. Put the trickle charger on. After 4 hours it still wasn't past 25% so I removed the battery and installed a spare. Fired right up. Pulled it out of the shop and put the battery removed on the charger, will check tomorrow.

Yep. Not complaining at all about it. Just not fixing it today. Debating doing its companions that haven‘t failed yet, but are 23 years old.
I did what you are thinking, replaced all of the brake lines on a 2002 Honda Civic (or was it an Accord??) due to several line was wet and one was broke in two. Then someone proceeded to hit the car a month later (cracked headlight assembly and bumper cover, nothing serious) and the insurance company totaled it.

Got the lumber rack on the truck and got the kayak up there. I don't like how much weight is over the cab of the truck. Too much bounce and it's going to hit the cab.

1000003164.jpg

I have some clearance to play with, so I will try moving the braces to the area over the bed and see how things fit. I think the kayak can come back easily 3ft and still have over a foot of clearance from the trailer.

This came out of processing" last evening - it is the Pyramid toaster I picked up last Sunday, Earlier this week I made more of the home brew "De-rusto" solution, and gave the toaster a bath. most things rinsed off when done and a light whisk with a brass "toothbrush" and the results were great!

Before - As found:

Toaster-Before.jpg

After - and after drying over our gas kitchen stove - I'm thinking about "seasoning" these - I have 2 now - on a camp stove and just lightly brushing on Grapeseed oil hot?
