Anyone used SATA wrenches?

Did a search and was surprised how few threads there are about this company, and most are over ten years old.

Anyone used any SATA brand tools recently, specifically the wrenches? Lower price point and lots of reviews complaining about issues with the finish, but as a cheap “get every size you might need” set it seemed like a decent option.

Amazon send to be aggressively marketing them; they keep showing in my feed. They do review ok. Made in India I think.

They aren’t really distributed to the USA. They are Apex’s international brand. They have claimed it’s the biggest brand in China. Popular all over the place outside of the US and Europe. I have line wrenches, pass thru sockets, ratcheting screwdrivers, Allen keys… that I have found indistinguishable from GW. Sometimes they are half the price. They can be hard to find here. I have never seen one of their combination wrenches. Pretty much Internet only in the US, store fronts in Latin America and Asia.

I don't know about the bigger sets but I got the (cheap) 6 piece metric combination wrench set( 8-15 mm w/skipped sizes) for my other tool box. They are made in China, nicely finished but the beams are on the thin side and are uncomfortable with hard pulling so I just grab the ends. The box ends fit on the sloppy side as well but they work for light duty. I much prefer my much more comfortable S-K Professional (not smooth full polish) combo wrenches with the thick beam.
Personally, I'd put the money toward a better set with the prices I've seen.

Interesting! How do you like the ratcheting stuff? I had a set of Gearwrenches at work years back and they were good.

I have the stubby ratcheting screwdriver and it seems identical to the Gearwrench one. Don’t have any SATA ratcheting box end wrenches. Gearwrench makes a bunch of variations of ratcheting wrenches, and don’t usually offer everything in the SATA line. That may only be in this country though. They have several country specific YouTube channels that show all kinds of things for sale in different countries that can’t be purchased here.

For the price there are better options, assuming there isn't a major discount. SATA is Gearwrench that is exclusively sold on Amazon.

A similarly priced Dewalt combination wrench set is about the same price but has features such as grooves in the open end and a longer overall length.

SATA is basically last year's model of gearwrench tools made in China. Ratchets are 72 tooth but otherwise looks just like husky or GW. I got an SAE set of combination wrenches silly cheap on prime day (like Pittsburgh prices) 2 years ago because I needed (wanted) two wrenches I could leave outdoors and not care if they rusted.

The finish appeared great at first glance but several wrenches had very fine rust spots in the chrome right out of the package. They are generic and unremarkable otherwise, so I'd probably just buy gear wrench on sale.

A Canadian here....I bought a Canadian Tire Maximum brand torque wrench (their higher end brand) and the QC slip was SATA and made in China... it's not pro grade but it is OK for the price point. As it's Crappy Tire, wait for the sale ("if it's not in the flyer, don't buy it from the Tire" - Canadian joke)

I suspect alot of private label Gearwrench stuff is probably the same production line as SATA in China.

When in doubt, I error on Made in Taiwan and actively avoid made in India.

I use SATA spray guns but never SATA wrenches. I do wonder why SATA spray guns (who are well known to sue everybody) never sued over the use of their name for wrenches.

The 55 degree offset set is decent, (non-ratcheting) 6-22 mm lives being the seat in the work truck. Handy but cheap enough I won't be too upset if it walks...

I bought a set of metric wrenches from Amazon for my daughter two years ago. They are decent and I'd rate them as homeowner grade Definitely better than Pittsburgh and cheap India wrenches, fine for an emergency set or even moderate use. As others noted, they are basically Gearwrench.

I have a 9 piece SAE set, they replaced my mish mash collection of SAE wrenches that I have had for years of at least 7 brands in 18 sizes. I've only used a few of them a couple of times around the house and they performed fine. If I were doing a lot of wrenching under a hood I'd want something better but for my casual use they are fine, they have a nice finish.

I have the Combo wrenches OP posted (they were $100 last Christmas) and have GW ratcheting wrenches and they seem on par and at that price point is a good deal IMO. Dbl Box end set has worked fine

the 3/8 ratchet is a carbon copy of husky. For $10 it’s a good back up

Screwdrivers were poor

SATA has 120p ratchets as well. Available on Zoro. I don’t have them. Other SATA stuff I'm happy with are their ratcheting T-handle bit driver. $22 for the kit during a sale. Their 4 V electric screwdriver was outstanding for $14 back in July. The screwdrivers aren’t bad tips, and the handles are ok, but the kind of randomly pushed the shafts into the handles different distances. Odd, to say the least. Their tap and die handle sets can sometimes be found for 1/2 the Gearwrench set. I’m happy with those as well. Those ratcheting handles will turn their pass -thru sockets as well too, if you want a t-handle.

The SATA 09054 is a good metric kit with ratcheting wrenches and 120 tooth ratchet. I got a deal on Woot! last year and it's a nice kit.

I have their line wrenches, they are identical to the one Gearwrench I have. I got them off their Amazon store.

I always thought it was a way to hook up a disk drive.

I've never looked at their products before, but on Amazon, and as close as I can estimate it (the sets aren't identical), their prices seem about the same as Gearwrench. Perhaps intended for different markets?
