Nice finds!

That rail section looks to have a nice mostly squared off top too! Unusual.
Yeah, just what I was thinking! At 2 1/4" across the top, it seems kinda narrow too--inside of the turn?

Gotta get to grinding on it. Not sure if I want to spend the time to give it a horn.

Here’s what I did pick up on my failed Wilton attempt yesterday. Two drawer carry box stuffed with tools. Snap on on the left, craftsman =v= in the bin on the right, and a full set of dbe and tappet wrenches on top. Some other misc. in there as well- 2 4” adjustables, a proto and a champion ratchet, a 1/2” herbrand spinner etc…

I was a little bummed that the metric snap on stuff was all non-Japanese sizes. Might have overplayed a little at 50 bucks, but I needed to drown my sorrows after missing out on the baby bullet.

Something that small I'd think about welding on a horn of some type, maybe a back piece made into a standard square hardie hole? - that last could; be fabbed rather than machined.

Strange how things turn up, amazes me at times.
I live a town that is the county seat of a county that is roughly 90% of the size of Connecticut. Population about 6500, just a wee bit rural.
Friday I posted, in this thread, some things that I bought in the one yard sale in town that day. There was a wrench I could not ID. PROVINCIAL came up with the ID as a Dodge tool kit wrench 1914 to early 1920s (thanks). I collect tools and have a separate storage for OEM supplied car tools.
Today, I was over 90 miles from home in another county and came across another sale. Low and behold, there were two more Dodge wrenches from that early set in the sale.

Anyway, here are my finds for today.

Here is a TOO grab from today, from a poorly marked sale, light gray address on a cream sign with pre printed GARAGE SALE in solid black letters, had to slow to a crawl to read it. Lots of NIB stuff at slightly reduced prices, ceiling fans, lights glassware, bikes and parts

I picked this up, said, nah, too thrashed for use, and I have a nicer one. MLW picked it up, thought it perfect for her gardening tools. Our existing one is too big and heavy for quick jobs, so this will bridge the gap nicely.

This place is also known as the Rusty Tool Museum, because at the prices they ask for most things, people just come in, look around and leave.
is that in Longview WA?

Today's haul from my favorite place for deals, is a Ryobi BS901 9" table top bandsaw....

20241026_184611.jpg

I already own two 14" bandsaws (a JET with a 6" extension and 1" wide blade for re-sawing and a RIDGID with a 3/16" wide blade for tight curve cuts) So, did I need a benchtop model?.....Well, Yes! :lol2: cause I have "TAD" (Tool Acquisition Disease ) Plus the price was right....
AddOn7.jpg

Total was $21.89 after my 15% Military discount....not as good as Tuesday's 25% discount, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!

Some excellent finds fellas!

Today has been what I consider an exceptional flea market day, aside from the fact this was the final Saturday ever for Shell Factory Flea Market in North Fort Myers. Shell Factory, a local landmark and tourist destination for visitors and snowbirds had already closed their store, restaurant, and little family fun grounds last month. I will miss the place for sure, as it joins the closure list of great flea markets.

I rolled out of bed and headed there early, expecting a crowd. I say today was exceptional because it was a pinch me am I still dreaming kind of day. Many vendors with vintage and antique tools cheap. Dare I say there were almost too many good deals? I had to pass up some. The crowd was weak for the amount of vendors. Pretty sure the news of the closure and lack of mentioning the separate flea closure threw things off.

I lettered these photos by purchase as it seemed easy to sort today. Apologies for the lighting.

A: Nike pump, Meritor (England) ratcheting screwdriver, Footprint (England) chisel, Craftsman tappet, Husky adjustable.

F: Cornwell black dbe, 3 Plomb pieces: a 3/8 combo, WF 9/32 drive socket, and 3/8 drive screwdriver bit. Other sockets: Chrome X Quality pipe plug, S-K and Walden 3/4 drive, Snap-on deep impact.68C6F8E7-58F2-4AEA-A8FF-A0ED34DC90CD.jpeg
G: Three wrenches for $5. Billings adjustable pin spanner and pocket bicycle wrench, and Barcalo adjustable. Old 3 in 1 oil can, cast steel gouge, Stanley sweetheart hurwood driver. It was funny because a man approached me later in the morning to see if I bought the wrenches. Said he had been waiting for me to put them down.:ROFLMAO: Been there before! We ended up talking and walking around together for a bit. Also told him I’ve stupidly put things down and instantly had them snagged up before too!9A42788E-15FD-4237-B5ED-5CBD48114B25.jpeg

Nike pump,
ABFB9DA4-BA16-463E-88EC-30989C0112E7.jpeg
That pump is a great one to carry around in your gym bag if you are into volleyball or basketball. I had a pair of them when I was coaching, just passed one on to an upcoming VB player, thru her dad

Starrett???,

That looks like the level out of a machinist precision level, length will determine who it goes with, but I'd guess 12", here and following pages: https://archive.org/details/StarrettToolsCatalogNo25/page/n324/mode/1up

Those mostly look like Gravers, for doing metal engraving, one or two big handles can't see the tips to verify

Wet miserable sale this morning, but picked a few items.
Top to bottom (will edit this post later with cleaned pics)
I picked this as I initially thought it was a glove stretcher, and now I'm not so certain.
Small whitworth socket set, frequently see these and not picked one before, the case is in good condition. Thought there were makers marks on it, but possibly just the sizes I will see later.
Small Japanese crowbar...
Edit: Actually very happy with this pick, it's an estwing mp250, the mp250 can be read on the second sticker, though the forged reference is IB250.
I will lose the stickers on the clean up I though, can't see them surviving.

20241027_114351.jpg
And yes, I bought the catspaw partially just to make that joke... Also liked the large end to it. Still has labels, but can't read em yet.
Also added a few more local history books,
20241027_114628.jpg
Top is one I have been keeping my eye open for for quite a while. A DeBúrca edition of Knox's 'history of the county of Mayo' no dust cover sadly, but for my collection that's perfectly fine. Not a particularly expensive book to buy, but I like finding them in the wild.

Yeah, just what I was thinking! At 2 1/4" across the top, it seems kinda narrow too--inside of the turn?

Gotta get to grinding on it. Not sure if I want to spend the time to give it a horn.
If you want to get technical, you'll get the most return on your hammer swings standing it up on end and using the cross section as the face, but that is a bit impractical for a bench anvil and not a huge deal for soft/thin materials. I use a few different pieces of track for copper work laid flat and it works fine.

I would say the juice isn't worth the squeeze grinding out a horn if you have other things you can use to make a curve. I would maybe make one end more rounded, or as Outlaw said, weld something on it.
Even on a larger anvil, it is very common to make various bending/scrolling tools that go in the hardy hole instead of using the horn.

That's a hair curling iron from pre-electric days.
Yep! My old German Oma had one that had wooden handles that had burn marks from heating it on her oil burning kitchen stove. Hers had a double prong that made those tight waves that were so popular in the 1920s.

I haven't thought of a re-purpose use for those as yet.
Hey that style is coming back! You could use it to put that wave in your beard!

Sorry I'm just now catching up on this thread but I'm curious about the handle on ball pein on the far right. I recently picked up a brass ball pein with the same handle. Do you know anything about it? We're the holes for grip?
That is a Hartwell Brothers Vacuum Cup handle.
I believe any careful and motivated person with a drill and the right-shaped bit could make something like it, but that example looks factory-jig-precise to me.
Since it is not exactly like the Vacuum-Grip pattern patented by FSP, I would think there is a design patent for it, but it is surely expired and Hartwell Brothers is out of business.
Maybe @Mark Stansbury had more info - he posted the page that linked to.
I wish I could actually remember the facts - it’s been a few years (2020 or 2021) since I found my first one.

I've seen those handles, both stock and improvised. Very useful when working in wet weather or with very sweaty hands.

As for the "right tools", I think this fits:

Something like that, but on that particular bit the pilot seems too deep and the countersink not quite broad enough.
EDIT - well, the pilot seems about right, but the countersink is proportionately too narrow and steep - minimally, it should be 3/4” dia, and very shallow.
IMG_3682.jpeg
I think a spade bit could be modified easily to this contour.
(Is it wrong to be reminded suddenly of Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo in The 300?)

Couple pickups from today…

Plomb 1/4 box off OfferUp, Craftsman plastic cases from an estate sale, I’m looking forward to filling in the socket set! $21

IMG_7044.jpeg

Also grabbed this beast for $25. I need it like a hole in the head but hoping it’s somewhat rare. Weighs a ton! That’s why it’s still in my rig😂

IMG_7043.jpeg
A $25 519x series is a heck of a find! Especially that size. Cheapest I ever paid was $60

Not much out there this weekend, of the two estate sales that listed tools that I went to neither one had anything I was interested in that catagory, but I did manage too pick up a few things:
54094991127_11085ae458_b.jpg
Nice copy of a Hemmingway collection, Singer manual, and a spaetzle press for the wife.

I did, however, manage to find this on Marketplace, and drug it home:
54096117353_8f07d83562_b.jpgUntitled by , on Flickr
And as soon as I got it down in my shop (wife did not want to use it as a bar cart) I turned, slipped, fell and gashed my head. Two hours later I got to leave the emergency room with my head glued shut.

Did you really slip… or did you trip over a leg of that cart?

And if you did trip over the leg… never admit it… your wife will, definitely, say that is why she did not want it as a bar cart.

We were busy yesterday but I spotted a sale in Pinole, CA today that showed a few tools so we checked it out. IMG_6918.jpegI cleaned up one of the Estwing hammers a bit. The other one is in the evaporust.IMG_6929.jpegIMG_6930.jpeg
Some Diamond end nippers IMG_6924.jpeg
IMG_6926.jpeg
Klein and Channellock strippersIMG_6928.jpegIMG_6927.jpeg
The second sale didn’t have any tools but my wife liked these insulators and they were very inexpensive IMG_6931.jpeg

Hope you got by with no concussion BMW!

Cart looks interesting - dimensions?
Cart is 32x32x18. It is a Delta table saw/jointer stand with casters and a dimensional lumber top.

No, I was a few feet away from the cart when it happened. I have issues with my left leg, namely that it doesn't work as fast as my right, and as a consequence of that it is weaker and will, without warning, lock up or "peg leg" on me. Which is what set the whole thing in motion. Wife mostly isn't into the industrial look, as we have a Mission style home.

The soft metal plug in the rail. I think it's a zinc alloy and I'm guessing it was for electrical bonding of the rail sections. Google ain't telling me shite about it.
I tried researching General Electric patents for a while, but there are a lot that do, or might, relate to electric rail systems. Too bad the patent date is right where most of the damage is concentrated on that plug.
Maybe “M…12:81…” or M…12:91…”?

Not really "garage sale"... while Mom was at the hairdresser, I checked out "Habit for Humanity", the local "A-1" parts store, "Goodwill", and then "Serenity House". The parts store stocks Kroil! YAY! Maybe I can get that grinder un-stuck! Also some other doo-dads.
"Habitat for Humanity" surprisingly had nothing I could not live without. "Goodwill" was a wasted trip. "Serenity House" was a bust until I went to the "appliance" section next door and found a green box with some oddball pieces in it. Hoping a fellow GJ member can help me get it completed.

(We found the inky caps on the drive back home.)

So.... Don.... if I immerse that entire box into "Evaporust", will it damage the paint? The bottom is completely rusted - cratered.
Top is so-so. Inside is in fairly good shape.

Sometimes if just the bottom has the worst rust, I pour a layer of evaporust into the box and leave it sit overnight. The evaporust might have a negative effect on the label if the box is completely submerged.

My small local bar boot sale didn't happen on Sunday for some reason, and so I went a few miles to a much bigger one that I don't really like. there's too much plastic junk and clothes. i did get quite a few bits from multiple sellers for very little money though.

Stahlwille 'Motor' DOE 3/8Bs/5/16W x 5/16BS/1/4W.
I can't remember the trade mark of this DOE. 5/8x9/16. The other side is marked 62AF and 56AF i.e. decimal inches. UK Govt 1954.
T Williams thin DOE dual marked BS/W. UK Govt 1962. Cad plated.
Snail Brand DOE. UK Govt 1963. Cad plated.
HM&Co Sheffield thin DOE dual marked BS/W. UK Govt 1969.
King **** thin DOE dual marked BS/W. UK Govt 1968.
Gedore India DOE 9x8mm.
Gedore India DOE 7x6mm.
Elora DOEDOE 4x6BA.

Stahlwille Corona DBE 'Stronger than Any Bolt' 9/16x1/2.
King **** 3/16x1/8 DBE.
Elora DBE 13x12mm.
Duro/Indestro 7x6mm 12pt DBE. Not common in the UK.
Matador 4x6BA DBE. 12pt one end and 6pt the other. I don't think that I have seen that before.
Snap-on 1/4 drive ratchet. Looks well used but still functions fine.
'Walkers' Toffee hammer.
Assorted small Allen keys. Always handy to have.
Halfords Advanced 3/8 drive security T55 and 1 pozi drivers.
Unbranded center punch.
Wera Torx driver.
Unbranded 13mm HSS countersink bit. Looks unused.

Panduit GS2B cable tie puller. I've been looking out for this type of tool for a while (they are silly expensive new) and so very please to pay a guy £2 for it and the Wera Torx driver above.
Unused set of Laser BA DOE spanners covering 0-11BA.
No name 1/4 drive BA sockets on rail covering 0-10BA with no skips. All look unused. I have owned a set of Britool 1/4 drive BA sockets for a long time but it only covers the even numbers plus 1BA. The smaller odd numbers are very rarely used in my experience.

The Snap-on ratchet, the Laser BA spanners, BA sockets some of the other spanners were in a nice looking plastic small Curver tool box. As I was looking at the ratchet, the seller said "I'm not splitting the box and contents. I want £2 for the lot". How could I refuse? Some of the contents went straight into the bin when I got home, but hey!

I think that my total expenditure for the day was about £7.

The HM&Co Sheffield thin DOE above was made by Harris Miller & Co. They were cutlers and won UK Govt contracts for, amongst other things, their 'Thrift' range of stainless steel cutlery which was widely used in government establishments including the forces and prisons.

Some interesting history of the firm can be found here: https://hawleysheffieldknives.com/n-fulldetails.php?val=m&kel=520

but what is the little squiggly logo on that unit on the left?
The 'Crows Foot' or 'Broad Arrow' is the UK Govt property mark. The trade mark is to the left and is a stylised knot in rope with an initial in each of the three loops. The initials appear to be VWF but I can't remember whose trade mark it is.
