Couple more questions - Wright vs Proto

Looking at Wright vs Proto metric combination wrenches, the 7-19 set from Proto is around $100 more that the Wright. Both are fully polished. I'm looking at MSC for Proto and Royal Supply for Wright. The socket sets are very close in price. I did notice that the Wright's do not have the "WrightDrive" on the metric wrenches. Is this the reason for the price difference or is there something else? Is the "WrightDrive" that big of a deal? Will it be offered on the Metric wrenches in the future?

Does your company buy from MSC? If so you may be able to use their discount on MSC's employee purchase program. It is where you use your credit card to buy it, but because you are affiliated with your company you get their discount. MSC is not the cheapest on all things, but they do beat a lot of other vendors. Their price on Kennedy is not cheap, but I've contacted my company's saleperson and ask them to do a price match and reference the other vendor's info (usually with a link to their website/listing) and MSC has so far matched the low price.

The company I work for gets anywhere from 10 to 20% off from catalog price, which then translates to me.

I'm with you. If it's something specific I need I'll order from them, but I'll generally wait until they offer the once in a blue moon free shipping on all orders, which is usually a one day offer.

As far as the special Drive being offered. I wouldn't worry too much about that. I've never had a problem with basic plain-jane 12 point box-end and the basic open-end on combo wrenches. They've served me well for years (decades) and I never stripped a nut or bolt head when using the correct sized wrench, unless the fastener was badly rusted or corroded. Tool companies need to constantly come up with some gimik or marketing thing to keep selling tools.

I think they call it "WrightGrip" in the open end. I've been drooling over a set of these for a while.
