I tried researching General Electric patents for a while, but there are a lot that do, or might, relate to electric rail systems. Too bad the patent date is right where most of the damage is concentrated on that plug.
Maybe “M…12:81…” or M…12:91…”?

I hit an absolute wall searching for anything railroad related and GENELEC. But I did confirm that it's probably a bonding plug as I thought. Seems modern ones are welded onto the web of the rail.

Whoever installed it certainly didn't care about someone trying to research it a hundred years later!

^ but it's just a wee bit different. Looks like your Tyre logo has "squigglies" instead of the initials "V. B. W."

Clearer image might help.. I enlarged it as much as I could and the resolution suffered.

So as I usually do I decided to check marketplace to find a Chapman screwdriver set for $10 (nearly $50 for a new set not counting tax and shipping. They asked if I could come over right over so within a moments notice I'm on the road. It was a couple that was downsizing to a smaller place. They had a table setup and some random boxes on the ground filled with tools. Perfect since I figured they would have more tools from the other listings they had. Apparently they were selling for a week already so who know what I missed. They also had a couple other smoking deals but only brought so much cash. I ended up with the Chapman set for $10 and the Bondhus ball end set for $10. The box of random tools I paid $60 so out the door I spent $80. I'm well pleased with everything. All good USA made tools (brand new Klein cutter, Proto, Armstrong, Williams, Craftsman, etc). Quite a few misc. tools I was already thinking of buying or would be nice to have.

This weekend my son and I ventured out to a MVPA swap meet event here in Portland Oregon. There wasn't much for vehicles or parts but there was a whole lot of good stuff. Some we purchased and some was a bit over our price range. But the main thing is we had fun and bought a bunch of cool stuff!

-1951 dated blanket in good shape- $25 (my son uses a war time one on his bed in the winter and this will be a good back up)
- free warbird and GCA magazines
- $10 Sgt Rock comic in good shape. How can you talk military/heroes with out the Rock coming up in coversation?
- $80 German ww1 shell. My son and I will repaint it in a ww1 camouflage coloring. We watch you tube videos of guys restoring helmets and have wanted to try our hand at it. Should be a good father/son project that he will hopefully cherish for years to come
- odd hybrid ww1/ww2 canteen. ww1 pattern but dated 1942. It's an odd variation I dont have so I had to get it.
-Unused German ww2 tunic patch , ww2 army air corps patches $30
-vietnam ? era helmet, liner and cover $40 (liner is dated 56 but has the more modern suspension system
- Hungarian helmet, german m42 variant $30. Again we will repaint this to be a camouflage helmet that would be much more expensive if we purchased a real helmet
- 1918 dated canteen cover with canteen cup $5
-ww2 ammo box $15
-ww1 gas mask bag with mask inside. The canister is gone and the mask is very brittle but the bag is in good shape so I paid $10.
-gpw NOS gasket set- Ford marked- $40
- 2 machetes- 1 true temper marked with war time date and another **Collins Legitimus* with an odd leather sheath. No dates on this one but I need to research it more.

Needless to say, the shelf I built him is now full and I need to add onto it :) But he was excited and we spent about 3 hours there. He already wants to go to the next one!

Here is a picture of both my spanners and a close up of the TM on the larger one. They are both the same and both are VBW. The quality of the forging makes the TM a bit fuzzy especially on the smaller spanner.

ahhh! okay! I was seeing something completely different!

that's curious, as that "fork" thingie is Tyres' logo, and the ornate "VBW" is Vaughan's logo.... so... who was making what for whom?

The 'fork thingy' is the UK Govt property mark. Known as the Crows Foot or Broad Arrow it was applied to all govt property from pencils to parts of battleship 16" guns. In most cases the date of manufacture was also present e.g. 1954 on my two spanners. What is slightly unusual is that with these two spanners the broad arrow and date are part of the forging. Usually, the broad arrow and date was stamped in after the tool was fully finished.

I was looking at a few things I don't need in the garage at an Estate sale this weekend. I guess there wasnt much interest in these as the lady running the sale said they wont cost me much. I figured I could take the motors off and for $30 I bought 2 things I dont need. Looks like a cheese grader and a pasta machine.1000020760.jpg1000020761.jpg1000020762.jpg1000020763.jpg

WAAAAAY back in college I worked at an Italian restaurant, and I had to pull a boat load of fresh pasta every afternoon. I remember the dies on the pasta machine had to be boiled to work right, and were expensive as all get out to replace.

Hit some estate sales this weekend, some good deals but kind of slim pickings.

Got a backpack of odds and ends tackle for $10. A few floats worth saving but a whole board of hand tied jigs (on decent jig heads).
1000001770-01.jpeg

Got a Shoot the Moon game (1959 version), a Hubble plug, new looking corona trowel and anti slip mat for another $10.
1000001771-01.jpeg

Last but not least... we stopped by 2 Goodwill's on the way home, second one had a little treasure hiding on the bottom shelf with labels facing in. A full Mityvac MV6842 with all the accessories still intact for $20. I blushed a bit when I looked up the retail on this later.

I found this in a shed on my wife's family property. It appears to be made of bronze, and is 6-3/4" wide. The round pocket is 1-3/8" inside diameter, and it is 2-3/8" from the top down to the cross pin.

Probably boating related. An oarlock mount? I can't find anything like it online.

woo hoo, here is one where FBMP came through for me. I was scrolling through FB while sorta watching TV last night, and saw a FBMP link pop up showing a Remline tool chest, REAL close by. It had apparently had the price reduced to a level that I thought was worth it, texted the owner, offering to pick it up last night or today. They replied later, said this morning was fine, we determined a meet up, and I went off to bed. After my morning mtg, I headed up to the pick up location, and they were a no show. Texted a few times, and headed off. Half way home they replied, turned around and went back. Turns out they were mid move, and watched a certain baseball game last night, staying up late celebrating, and overslept. No harm from here.

They had the box I wanted sitting out, and two others with it. I replied I had no more money with me, but was interested in them. "No, please take them. We need to get them out of the way", pay for one, get three extras. OK, if you insist.

So I got the Remline Pro, as shown below. In real life, it looks Much Bigger than the picture, even though she had listed dimensions. It was very clean, relative to most toolboxes I've bought. A little vacuuming, a little Simple Green, a bit of fingernail work to remove spots, and it is clean enough to bring into the house. I cleaned the exterior, the top section under the lid, and the included tool tray. The rest of the drawers will need to come out, have their slides cleaned, and a good wipedown. There is a little paint lost on the back edges of the lid, probably from rubbing on the wall when opened. And its really dang heavy too.

Based on the Remline thread, it appears to be an 11010 top box, newer vintage (plastic emblem, not sure the handles are metal, etc), with the big top center drawer. This will probably replace an overstuffed Kennedy 526, using the vertical space better, as well as increased front to back storage, and bigger spaces. 26 1/8" Wide, 20 1/2" tall, 13"Deep

PXL_20241031_161828664-X2.jpg

The second box was at first glance a Waterloo, based on the dimples on the lock area. Looking closer, I saw it said Lumidor Industrial.
According to the seller, it came to them from the engine room of a tugboat they had bought. This box has had a much rougher life than the Remline, with the lid caved in a bit, the dividers bent a little, some paint loss, and of course, some rust. For Free, I won't care much. It is a heavy beast as well, not sure where this one will go yet. (Besides in the "boxes needed work" queue.) 26" W, 15-1/2" Tall, 12" Deep

PXL_20241031_161219054-X2.jpg

The last two boxes, listed here for reference only, a small unmarked red hand carry box, with a tool tray, and a black plastic craftsman box with just an open space, no dividers for sockets, analytical tools, etc.

Not a bad start to a weekend's tool hunting. Also the only decent score for the last several weeks, so that helps average out the cost, even the pain up a bit  .

It's been one hell of a month for finding things for me. Won this lift for $160 total in this week's on line sale. I thought it was two hours away but the auction had the locations mixed and it turned out to be 4 1/2 hours. Still worth it though. already sold it for $750.
