There was a fairly interesting looking estate sale near me, so ran out there this AM

It wasn't as interesting as the photos looked, at least not from what I like to find. But some treasures followed me home: Stanley Sweethart driver, Armstrong L wrench, Chromium Vanadium breaker, pocket rev counter and Schrade 152. Now, I am not a knife guy, but I was sure it would be worth more than I paid for it, but, it turns out, just barely. So, got that going for me. After that, I swung by my man Abe's bookstore with a bunch of books for him, and I picked up this book on naval warfare from 1902.

Here is a closeup of the rev counter, which is todays find:

AC is the only marking on it, other than the window(!) for the revolutions to be relayed.

Found a decent estate sale on my way to work this morning and picked up a decent haul for 20 bucks.
4” vice grips and crescent wrench, full set of crown top metric ignition wrenches, full set of artisan combo wrenches, artisan pliers, a cool cigar box full of sockets, a parts cabinet with a lifetime supply of cotter pins, and an older xacto knife set.

Slacking a bit so here are some sale finds from last weekend.
New Bait cooler, lead weights, USA Cman sockets, SK Cman and proto wrenches, with Diamalloy pliers.

1000001792-01.jpeg

This next one was 75% day which is kind of rare for estate sale companies around here. Nicholson (and a few Lenox) USA files, a Disston no4 handle on one of the files, PowrKraft 3/8 ratchet, Stanley 28-109 slim knife.
1000001793-01.jpeg

Waterloo box, various bags of hardware up to about 3/8in.
1000001804-01.jpeg

Mostly AL rivets, few Hanson countersinks, mixed drill bits (mostly USA Cman but some other junk), couple step bits.
1000001805-01.jpeg

Coleman propane lantern.
1000001807-01.jpeg

Also a 2ftx3ft craft cutting mat and a large desk chair mat. Favorite finds of the day were the files for a quarter or two, the Stanley slim knife, Disston file handle and the countersinks. Total damage for the day was just over $100

It could well be a Cat wrench, but it was made by Armstrong:

Lebanon. So, only if you are going to see your grandparents. I will be heading to Gladstone today, as she does 1/2 off on second day usually, and it was a bit far for a weekday trip as I have too much to do right now. Also, going to do some trading with our mutual friend this afternoon.

Casual solo stop at the Weil Antiques Center parking lot flea market left me $8 lighter, with a No1S&H nail puller, Bonney stamped steel 3/8x7/16 No120 DOE, Bonney war-era stubbie, and a 1930 collection of Joseph Addison’s Sir Roger de Coverley Papers edited by Howard Bement.

Some good finds this week.

This SK lot from eBay for $35 or so. Two 40970 1/4 drive diamond logo ratchets. One of them is the cadmium wartime finish. Also included in the lot is a 1/4 thumbwheel ratchet and a small lot of 1/4 sockets (one cadmium finish as well)
DE05D263-7B98-4092-A626-7798E689C09F.jpeg

Next up is a Gearwrench fan clutch removal tool set. A little dusty on the outside, but the tools themselves look new. $55

And while I was out picking up the Gearwrench fan clutch tools, I stopped at the nearest ReStore and came away with all this for $9.75.
A Kraeuter 3/8 drive ratchet with a suspiciously familiar drive mechanism (looks like SK) 17MM Armstrong combination wrench, 15MM MAC combination wrench, Craftsman P0 driver, Craftsman Pro bit driver handle and Craftsman 9MM, 11MM, 12MM and 17MM 3/8 drive 6pt sockets.

Not really a garage sale find, but it was a couple "used" finds. I am always on the lookout for Xcelite oddities. As best as I can figure, Xcelite would make anything a client wanted. But they would usually mark them with "STXXXX" numbers. "Specialty Tool" maybe? Anyhow, I am always looking for these. I found an extra-long Philips #0, Marked ST70-496 pictured next to a common P-12-S pocket-clip Philips #0:

20241109_141846.jpg
Then I found a ST66-376, which appears to be a Philips #2, but somebody must have needed one with a length halfway between a common X1020 and a X102 (and wanted a blue handle too):
20241109_141227.jpg
I'm disappointed that the handle is messed up, but I just had to get it, lol. It's an ST, and it's an odd color, I'm all about it.

Decided to take a chance on a sale with no pictures that was about 40 minutes away. They advertised vises and anvils. The anvil was a very beat Vulcan for $500. They did have this 6” Athol for $400. I thought about making an offer but decided I didn’t need another vise I can’t lift easily alone. I walked away with this decent Littlestown 25 for $10.

You guys are doing Great!

Very slow day today -walked the collage FM 2X (got there early) and left with nothing I didn't walk in with. Shortage of Weekend warriors too. 3 planned yard sales, minimal there too but I did manage to spend 7-1/2 bucks total. The TOOs were drive bys.

First "producing" YS: I think the bronze "tools" are sculpting tools? and a Mini whisk broom. that's headed for camp gear. A buck each:

Y1-Sculpting-adn-mini-wisk.jpg

And from their Free Pile - Mostly "Supplies" but a rusty multi bit driver tool that may be for clock work - I'll know more after de-rusting, and a double end driver, the tiny DOE is Vlchek and was in the box of rust. brass handle. NOS nickle plated Clevis, Bearing on a stud - That cleaned up nicely later, a Cable cuff, I use these a lot; Electrical parts, aluminum stock and some brackets of some sort, also aluminum.

Y1a-Free.jpg

Second yard sale - Cedar strip canoe model. For cents 50, I'll put it up in the hallway with the "fishing" stuff

Y2-Canoe-1.jpg

Y2-Canoe-2.jpg

Last stop, A 1/4" Xcelite nut driver with a 17" shank, a small, likely Craftsman mini Driver, no markings but...
, and some heavy magnet wire. $4 all:

We checked out some sales close to home this morning. First was a yard sale a few blocks from home. I passed on Starrett calipers autographed by a previous owners but picked up a small bookcase for displaying tools in the basement. IMG_7122.jpeg
Next was an El Cerrito estate which was more to our liking. Some tools for me and a couple of Tepco China pieces that my wife collects. She also grabbed a folding yardstick. IMG_7108.jpeg
Proto Mfd long combosIMG_7118.jpeg
Craftsman =v= toolsIMG_7120.jpeg
Pexto squareIMG_7117.jpeg
Stanley levelIMG_7116.jpeg
Wards Master 25/32” socketIMG_7112.jpeg
Mystery DOE wrench IMG_7127.jpeg
Peterson Vise GripsIMG_7114.jpeg
Wards Eclipse kit wrench, first one I’ve seenIMG_7109.jpeg
The final sale didn’t have any tools but my wife found her third piece of Tepco of the day.

Here are her Tepco finds. IMG_7123.jpeg
The small bowl on the right was the pattern used on Liberty and other ships produced in the WW2 Richmond shipyards. The business was based in El Cerrito.
Here is the folding yardstick from a bank in CT that was bought out in 1983. IMG_7124.jpegIMG_7125.jpegIMG_7126.jpeg
I found a matchbook listed on eBay from the same bank.IMG_5180.jpeg

Here is my canoe found at a Stateline sale in 2023. It is now cabin art. IMG_9395.jpeg

I think we have the same canoe! your's has the paddles - what are the 2 sticks?

Being raised on board a sailboat leaves one a bit pedantic.

Totally get it.

picked up a small bookcase for displaying tools in the basement.
IMG_7122.jpeg

That looks stout!

Next was an El Cerrito estate which was more to our liking.

Nice haul!

So speaking of that Gladstone sale Bmw and I were referencing... I get the estate sale weekly emails with sale previews and happend to see this particular sale. Since it's right down the street from my work, I hit the sale on my lunch. Yeah it was opening day for the sale and of course my inner cheapo was protesting opening day since that means prices are full sticker price and also dont have any wiggle room. But my adventurous spirit and the rusty gold I could see in the photos won out so I proceeded to the dimly lit garage with reserved enthusiasm. I immediately noticed several well priced items and started assembling a hold pile much to the chagrin of my wallet :). I spent my entire lunch going through bins of rusty gold but found some good discoveries I think. As I was rifling through the garage, some guy walks up to the hold table and goes " who's pile is this? man whoever's this is has all the good stuff"....I smiled and told him it was mine.

- late 40's craftsman 3 drawer "trunk corner" top chest. Looks rough but is actually really solid. mixture of filthy and has surface rust but the drawers and slides are great so I was in for $45! Will look really cool cleaned up and covered in blo.
-Craftsman metric large size metric combos in wrench roll for $50. Couldn't believe no one picked this up before me but I have actually been wanting to find larger metric wrenches!
- craftsman rallye carry box. absolutley hideous but it's going to a local friend $10.
- Craftsman metric and SAE tap and die set...missing a few of the smaller taps but pretty much unused- Paid $55 but cant even touch a cheap **** import set for that much. I think it's late 80's based on the color of the box.

-long c tools - $1 each, including the 4" vanadium adjustable. Also stoked on the offset wrenches. I never have found any in the wild even if they are a bit rough

-various proto la and proto mfd wrenches- $1 each. The little guys are hard to find as we know!
- marvel mystery oil can...5 digit zip code so not super old but still a cool can
- found an actual piece of p&c metric- rough doe but you dont find metric like this, even in the backyard of the factory.
-plomb amber handle driver in decent shape

@Private Lugnutz I maybe cracked the code on a long-lasting puzzle, today: who made these delightful basket-weave-grip dikes?
CAM-RON, Emporium PA! (Cute, because Emporium is in Cameron County PA.)
I have not found any company info yet, but there is a pair of these on Worthpount, and a few other types of pliers (marked CAM-RON USA) on eBay.

From yesterday's picks above the " rusty multi bit driver tool that may be for clock work " Guess was good! It is a "clock unwinder" and came with 6 double end bits for square drive sizes; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12. 14, & 16.

The before pic. up close:

clock-unwinder-befor.jpg

And After de-rusting the bits, and mineral oil on the grip handle:

Clock-unwinder.jpg

Got a couple of Coo-Coo clocks that need work, so it may come in handy.

And I added to my budding Indestro socket set, I'm building both SAE and Metric - I received the 10-19MM sockets this past week. I already had an 8MM so i'l be watching for a 9MM just for the OCD of it. These metric have the knurled markings, the SAE, 2 of the largest shown, have the twin grooves, so it will be easier to keep them separate.

I'm still hunting for the 1/4" sockets both SAE and MM, but I have the paddle grip breakers and ratchets for both 1/4 & 3/8, including a swivel head 3/8 already, either Indestro marked or Indestro made and Wizard marked.

I'll probably have to leave out of this brass box the wrenches and have a second box for those, once I find the 1/4" drive sockets.

Why Indestro? I like the paddle drive tools, and wanted the sockets to match as this era Indestro drive tools were excellent quality.
