Air tool parts?

I have a Mac 1/4" air ratchet purchased new back in the early 90's. The top plastic screw thingy is leaking air. If I remember correctly it is either slightly stripped or a hairline crack. But I think it is only that black plastic screw that is the issue. I am looking to find opinions on the best place to find parts for things like this. Any recommendations? Keep in mind, I do not have a Mac dealer, but if that would be the best option, I guess I can find one. Thanks.

Nothing popped up in your post. I did search, but I prefer opinions from people that actually had good experiences with a source.

What is the part number? Maybe somebody can track down an exploded view of the assembly. When you confirm the part in question you might be able to either find the part number or the equivalent from the OEM, because I doubt MAC made their own.

The best source might depend on the OEM

If you can't find parts there, you may need to dig a bit and find out if it was made by Astro P, Chicago P, etc.

Unfortunately, there are no numbers of any kind on here. If I'm not mistaken, I think it was made by IR. Mac's impact wrenches from that era were usually made by IR, so I'm thinking this was the same scenario.

Literally the first search on eBay popped up an identical air ratchet, MAC AR2865 (made by Astro Pneumatic). If that flathead plug/cover is what you're looking for, it isn't shown as available.

Get. A piece of nylon or other plastic rod, or even a bolt or dowel of the same diameter and run a die over it to make your own piece.

The tough part will be figuring out what thread it is, but I suspect it’s a metric straight thread and they used the plastic to give an interference thread.

Thread sealer or some type of Permatex might seal it.

On the other hand it may just be a dirt cover and the air is leaking because the air valve or internal o rings are bad.

There should be parts diagrams online, There are also air tool rebuilders out there.
