It looks like a tensioner of some sort.

Almost looks like a gear drive for a big chain like we would use to push heavy cases of product around (the big toothed side goes to the product chain). Ours were all roller chain drive, not gear drive tho

2052 could be the type of roller chain that fits the gear. My W.A.G. is part of a hay elevator chain drive.

Hanging in the barn, good hint right there. I was thinking the larger toothed sprocket held chain links while the smaller was for a ratcheting mechanism

You got it backwards, unless you’re referencing the tooth size, and not the circumference of the gears.
