Only one sale today worth the effort. Tools were priced oddly and mostly high--like whoever was pricing seemed to base it upon the size and their limited knowledge of a tool's function. Brand names did not factor into it--see photo. A cheesy half-filled Chinesium socket set was $28.
Nov 22 24.jpg

I tossed the stamped wrench back into the bin.
Checking the Snap-on, I noticed the ratcheting only worked in one direction--and I tried! I told the agent who couldn't get it to work either and he said how about $2? I countered with half that and walked out with my $1 prize. It's soaking now but I'll open it up later and see what the issue may be.

I think I went to that same sale. Too pricey, but that didn't stop me from over-paying for a late-30s None Better S53 1/2" breaker and the beatup late-50s Blackhawk tool box you likely noticed and decided was overpriced (it was, but I've outgrown my current 'Blackhawk' box).

Estate sale ($80): Two nested kokoshi dolls; Marcato pasta roller w/ 2 attachments; Fenton coral hobnail syrup jug (1961-1962); Farmers Co-operative promotional Dial Level; SK/Duro/Indestro/GM wrenches; Thorsen sockets; Disston D8 crosscut saw; SK sockets; Hamilton Bell no. 1210 Student Organic Structure Set; Philips VRB411AT22 VCR/DVD player and recorder w/remote.

Pretty much skunked last week and had to lean back into sockets just to fill the bag this week.

Looks like the SK box is a pretty full set and then some?

Some extras but needs some drive pieces to complete. IMG_7068.jpeg

Ahhh the labor that binds the GJ community together. I heard that in a mountain far away, all SK sets are complete, and there's a lake of stew and of whiskey too and you can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe. So I'll see all this comin' fall in the Garage Journal SK Mountain.

I hit an estate sale this morning and grabbed an old baking sheet (for working on oily/greasy things-keeps it contained), a crusty Vise Grip, a Pli-Rench by Whale Tool Corp., Klein linesman pliers, and a Stanley USA SAE 3/8" set (missing one socket and likely the wrong ratchet-HUSKY?). I pondered the Blackhawk floor jack and asked for a price he said $50. I asked about the Delta bench grinder with it's original stand and he also said $50 or $100 for everything. I countered at $75 and he said maybe tomorrow but I can't go then. I ended up paying $90 for it all. The Delta works nicely but needs a new plug or maybe I should just replace the whole wire.

Was able to hit the 3 day,50% off day of a local estate sale. They had some of the worst hours available for a sale 10am -3pm ,no suprise many tools still there. Prices were higher than I hoped but pulled this stuff together . I tried unsucessfully to convince the gruff guy in the garage that 3 of the wrenches in the zip tie bundle belonged in one of the sets, so I had to purchase them separately in order to reunite them where they belong.
Craftsman 9-4984 7 Piece Box end wrench set “Super -Tuff” 1/4” to 1”
Craftsman 9-4452 9 piece Double Open end wrench set “Super -Tuff” 1/4” to 1-1/8”

Loose wrenches:
Craftsman 1/4”,3/8”,10mm,3@7/16” combination
Craftsman 1/2” x 9/16” dbe
Craftsman 3/4” x 7/8” offset dbe

Easco 7/16” x 1/2” doe

6 inch magnetic hex bit holder

Went to a sale this morning, most of the tools were gone but there was a lot of hardware to pick through. Got all of this for 6 bucks! (First two pics) The guy was pretty organized.

I have the aluminum baking trays from very small to 4-5 at 18X24. Those larger ones I also use as table tops for camping on top of Coleman stove stands. Very handy, pack compactly, and light.

I just got back from the one local Estate sale and it was more of a **** pile for a move out sale. Nada of interest.

Hey there, Garage Sale host checking in, just looked at the calendar, and realized the end of the year is nigh. Looks like someone needs to tally up the ***** (god you've all been really easy this year, I may have to invoke an extra power source to get a computer with enough power), and determine picker of the year, and start voting for next year's host. Stay tuned, more to come.

Put your thinking caps on.

IRQVET--giant **** for that Craftsman middle box. I know from my own experience that a stand-alone mid box is extremely hard to find. Missing pulls shouldn't be a problem. Nice shape at a killer price.

Yep. Saw them both. We need to wear a feather or an armband so we recognize one another!

I was a late arrival on Friday for this 3-day sale that promised "a garage loaded with tools" backed up with some promising pictures. A lot of the pictured items were gone but I noticed a spackle bucket full of hand saws. I paid little attention at first but saw an interesting handle poking out--attached to a Disston 26" 5PPI finger hole rip saw. Blade darkened with age but no rust and handle in excellent un-abused shape--$5.00. Any other PNW guys catch this one in SE Portland?

I hit that sale around noon today, and the Goodell Pratt boxed push drill that I hoped would still be there was gone, along with anything else I might be interested in. But, I did see a coyote in the park down the street. So, I got that at least.

Thursday my wife and I had errands to run in the nearby city. Our daughter had noticed an estate sale that she thought might interest us, so we checked it out along our way. It was the first day of a three-day sale, so the pricing was firm. My wife found two Aycock knives. She started buying them 50 years ago, and they haven't been made in years. For a dollar each, she was very pleased!

The tools were in a fabric-covered temporary garage that was very poorly lit. Other than tossing similar items in some open bins, it was very disorganized. I had to do a lot of digging. I had to make several passes through the place, finding something every time.

Baldor 1.jpgBaldor 2.jpg
I passed by this Baldor 612 grinder twice before I spotted it. It was in a deep shadow and covered with dirt. The fact that it had all the guards and tool rests caught my eye. I was able to plug it in and test it, which it passed with flying colors!

Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you. I had high hopes for today, as I had three good looking sales to hit, and some business in Portland. So, I did the Portland sale first, and worked my way home. WRONG! My timing was off for all of them, and I came home with most of my money. Nothing at the first stop, which is the one Tom Bell talks about above, the second I found a few small things, but missed by minutes a Kennedy roller filled with machining tooling for $100. And the last stop had been cleaned out of the interesting garage things. Oh well, it happens. But here is the little I did get:
54160631239_1ea341194c_b.jpg
Millers Falls nail set, Cleveland drift, (3) Starrett pin punches, homemade reamer, (5) Starrett and B&S scales, piece of HHS, a 24" Starrett satin chrome scale, and on the right a flat head screw hex driver. $9

But I did some trading with Smokeshow in Portland, and now I am the possessor of the Blackhawk roller he found last week. No pics, as you have all seen it before by now.

We went to the third day of a four day tool heavy estate sale, not wanting to brave the heavy rain the last couple of days. There were a few things left of interest. IMG_7526.jpeg
Some pretty nice Thorsen tools.IMG_7528.jpeg
Square drive Xcelite drivers
IMG_7535.jpeg
Vaco screw starterIMG_7539.jpeg
Channellock end cutters that cleaned up pretty wellIMG_7533.jpegIMG_7546.jpeg
I was able to replenish my almost empty deck screw boxIMG_7548.jpeg
A Powr-Kraft clutch head driverIMG_7537.jpegIMG_7538.jpeg

The second sale in Vallejo advertised Tools, Tools, Tools but when we arrived an hour after opening time they were closed, closed, closed. One of my pet peeves. We settled for a scenic drive around the closed down Mare Island navy facility and headed home.

me either and I am wondering what the TM on that "Scrulox" might be - doesn't show up at AA
Apparently Robertson's: Google shows a couple of mentiones:

NOTE: Roberts Head screwdrivers and screws are also known as Scrulox™ type. Scrulox™ is a registered trademark of the Robertson Mfg. Co. in Canada
