Starting a thread on our barndominium using an existing pad and septic tank. Framing started this week so I thought I would start the thread now. Updates to follow

My wife and I bought 9.5 acres on two lots with one lot having an existing 46x64 pad with septic. We decided to sell our house to fund the build of a 48x64 pole barn with a 10x64 carport on the back and 20x48 living space on two floors. Framing should be complete this week with steel going up next week. Plumbing will start this week or next. kids with framing.jpg

You are lucky that you are dealing with Hamilton County, Butler County is the worst even out in the country. Just my experience dealing with both.

We are actually in Brown County and its been pretty easy except for that one inspector everyone has issues with(if you know who I mean, the one that got put in the hospital, fired from a neighboring county, and sued multiple times)

Brown County, lucky guy. I haven't had any issues with the inspectors themselves, it's the way the building department operates. You have no contact with the inspector until he/she arrives on site. Entering the Building Dept. office you come to a counter staffed by women who will only tell you to fill out forms and leave a check for your permits. No questions answered and no other interaction.

The wife and I are considering doing the exact same thing, I think the hardest part for us will be finding the right property.

Did you build this so only entrance to house is through garage? Just curious.

Otherwise looks great! Nice work. On my radar, though drawn to quonset huts also.

Here is the entry into the living area, the man door into the house is in the bottom right corner of this interior picture.

I've moved your thread to the Garage Gallery section. It's the more appropriate section and will probably see more light here.

Interesting build.

I noticed the building size and concrete pad sizes were slightly different. Was this done for setting the posts ?

Yes sir, builder decided to set posts next to existing pad. The picture below shows the dirtier existing pad with block perimeter and fresh concrete poured to make the building larger than the pad. That block perimeter was damaged by water and trees for about 20% of the length, during the build we found the pad is about 20 years old1000007919.jpg

Ive been busy finishing the upstairs, about 95% done just missing a few pieces of trim. The outdoors pictures show the progress Ive been making, that's the same spot 1 year apart, all done with a 10 year old walk behind DR Power brush hog00d76d44-092d-4a4f-b645-e5ff93d65f80.jpgae391441-6568-4a1b-899c-f0e424205c78.jpg
