Is there a difference in brands for 20 amp outlet/receptacles ? These will be installed in my garage, and yes I know I will need at least one GFCI per circuit.

The big names are probably about equal but they all have different grades: residential, spec, hospital, etc. For a home shop, residential would probably be fine, but spec (commercial) grade is better. I use P&S Legrand because that's what is easiest for me to get. And you don't need 20 amp devices, 15 amp duplex devices on a 20 amp circuit is fine the guts are the same.

The labeling is Tamper Resistant (TR) and the high quality receptacles are much better than the cheap ones.
Let’s not forget "outdoor" receptacles (AKA: Weather Resistant) that have a WP label on them……. They also come in TR/WRratings. GFI receptacles that are installed outdoors must be WR.

I bought Leviton TR receptacles that were about $1.30 at Home Depot in 2014. They said they were made in the USA, and they work great. I replaced every receptacle in my house since most were worn out. I have only had issues inserting plugs a handful of times since then.

Shocking ! Still $1.50 !! Decors are $2.65.
The point of my post was that paying a bit more for tamper proof receptacles gets you better receptacles. These were most definitely not the cheapest TR receptacles available in 2014. A cheap homebuilder could have saved $25 to $50 on a by using the cheapest TR receptacles.

A bit off topic, but my brother built a day care in his basement just before TR receptacles became mandatory. He used them anyhow as otherwise every receptacle had to have a child resistant plug in it. It would have been a pain to constantly be removing and inserting the plugs.
