I was in beautiful downtown Sequim with some time to kill, so I stopped at one of the local thrift shops

Lectrolite 8-inch slip joint pliers

"Sav O Nut" aluminum alloy propane tank wrench (7/8" across the flats) patent 5303619 Apr 19 1994 issued to Wilbur C. Cole of Kissimmee FL for "Wrench Assembly for Propane Tanks and Gas Grills"
(no assignee, no idea who actually manufactured it. not listed at datamp.org first one I've ever seen.)
(The patent drawing and the description of some features claimed in the patent document do not fully align with the actual article.)

WALD Mfg. Co. (Maysville KY) 5-in stamped bicycle wrench (* VERY similar to a model made by Weber-Knapp * )

Barcalo 5/16" x 11/32" "deco" style DOE (because no Barcalo gets left behind, right?)

spent a whopping $5.99

The good news is that I am on the board with this morning's trip to the flea market [Lugz 2025_02]. The bad news is that it's way too early in the year for me to be thinking about how hard it's going to be to beat this find! A "Lincoln Tunnel" litho tin wind-up toy from the 1940's. Not on a $1 table, but not the $75 to $500 range these things go for online, either! Close-ups and discussion (including some Euclidean geometry, seriously) on the Lugzsonian thread later!

I'm not sure if they are or not.
They DO seem to have a "middle" position, but it feels a bit sketchy. I should try it after I clean the gick out of the pivot point (grease or some kind of goo is making it "sticky".) I've never owned a "three position" pair so I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Let me get a photo of it after I get them cleaned up.

And no.... NBLB ... guess where this one will be headed in the future?

I hit up the first flea market of the year and did ok. Dropped 20 bucks on a box full of 1/4” drive stuff and some oldies.
-Plomb LA stud puller, double square socket, calif tools combo and a Bog extension?
- an unmarked 1/2 male to male extension. the groove makes me think it was part of a sliding t.
-Double handful of craftsman sockets and extensions
-Snap On and proto philips sockets
- thorsen 1/4” ratchet
-6” heller master wrench
- And the bell of the ball, a “chrome alloy“ beavertail ratchet. No sk or artisan markings.

HAHA! No. It was made in the Good Ol' (by a Newark, NJ based toymaker with a showroom in NYC), if that's your implication. Well, before the Hong Kong toy invasion. But take a good look at the toy and think about it. There is no there there. There literally is no tunnel. And the implied imaginary tunnel would have to be a circle, not a line! More (and much more than you probably want to read...) here.

My wife and I are coming up on 20 years of marriage. We still use the Pfaltzgraff set that we got when we were married as our daily dinnerware. The pattern (Orleans) was discontinued ages ago. Pfaltzgraff is/was stupidly expensive, considering it isn't fine China.

Over the years, we've broken some pieces and replaced them (eBay). We need to refresh some missing (broken) pieces again.

Our boys do the dishes (dishwasher), and our youngest (14) has a nasty, seemingly unbreakable habit of slamming them together as he's putting the clean ones away. Of the remaining set, at least a quarter of them are chipped.

The other unfortunate thing about Pfaltzgraff is that it's stoneware, and shows every scratch any utensil has ever made on it. I made the mistake of scrambling eggs with a fork in one of the bowls once, and was horrified when I saw the marks left behind.

This morning, we were discussing replacing the whole set with something new. I'm trying to push for Corelle, even if we have to buy new ones, because unless you drop them, they're pretty resistant to breakage, and would probably survive the football player's rough treatment...

We have a tile kitchen floor, which is completely unforgiving when you drop anything, so I'm not looking for unbreakable (plastic), just something that'll not chip as easily.

we save the china and nicer dishes for holidays/company and have been using these cheap plastic plates/bowls from Target for daily meals. They go in the dishewasher great, don't chip or break,and we've saved a ton on paper plates. Just after Super Bowl last year I bought a 12 place set for my friends rental cottages( we go up SB weekend for a fun time) the cottages are rented all summer and dish breakage/chipping occurs often. Sure thing. I didn’t know the broach was unusual. Looks like it’s a 7/16th. And the box is interesting. It’s way heavier than your average set box and has a handle on the end.

I didn’t know the broach was unusual. Looks like it’s a 7/16th.

I have one. Same wrench. Identical markings. 7/16"-6 on a 6" OAL wrench. All my others are either an actual hanging hole (no broach), 12-point broach (also not too common), or 4-pt broach (most common). I've posted it on Outlaw's Heller Masterench thread, but if you post there, I will follow or link.

Mine are all square or round, mostly round. the square broached are all pipe jaws.

There is no correlation between the shape of the hanging hole and the jaw type. Even the catalogs and ads show both jaw types with 4-point hanging holes. Or time. I've tried to find a scheme. We should probably take this to the Masterench thread, though.

So, about a month ago, I got a call from Provincial, letting me know that there was something I might be interested in at the local monthly flea market in between our homes. I wasn't too sure I needed it, nor wanted it when he was telling me about it, but, sure enough I spend enough time thinking about something, and I have to go find it. Or, at least a reason for it. So, after waiting a month, and not having much going on at this time of the year, I decided to go, which is something I don't do often enough. Anyway:

I walk the tables, seeing a few things of interest, but not exactly what our friend described. I did find a very nice Stanley #49 at a good price, so that came home with me. And as I entered one of the spaces with vendors, I spotted it. It was being sold by a gentleman that I run across regularly at various swaps and sales, and I have purchased from him before knowing that he holds his prices firm, has interesting things (used to own a hobby shop) but doesn't always know the details, so to speak. Well, I laid my money down, and walked off with a Wards branded Mossberg scope and half the mount from around '37 to '40. I say half the mount, as the part that screws to the rifle is about as rare as hens teeth. You can find that part, but it will run you a couple hundred. So, until I can get around to cutting some dovetails on my mill, I am going to use this scope on a Wards (Mossberg) rifle of about the right vintage that I own, have a later mount for, but a beat up scope. Win!

After that I went to the end of an estate sale, and dropped a couple buck on some rags, an Indestro tappet wrench, and a small, shop made ball peen.

Freakin-fracken memory...

Back in 2018, about a year before I joined GJ (and 2 years before joining the GS party), I got a trailer full of free stuff in yet another work cleanout...



The beige steel items in the rear are heavy duty shelves (Sandusky bookcases, currently selling new for $300-450+ each). They're in my basement now.

When I got them home, I noticed that one of them had shelves removed (I had the shelves), but was missing the clips (brackets) to install them. Time (years?) went by, and I eventually bought replacements, to the tune of $90 (WTF???). Put those aside for another year or so...

Anyway, we're doing some purging / reorganizing now, miraculously didn't lose the replacement clips. Finally got the last unit set up yesterday, and started loading it...

A few minutes later, I looked over on top of a pile of kids' stuff, and saw two ziplock bags. One had old arcade cards in it (had just been discussing those with my older son who'd mentioned not seeing that particular game in years). The other had something shiny. Couldn't be???

Sure enough, I asked my son what was in there, and OF COURSE it was the original clips... Apparently, I (or someone helping, but most likely I), pulled those out, stuck them in my truck, got them into the basement, and completely forgot about them...

I would have guessed that it is for a security head screw. The one with two round dots. They use them for bathroom hardware in schools and public buildings and such.

Edit. The sides look to long for my idea. I will go along with the valve core tool idea.

It is not a person’s initials, it is Estados Unidos do Brazil on German contract swords. They probably bought a boatload of them.

I think that one is a cavalry sword and the other is a artillery sword.
