Received a email from Tooltopia that they are closing down their ecommerce website on 1/22/25. Seems they are concentrating on their shop equipment "Atlas Auto Equipment". No clue if they are totally getting out of hand tools.

While I have not ordered from them of late, they were always one of the few place I would cross shop when looking at hand tools online.

I bought a LOT from them 8+ years ago. And I don't think anything since. They either didn't carry it, didn't have it in stock, or wasn't competitive on price. Dunno what happened to them, but they became useless to me a long time ago.

15 or so years ago when I was building my tool collection I ordered a bunch from them. I still check out their site from time to time.

I got the email too. At first, I was sad because, I used to order from Tooltopia often. However, I realized that it has probably been a couple years at least since I ordered from them. I guess I'm part of the problem. Still sorry to see them go.

No mention of closing on the front page of the website. Are you guys sure that was a legit email? 4 days away from no longer taking orders I would think there would be mention of it on the site. The 2024 date is confusing as well.

Their prices have not been competitive in a long while, been at least a few years since I ordered anything.

I think Tooltopia is like that old guy thats just always aroound and no one pays attention until he dies. Then its like "Oh they died? They were so nice." When in reality they stopped contributing long ago. RIP Tooltopia.

Sounds like it was a good company - that customers would gladly pass for a lower price elsewhere.

I gave a quick look at my email folder for TT and I placed ~30 orders with them between 2012-2018; nothing since. I know that I bought a lot of SK from them early on, along with all of the basics like Lisle, Mayhew, OTC...

Me too, I spent thousands with them starting out as a mechanic.

I was ordering a lot of tools from them up until 2018 or so. As others have said, they just stopped being competitive on price. I haven't been back to the website in a long time.

I don't know when they bought out Greg Smith equipment, but it was in the 2016-2018 era. (I just looked and it was 2021, so not as long ago as I thought)

I loved buying from Greg when he had a local store, but I haven't bought anything since. I think they should have kept the stores. That kind of stuff it's easier buying if you can see it.

They are clearly done with us.
A partial shipment of an order I placed this past Saturday came yesterday with one wrong item. Rather than correct their mistake their answer is to refund my $7 and say adios. I'll no doubt be on the hook for shipping now which will exceed the item's value. Thanks.
