LEFT-BEHIND this Ward's Master set (don't really collect it or this era, incomplete, and too mish-mashy in brands).

Dang lugz, I don’t know… that box looks pretty good and is probably correct for a pennens/pendleton tool company collector. I see some junk in there but also see a bit of craftsman =v= in there. Was it a stupid high price or something?

...probably correct for a pennens/pendleton tool company collector. I see some junk in there but also see a bit of craftsman =v= in there. Was it a stupid high price or something?

I only collect in-house PENENS, but this set was not Pendleton based, it was mainly postwar Indestro and miscellaneous. I saw the =V= pieces but they don't interest me, either. He wanted $50 and instead of lowering the price he just kept adding more tools I don't collect to the deal. If I got him down to $25 I might've bought it just to flip the box and decal to someone else and scrapped everything but the box or just left them there. I have done that before.

I asked about said vise without the box and he said that’s a small one I have a bigger one if you rather. I said I’ll take them both how much do you want? $20 for the small one and $40 for the bigger one. I said I’m on my way!! 15 mins away mind you. The add and two top view pics he sent are all I saw. I FINALLY FOUND ONE a $20 baby bullet with original paint and looks unused. Oh yeah and the other vise was an Athol 13, broken but!!

Yeah I don’t get that tactic either… it’s basically the same thing as you just buying the box and the misc correct tools that may be in there. Some sellers are just not reasonable or objective

Some sellers don't care about the specifics, they just want to move things along. Thus they would rather add tools and keep the price at the level they want. Remember, they are doing this for money, not the good of collecting.

Oh, for sure, and, just like buyers, not all tool vendors are the same ilk. This guy was clearly a user vendor, trying to sell to a collectible buyer. From his perspective, a box, the near complete set of tools inside it, and the extras he was piling on (a string of swivel sockets, nut drivers, etc) was him giving me a great deal. There are catch phrases I have to use every week just to maintain decorum with unfamiliar vendors because of these differences. For example, I'll be looking at something and, unsolicited, the vendor will give me a price. If it's a ridiculous price in my favor, which it often is, but I walk away, he'll think I'm a chiseler, the kind of buyer who tries to haggle someone down from $5 to $3. So I'll often have to explain that I'm only looking for certain brands or markings or ages.

When I moved the tools he had piled on the lid off of the decal, he may have figured it out.

I'm happy with the Loc-Rite socket. It is a landmark version of the off-point contact wrench development, and in great condition!



The light is interesting. I think the mount is designed to allow the wiring to feed through the tube. The word "PRESS" is stamped near the switch stem, so it may have had a different switch originally. No vent holes in the shade. It works!

We stopped by a little garage sale in Pinole on Sunday. Not much to see but brought home two rusty Visegrips, a Craftsman -v- with no part number 3/8” drive speeder and a drift that maybe I should have let lie. I don’t know how to go about repairing the tip.

Got similar nippers this week. Couldn't read anything but "PAT" But I saw the hardened insets and grabbed.

Also picked up an old machinist box, that had been gouged out for a lock that was too big. So, I need to replace the lock and repair it. I have no idea how to match that rosewood color stain. It has no gloss, so it is just stain.

There was a free gouge. A Hanson tap handle. A pair of Bernard pliers (did those have a particular use?) A tiny pair of slip joints marked "Diamond". Some old screws. And some small storage boxes.

The aluminum Stanley Eagle square was obtained back on the 5th at Columbus, which was damn near empty that chilly morning. I need another carpenters square like a hole in the head, but it was $3 and the only desirable tool I saw.

Unphotographed were some SAE Benzomatic wrenches and a pot metal dog bone bicycle wrench, which are destined to the dollar pile at the next tag sale and Sargent Scrap if that fails.

I believe that you are correct. I did a little reading on the subject and apparently sanding or grinding operations are the most hazardous. Apparently sawing with a sharp blade makes particles that are large enough not to really be hazardous. I would still recommend a respirator, however.

That is the plan for the holes drilled in the door for the wrong lock. Something like the back plate on the existing lock on both sides.

Personally, I wouldn't let it get near any powered tool. Not even a saw. If you want to square it up, do it outdoors with hand tools. A file would be my choice.

Filing is on the less dangerous list. Grinding and sanding are on the no no list. I was thinking of using a hacksaw with a fresh blade to square up the end. Outdoors, wearing my respirator.

On the door? I haven't even got it out of the car yet. It looks like machine screws going through the door. On the drawers, it looks like they drilled two holes a half inch deep (maybe 3/4s) or so then flattened between them about 3/8".
