That's what it looks like to me as well, but that seems like a good way to bend an extension.

Mike
I bet it’s for some handle or other apparatus to clip onto.
Nice score @Smokeshow69 ! I have never seen that handle style before, very cool.
Thanks! We’ve discussed them on the long c thread before. This handle shape only was used on these type of drivers

A report back on this find from Sat.:

$20 for a Hy-Score Mod 806 .177 Spring gun, missing at least 2 screws, but hopefully nothing MIA inside, and fixable. Probably not a High end gun, but not a bad one quality wise - made in Germany for Hy-Score by DIANA and is the same as a DIANA 15 from what I read

B2-Hy-score-Spring-gun.jpg

I found out it's actually quite well regraded, and made by Diana out of Germany; It was (I think) also sold as a Diana #15, and also made on contract for Winchester. The rifle was made from 1959 - 1976, a decent run for a pellet rifle.

I got a usable, if not quite correct pivot screw for the barrel pivot - replacing a setscrew that did no more than keep the barrel from falling out, and then cocked and fired it, several times, with and without a pellet - It works!

I need one more screw for the stock forearm to frame, but it seems to be an orphan thread, so off to the pellet gun parts suppliers to see if they have these.

The pivot screw is a shoulder type, so the shortened #10-32 socket head, with the smooth shank where it needs to be, is sloppy. So either the correct screw, or maybe a brass sleeve from some mini brass tubing may also work.

Oddly, it has no safety, and no sign it ever had one.

I'm pretty happy for what I paid.

but... all in all... no need for it any more... last year an American car was carbureted was 1993, right?

Well, I have too many OPEs with small engines to think about, and they all have carbs. Add ethanol, and you know the rest...

Been working 70 hour weeks since the first of the year. Today was my 17th straight day. That ends tomorrow since we’re getting another blast of snow and I’ll keep the tankers off the road. I love this time of year for the overtime.

Earlier this week I made a delivery to one of my many regulars. Her heating oil tank is in the garage so she opens the garage for access every time we deliver. We always have a nice conversation.

As I was leaving this time, she asked me if I knew anyone who wanted to buy a car. I said “maybe”. She mentioned a price and I said I’d look. As soon as I opened the hood I told her I was interested and asked how much she’d really take. We settled on $600 and I went back over today with a new battery, an air compressor to pump the tires up to snuff and drove it home.

‘97 Buick Regal GS sedan with 87k miles, leather interior, power everything, and the Supercharged 3.8 V6.

Nice pick up. My mom was probably in her early 70's when she had that car in silver, she was always stating that car can go ! I drove it occasionally, great car with very smooth acceleration.

I would have guessed that it is for a security head screw. The one with two round dots. They use them for bathroom hardware in schools and public buildings and such.IMG_4720.jpeg

Edit. The sides look to long for my idea. I will go along with the valve core tool idea.
Got this today in my haul maybe the same thingIMG_8739.jpeg

Wow that's a bad broken bone! Hope that heals right for you, and stick with whatever PT they get you on as you recover!

Never broke a bone (knocks on wood) but several times I should have... I did however half sever a tendon in my left index on top of the first section above the fingernail (you don't wan't to hear a doc in the ER go "Oh my" when he reopened to clean and suture). 2 layers of stitches 15 IIR. and 6 weels in a finger splint to keep me from snappng the tendon. at the end of that I could no longer close my fist with that finger - that took 2 years of work to get back.

It all cost $40.00, but the aluminum tread plate made my day. I was pleasantly surprised at finding so much P&C at this sale. It took some digging, and the tape was buried the first day and several other finds had also been exposed by the other pickers.

I have been trying to come up with an appropriate apology post, so I asked AI to help me compose a post that captures the correct spirit.

Dearest Esteemed Members of the Garaged Sale,

First and foremost, let me extend the warmest of greetings to the illustrious moderator and our venerable veterans. Your wisdom and guidance have been the North Star to my humble sailing vessel, guiding me through the vast seas of knowledge and camaraderie. It is with the utmost respect and a heavy heart that I must address a matter of great importance.

Following my self-imposed picking exile—a nearly three-week odyssey of introspection and reflection, prompted by my ill-fated post on January 1st—I return to you with sincere contrition. In my eagerness, I strayed from the sacred tenets that bind our treasured community, and for that, I offer my most profound apologies.

Allow me to heap praise upon the noble moderators past/present/future whose tireless efforts keep our haven pristine and free of discord. To the veterans whose sagacity and experience enrich our discussions, I bow deeply in gratitude. Your unwavering dedication and unparalleled expertise are the bedrock upon which our fellowship is built.

With every ounce of humility, I beg your forgiveness and seek absolution for my transgressions. May the skies open and shower upon you the ***** you so richly deserve; may anvils fall gently into your un-photographed laps, and garage sale vises appear only to your keen eyes.

As a token of my remorse and esteem, please accept this humble offering— a picture of a bag of silver coins discovered in a recent pick. May it serve as a small gesture of my genuine regret and deep appreciation for your magnanimity.

With the greatest respect and heartfelt gratitude,

@brockmub

I was surfing Marketplace last night, and came across an add that really intrigued me. I sent a query, heard back in minutes, and made plans to look today, drove two hours, and closed the deal.

Two lathe chucks with 1-1/2 8 threading. Plus face plate. $100. Filthy, but moved smoothly. Got them home, did a bit of checking, and it turns out they are both Union Machine. Pretty happy, and, on the way home stopped at a thrift store and picked up three books:

I can't quite imagine a practical use for this; I think mine up to 3/8" drive is sort of a stretch, but cool find!
I have used mine before, a few times. Impact driver needing to loosen something that is large but not a ton of torque. Or something that I need the extra depth of a 1/2" socket that I don't have a 3/8 mid for. Things like that.

Now the 1/2"sq->1/4"sq reducer, I only bought for novelty reasons. I show it to a bolt and the head snaps off faster than Elzar can say [*BAM*]!

Karma of the good kind, I would say.
And @Squez ***** for doing them the favor of hauling it away.

Yep would make my day too!

Overall, Prov *****
I used one of these 1/2" sq. units the other day. I needed the 3/8" sq. drive, but had left it at home (15 miles away) attached to another tool, so I just used a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer to get what I needed.

I use the 1/2 drive with my hex impact driver fairly often, usually to run a fastener into engagement and torque to spec by hand. I also used one for quite a while on my trailer jack. I welded a socket on the opposite end of the crank shaft and chuck the 1/2 square adapter into a cordless drill on low speed. As long as there isn't much extra weight on the tongue, the drill is strong enough to raise the jack, and lowering is even easier. I finally broke off the 1/4" hex, and carefully ground three flats on the bigger part of the shank. No problems since!

Looking good there guys.

Squez- I hope you're doing as well yourself as you are with the scores!

Jock- Your name came up this weekend when Craig and I were naming people who met up at Flywheelers before. Looks like you're having fun hitting the sales though.

---A few photos of some antique wrenches that were offered at a booth at Flywheelers. Many interesting and some quite rare pieces. I got to hear a bit about the collector who passed away and his collecting. The family selling were very very nice people. I say "offered" though because the wrenches really weren't anywhere near selling prices.
Still, I was like a kid in a candy store. I got to handle them all and mess with them, and probably saw a couple I've never seen before. The pictures aren't great as it doesn't really show all the interesting ones well, plus there were some other cool ones not in this area.
I did get to take a few small pieces home. Believe me I wanted to buy, but they were shooting for the moon on the really nice and rare stuff. Will post my finds later.

Ripley's patent, and first Vise-Grip. They had a second of the vise grip which I also saw, was purchased by a big collector earlier and he showed me. Nice stuff though. It was a pleasure to see them all out there together.

I really enjoyed messing with the Becklin and the Richards. Especially the Becklin. Just the way the teeth mesh together with such precision.
