How do you know you're ordering Knipex? I always find their website to be devoid of brand names.

As said, sometimes you can tell from their pictures/renderings, and you can also call and ask. I bought my Vessel phillips screwdrivers from them years ago, long before Vessel became "popular" in the US. It was obvious they were Vessel from the rendering, COO was Japan, I didn't bother to call and ask.

That's the best/most useful size IMHO. I have the 150mm/5" and 250mm/12" too, but I use the 7" more than both of those combined.

I guess I'm in that zone, too. I've got a 7" (comfort grip, oh yeahhhh) and 10" and going smaller doesn't appeal to me.

Had a friend recommend a wee li'l Cobra size to me, and I found that I just don't use. Used it on vacation to tighten something -- because it's so tiny I took it on vacation. And it was a small thing that shouldn't be overtightened, too, so it's a good match for the telescope gizmo bag.

I went 12" on Cobras out of curiosity and of the kind of work I get into, it just hardly comes up. 10" is a sweet spot for me for both Cobra and P.W.

I keep a separate Amazon list of tools that I don't necessarily have to have, but something I can add to an order to qualify for free shipping. :)

These arrived today: Padded DeWalt safety goggles - something I can use alone or with the full-face shield I use for the angle grinder. The other is a cheap set of tools to remove [pop loose] interior panels and the like. I thought they would be all plastic but they're metal with plastic handles. Came with a handy velcro seal bag to keep them from gathering the dust that they would likely get while I wait for an actual need to use them. A whim, but a cheap one.

Since I just got back from being on the road, I had to donate a bit of my money to the Snap on man. The air hammer set is part of a promo. Buy the kit get the air hammer free, not shown is the air hammer. He didn’t have my color on the truck. Yep it’s very expensive, I’m well aware. Also some other free ****.IMG_2963.jpeg

I have @KnurledNut to thank for this. I’ve been wanting an all in one kit with long security bits. So yesterday this kit popped up on zoro’s site and 20% off later..

And I got to put a few to use today. What I don’t like is the handle is too small a diameter. But I have another wera bit kit that the handle is larger. I’m hoping that solved my gripe

Over a year ago in the Vevor thread I posted about buying a $150 Vevor jack hammer. Over the past year I've done a lot of concrete, asphalt, and even some ice demolition with it, so I thought I'd give a $200 w/free shipping Vevor core drill a try since in the near future I have many holes I need to drill in block. brick, and concrete. It's the 8" diameter x 23.5" depth capacity. It's supposed to have a clutch which some of their other models don't. It came with the stand and a 4.25" diamond core drill. The biggest issue putting it together was the stand is shipped with the base plate reversed. You have to turn it around to be able to use it. There are two bolts that hold the column to the base plate which sounds simple, but the column is pressed into a cavity in the base plate so tight its really difficult to remove even with the bolts removed. The base plate is cast out of pot metal so I didn't want to beat on it too hard with a dead blow fearing I might break it. After I eventually got it off, I filed on the cavity in the base plate as well as the column where it fits into the base plate and got it fitting better. I probably won't get into my hole drilling project until spring, so I haven't really used it yet. I did run it with the drill bit attached and it seems to turn pretty true for a bit this size. The rack and pinion seem to work pretty smooth. Visually the quality of the manufacturing seems pretty decent. Hopefully it serves me as well as the jack hammer. I'll chime in again after I've actually had a chance to do some holes with it.

I was a bit shocked when Ii saw the price on them, luckily I don't need my air hammer often in my line of work.

Awhile back I bought a Wera VDE set and was kinda surprised how small the handle was. Those 816/817 handles are really small

I picked up the Proto J9326 Strikable Extraction Set. (Also available from MAC.)
This is by far the most heavy-duty bit handle I own.
It only comes with 8 bits; I would love to have an expanded set. They are 7” long.
The hex and torx are RBRT, the PH uses a form of ACR, and the slotted have a very unique profile I have never seen: ACR ribs machined with a parallel tip (not just hollow ground) and a slightly wider width taper than the base hex which I’m not sure how they manufactured. Almost seems like it would have to be forged and then machined.
The driver retention is excellent. Regular 1/4 long bits do work in this handle but I will likely add notches to some of my existing ones to gain full retention. This uses a double ring (special shaped?) method unlike anything I have ever seen and seems proprietary to this tool. One ring holds detents and the other seems to minimize wobble. The grip is supposed to be solvent resistant and is a quad lobe shape. Weight is heavy. I would have no reservations absolutely wailing on this thing. Proto put some engineering into this and the fit and finish are quality. Quite impressed. Even the case is well designed with individual bit slots and has a metal belt clip. Taiwan-made.
I picked this up for about 1/3 of retail and am quite pleased.

This little fella showed up today as part of the toolkit I'm assembling on the previous page. I've had the metric version for years and I didn't realize it when I ordered this, but the imperial version does not have the spring loaded Wera logo locking button on the top right side for the pivoting bit holder like the metric version does. Instead, it uses two small plastic protrusions on the sides of the bit holder to hold it in place. They're quite weak, at least on mine, so I wouldn't trust them to keep the bit holder closed like I do the lock button on the metric version. Not a deal breaker, but worth noting. Still an awesome little set.

All of the holders are like this now, regardless of metric/SAE
I did modify mine a bit to open & close the way I wanted it to.
The new design also allows for 1 more socket to squeeze in the rail.

Today's arrival:

54283693736_aa05e9bd8f_b.jpg

My last camera body is dying. Its symptoms are the same as the one before: Button controls stop working, menu items stop working--then the camera one day turns into an expensive brick.

This body is the same as my last. I'm happy with it and used to the control lay-out.

I'm guessing that the cause of the premature digital camera death in my shop--the camera lives beside my desk off to one corner of the shop--is EMF from the numerous large motors and maybe the welders, too, possibly combined with humidity (the camera body is supposed to be weather proof) and metal dust. Not sure, but the last body lasted for 1 yr 4 mo, which isn't good (but is 4 mo longer than the warranty). I made a Faraday cage out of an M2A1 ammo can by adding a ground--and it's watertight, so I tossed in a new silica gel pack.

I'll let you all know if it worked in a couple of years--sooner if it doesn't.

Now I get to spend the next hour or so transferring all the custom settings from the old camera to the new. Nikon allows one to customize the hell out of these semi-pro cameras, but getting them set entirely to my liking requires changing a lot of settings.

I got the M2A1 Water and Dust Proof Faraday Cage made up:

Some foam padding inside:

Now to make a nice tinfoil hat....

Wera changed the design some time ago, the locking tab is no more - no matter if metric or imperial. If you buy one new and get one with a locking tab, that’s simply NOS/ pure luck.

Metric, current version: https://products.wera.de/en/ratchet..._mini_zyklop_mini_1_tool-check_plus.html.html

Gentlemen or any body else ;). Both my Wera bit sets use thee same 816 handle which is just to damn small for my hands. I went to their site to see what options there might be but no luck determining what diameter other handles are.

Does anyone happen to know if they even make one with the bit latching feature?. I'm sure I can go with theirs or anyone else's magnetic universal handle but I'm annal about matching sets so....

Thanks

Stanley indexing ratchet and socket set. Twist style locking extension. Taiwan. Found on the Walmart website. The copyright on the packaging is 2000. I don’t know how long Stanley made these.

I had a look and can‘t find the product I had in mind on Wera’s website.

This series should have a larger diameter handle, but offers a very different feel to the hand, due to the “hollow” handle/ bit compartment. Not sure the bits from your set would fit without the use of the supplied adapter.

Olli

Thanks oili. I looked at those and considered it. I guess it might be my only option.
