Errands in the AM, then changed the heater filter and vacuumed all reachable dust in both ends. The intake box scratched my left biceps a good one. Didn't even feel it happening.

Then fixed the street side (corner house) fence, that had 4 boards fall out of the tracks. - second time so I adjusted the rail for than and an adjoining section. (the rails are on cyclone fence posts, and I can loosen the Outlaw designed and made clamp and move the rails up or down). Part of the issue was the boards shrank in length a bit, and part is the offending rail had developed an upwards arch...

That was enough dirty work, so I started an inventory of my pellet and BB guns. Got about half at a guess, and most I was able to even ferret out the purchase dates and costs. The other older half I doubt I have any records. Got too long ago and none bought new.

Thanks. Currently... We are pumping out a couple custom vanities starting Monday. Spent this morning sweeping as I don't quite feel up to finishing the head gasket on one of my fleet vans, that I reluctantly started rate before I got that nasty flu that was going around. Any ways I did a thread a while back on my shop is kinda unusual. Lol1000000287.jpg1000000286.jpg1000000288.jpg
Awesome shop !

Bringing an old Dewalt RAS back to life. A few more parts in primer and the box frame, mounting brackets and clamps in the base coat color.
I look forward to seeing the saw finished. I use mine almost daily. When I replaced the bearings my pot metal fan cracked while removal I have a file somewhere so you can 3d print a new one 1000000300.jpg1000000302.jpg

I modified a cigar box.

This is arguably the coolest cigar box ever:

IMG_20250129_162741.jpg

The problem is that the lid wasn't attached. It was notched so you could prop it open, but otherwise it just sat loose:

IMG_20250129_162809.jpg

IMG_20250129_162757.jpg

Pretty, but not useful. So I converted it to a sliding top:

Wrestled in a pile of Pro Audio gear. A friend is into commercial construction, and they are turning a local bar into a restaurant, so all the PA/DJ stuff had to go. He knew I deal in that kind of stuff and gave me a call.

I bought some obviously EV-branded stuff, and took a gamble on some homemade cabinets. The gamble paid off, they were stuffed with JBL drivers!

There was one let-down though. I was hoping to score this big EV 4x 18" subwoofer he sent me pictures of, but the cabinet wasn't able to be removed (it was built it into the stage). But my friend got the drivers out of it for me. Hooray, right? Well only one of the four subs works, and it's not an EV, it's a replacement. Two original EV subs have open coils, and the 3rd was another off-brand replacement, and it does "work", but it has some kind of mechanical noise. So that kinda *****, I was hoping to keep that big 4x18 for me, lol. Oh well, I'll still do well on the deal considering the surprise JBLs I found in those sketchy cabinets.

Out to the shop to get a few things done, and ****, my over the bench light fixture went out. Checked the wiring and connections. Once again, I don't throw stuff out. Went out to the little junk room in my barn, found an old fixture, and swiped the ballast from it, switched 'em out, and away we go. I almost went to the hardware store, and bought an LED fixture, but I've still got about 20 bulbs left, which will outlast me, no doubt.

Different hairstyles than you grew up with skeer you? Oh, dear. My grandmother wouldn't let my dad have a crewcut, because only criminals wore them. High school principals in my day forcibly with the help of cops gave crewcuts to kids who wanted long hair. What is the only politically correct haircut for you?

It's just hair. It grows, and people try different styles. Eventually, most of us guys lose the ability to keep the hair we wanted when we were teenagers. Get over it.

Have you looked for it in your ears? Might be there....

How bad would EV hit you for repairs? Still come out cheaper than a new purchase I would think. How big was the enclosure for that thing? I am picturing 1000 pounds of MDF that's just obscenely massive to house 4 eighteen-inch subs.

So why are 4 doors so important? Someone can't climb over a seat back on the rare occasion that more than 2 people are in the car? I guess that is too much of an imposition.
@Wiz02, from my teens into my 30s I chose 2 door vehicles. I also chose non-A/C cars with window cranks. These were the family vehicles when I was 31 and making a move from the Hudson Valley to Florida:
Chrome Reverse Rims.jpg
In Florida we drove the GTO with the windows rolled down and did the usual touristy things, like Lion Country Safari. You don't want to be driving through a pride of lions with the windows down so the five of us (my mother in the back seat with the kids).

I shopped for a 2-door A/C car but a used, relatively low mileage Lincoln Town Car was so much cheaper, we ended up with one to replace the GTO. Installed a Class III hitch to tow the boat and put a small TV behind the front seat to entertain the kids on long trips. Replaced the Vega with a '69 Corvette 427-4-speed for my daily commute (7 miles each way). Joined a Corvette club and made friends with a childless couple who liked to go on cruises -- a really cheap option in South Florida. We car-pooled to Port Everglades and the Port of Miami and the trunk in the Lincoln swallowed suitcases like they were potato chips. A little fender bender ended my relationship with that Corvette.
1971 Lincoln Town Car 1.jpg 1969 Corvette Collage.jpg
When our friends bought a '76 Cadillac Seville we went back to all 2-door cars, a Lincoln Mark IV, a Corvette (big block automatic} and a Fiat X1/9 (my commute doubled and the gas savings paid for the Fiat). We discovered Club Med and the night before one of our trips, a carload of Corvette club delinquents decorated our cars with the appropriate messages.
Club Med Crazy Signs.jpg
At the previous year's Club Med Vacation on one of the French Caribbean islands the buffet included Lapin a La Cocotte (Rabbit Stew) and one of our friends asked Liane if it was chicken wings because there were large and small legs visible. Liane told her it was Chipmunk Wings (with a straight face). Thus the "Chipmunk Wings" shoe polish sign on the side window of the Mark IV.

Our friends sold their Cadillac so we traded the Mark IV for another Lincoln Town Car. Paid $6,000 cash for the absolutely loaded '78. It had every available option and just over 18,000 miles on it. Some options precluded others so the audio system was an 8-track with built-in CB radio. At the time, all our cars had CB radios, like all the other members of the Corvette club. That Lincolan had the window sticker in the glove compartment and it was a $30K+ car when new. Forty years ago, old people traded their cars in every few years, just like they did when they were young. Mostly Cadillac and Lincoln sedans in South Florida.
1974 Fiat X19 & 1978 Lincoln Town Car.jpg
In 2004 I Looked at the PT Cruiser 2-door convertible to replace our '96 Buick Regal 4-door (that car made me feel older just looking at it). I thought Mazda Miatas had small trunks but the PT convertible has an oversize glove compartment. The local Chrysler Jeep dealership had a PT Cruiser Touring Turbo 4-door sedan with a $6K discount because it was used, for 253 miles. With its seats folded down and rear tray in its matching position it swallows a pile of 8-foot lumber, 15 bags of wood chips, a small freezer, dishwasher and tool chests/cabinets and brings them home. Removing the rear seat and package tray entirely increases the capacity even more.
Convertible Trunk.jpg Cargo Capacity 2.jpg Cargo Capacity 1.jpg
I figure $19 or $29 for a 75 minutes use of a Home Depot flatbed or box van (or the whole day for $129 or $149) is better than buying a used pickup or monster SUV for $30K. Our son and oldest grandson have those available in a pinch. The 99% of my driving is an empty PT Cruiser with a 4-banger turbo that puts a smile on my face every time I floor it. At 22YO, with 51,000 miles it doesn't owe me anything.

We continued to have one 4-door in the fleet until 2016. I had been searching for a Cadillac CTS-V but most of the cheaper ones had manual transmissions and my Florida driver's license says it needs to be an automatic. One of my granddaughters bought a CTS Coupe and I checked out the back seat. Crawling in there to clean and treat the leather might be a one-way trip for an elderly person like me.
Coupe Rear Seat.jpg
I found a six year old 2011 CTS-V 4-door sedan with 11,700 miles on the odometer at a small car lot six miles from my home. It followed me back to the house. The supercharged LSA helps me forget it has four doors. I am having a hard time justifying the Corvette remaining in the stable because I can get in the car OK but boy is it a comedy show climbing out. If you put your left hand in your pocket and try to get out of a C4 Corvette, you'll understand the problem.

The cars are getting faster and better. Try to keep up. Or get a horse & buggy.
@Fixr , Australia and Florida agreed I shouldn't be driving a manual with one hand. I did rent a van in New Zealand to do the touristy thing with four of our friends. Rental vans down there are all manual. I did the pedals and steering (with my required spinner mounted) while my autocross buddy rowed the stick. We got it down to perfect synchronization. Being ancient, I wonder how many 3-pedal fans would feel about driving a car in stop-and-go traffic with a completely non-synchromesh manual transmission. I vividly remember shifting one without using the clutch except to start or stop. It's a fun thing to learn but not so fun to live with every day.

Does anyone miss vent windows instead of air conditioning? Hand crank windows? Manual seats? Power nothing cars with no directional signal stalk? AM-only radios? How about rotary phones on a 'party' line? I miss all of those things just like I miss Polio.
I do Bob. Mostly on days where my AC isn't working or a solenoid isn't doing its job. Everything I own has manual seats and they're perfectly comfy for me. Not sure I'd give up FM radio just yet, but AM radio and rotary phones with party lines were a little before my time.

Dallas traffic in a manual Freightliner was the final straw, cured me of wanting a manual in anything ever again. Not sure why rubber floors are not an option in new vehicles considering one of the first purchases people make are new weathertech liners to cover up all the carpet, and I am just as guilty as everyone else because I've done the same thing. However, that is only because you can't really pick and choose the options you want on vehicles. I think the closest you can get is dealing with commercial sales and going with a cab & chassis.

My DD does have directional stalk and indicators.... Shaft tuner WITH FM and working cassette too. Even the Amish horseNbuggies round here have indicators, Sheesh... :D :p
Manual windows/seats and trans, no AC, no Brain and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My cars have gone up in value, never owned a car that depreciated or went down.

And garage content for today... Made an Aux fuel tank for working on motorcycles or when ever I need to feed some fuel.
made from VW washer bottle and some parts in the Hoard.

Hell Bob, my 2006 2500HD Duramax daily driver doesn't have all that fancy ****. I still have manual windows, manual seats and manually shifted transfer case. No wing windows though. ;)

I don't have to miss no AC, as my camp rigs don't have it. Sammies have hand crank windows, and the T-Van, again, has working electric up front after fixing them, manual sliders in the back... All 1987 or older...

All the vehicles except the 95 T-bird have manual seats. Of course, the T-bird windows don't work, and now the AC wants a Drink...

Lots of little stuff today....finished painting baseboards for the basement. (its only been about 2 years so I'm not that late)
While the paint dried, I finished the last small burn pile behind the barn and since it'sbaseboards.jpgskis.jpg been raining instead of snowing in Tahoe and I don't want to ski in that stuff, I decided to wax the skis so at least they'll be ready if the cold hits and the white stuff starts falling again....

I think we are really discussing comfort features vs utilitarian features. Different people chacterize features differently.

As time passes, more luxury options move down market and become standard features. People get used to these features and they are now considered utilitarian.

We didn't have a car with A/C until I was twelve and I was in college before Dad would buy a car with power windows, seats and door locks.

I imagine it's almost impossible to buy a new car today with manual brakes and steering but they used to be optional on cheaper cars.

I hardly ever move the car windows, as I rely on the car's hvac system, so my power windows are basically unused, especially with electronicv toll collection. Manual seats are fine with me too, since I set the seat once and I am done in my DD.

Agreed that I'm not sticking my arm out the window to signal a turn, with or without power windows, but FYI hand signals were part of my driver's education.

Recently I've been shutting off the radio and just driving, so AM radio is no big deal to me p. Plus as unbelievable as it sounds, if my wife is in the car with me, we actually talk to each other with the radio off.

I do have one vehicle with a screen, I use it and scan mirrors when backing up, which is nice, but that’s about it for the infotainment system.

So while it seems like I am a Luddite on car features, going back to rotary phones and party lines is a hard no.

I know that we have discussed it many times on GJ, but I would love to buy a de-contented vehicle that has minimal "luxury" features. Basically a vehicle with 1970’s features: PS,PB, automatic transmission and A/C.

Of course I want a modern suspension, crumple zones, air bags, seat belts and engine management systems which I know balloons the cost, but I would gladly give up some mpg in exchange for increased longevity and easier maintenance.

The above just ain't gonna happen so I will keep my money in my pocket.

working on the wife's wagon, has a power steering leak among other small oil leaks... A while back I got a new pressure line and reservoir to pump hose and a bunch of fluid. I hadn't yet done any service on the power steering, been on the list a while... So today I got to work and ended up having to pull the pump, which was quite a pain, for such a big car there is no room to work under the hood, everything is in the way. I found the pump leaking from the body, fortunately new pumps are available, so I ordered one. No one locally had one anyway. I did manage to get the pressure line swapped out.

Leaking at the bottom:
IMG_9571.jpg

I did find a remanufactured sticker on the bottom of the pump, most likely changed by a dealership, probably 25 years ago! We have had the car for going on 7 years and it sat for about 14-15 years before we got it.

Power brakes and power steering was optional on Chevy Impala's through at least 1964.
I remember mom driving a 61 Olds 88 with power steering, manual brakes and dealer added A/C.......

For the first time since Christmas, I actually spent some quality time in the garage, putting snow tires on my Camaro. Better late than never!

Between the unusally cold weather for these parts, no heat in the garage and RSV kicking my ***, this has been the first warm day where I could get out there and enjoy myself without coughing up a lung.
