Certainly not always true. Years ago our local Lowes would hire retired contractors to work in the plumbing electrical and paint departments. They most certainly knew more than almost all their customers. The plumbing guy helped me immensely several times.and the paint guy was so good he could match any color perfectly.

BTW, not even remotely possible. The design is not even remotely similar across all the tool brands. Also, that's why that ***** works at Northern Tool and not somewhere that requires brain cells.

I was going to say it sounds like I need to boycott Northern Tool if that's who they hire but if I boycotted every store just for that, I'd never be able to shop anywhere.

10 years ago my local Home Depot had some really knowledgable employees. These days not so much, they might know their own name.

Of course that is a moot point since you can rarely find a employee.

I had a coworker that shared a conversation he had with a Ryobi Rep in a home depot.

The guy told him Ryobi was very good brand to start with because they were made by the same company that makes Rigid and Milwaukee. So if you need something that Ryobi doesn't make you can get it from one of the other two, or if you just need a heavier duty version. Since they're all made by the same company the batteries are all interchangeable.


I said, wow that's pretty interesting I never would have expected that.

Then I thought about a little bit.

I pointed out to him that Ryobi still uses the batteries with the center post for the connection while everyone else has switched to the batteries that slid on from the front.

Some people claim synergies in R&D are deployed, utilized & encouraged among these brands.

I can neither confirm nor deny. Still it’s not completely unthinkable.

However, the claim of interchangeability of the batteries between those brands is obviously wrong.

Agreed. It's sad. When a branch would first open, they'd jump on you as you walked down an isle. Now it can be a chore to find someone, let alone someone who knows what they are talking about. At my local HD, it's not uncommon to see the employees huddled around talking nonsense about how bad the job is. Not sure what happened, but something certainly changed.

I don't know if that's true, some brands are related. A bunch of years back, I toured the JD factory in Waterloo. Towards the end of the tour we ended up where the finished tractors were being driven out of the factory under their own power. Someone asked what happened if they didn't start. The tour guide said they paint them red and push them out back.

A sales associate at Northern Tool store said that if the Milwaukee internal part's don't meet their standards, they go to Makita.

It's always a coin toss for me if I should be a rude ******* because these people know they are lying or simply just ignore them and go about my business satisfied with the karma of "sales associate".

Nothing wrong with sales associate. I did my time for Radio Shack. But I never told anyone that the free batteries of the week were made by Duracell.

I have blue tools. I'm happy using red tools. Or yellow tools. Don't care. But as a bought blue, I have to color coordinate, since I fail to color coordinate elsewhere.

I have both Dewalt and Makita tools mostly for construction / renovation. Both are great tools over the last 25 years. Cannot say if either are second to Milwaukee. May need to pick up some Milwaukee cordless power tools to replace the older Dewalts having all 3 battery platforms.

I hear the same thing about buying Starbucks or Peets coffee at a grocery store rather than a Starbucks or Peets location.

I'm taking no chances with substandard coffee so I buy from a local roaster.
