Here's a brand new can at a similar angle:

I would toss that in something like a 6% cleaning solution vinegar and see how it turns out in 24 hours. It's possible that the metal could end up having thin areas end up as holes from doing that but you might get some Clues too the shape of the can and possibly some identifying stampings or paint residually still on it
