We were off to Lafayette this morning to an estate sale put on by one of our preferred estate sale companies. The pickings were slim but the prices were right. IMG_0897.jpeg

Since we were in Lafayette anyway we headed to a sale put on by another company that usually puts me off with high prices and poor selection. We went out to the backyard where the few tools were sitting and another customer had a box full of interesting tools. We chatted for a bit and I was able to answer some questions about the goodies he had gathered. One item in his box that caught my eye was a small Perfect Handle Stillson wrench which I drooled over for a while. He was a nice young guy and before he checked out, he came back and offered me the wrench which I accepted since I didn’t have one in my Perfect Handle collection. I found a few other tools and after checking out we picked up lunch from a great Texas Bar-be-que place in Pleasant Hill. IMG_0906.jpeg
The Long C auger bit may have been used once. IMG_0916.jpeg
The Japanning on the Williams wrenches was in excellent condition. IMG_0922.jpegIMG_0921.jpeg
The Auto Wrench was an 11” Vlchek which passed the socket test, for what that’s worth. IMG_0910.jpegIMG_0909.jpegIMG_0914.jpeg
but my find of the day was the Perfect Handle H D Smith Co Stillson Wrench. IMG_0920.jpeg

Some nice grabs Don.

I’ve been falling way behind on posting my finds lately. Starting with the most current here, from the once a month auto swap meet.

Had a few pretty good times there in the past. This visit was just awesome. There were tons of tools and almost too many good deals. I went a little nuts. However, I’m a bargain hunter and didn’t overpay for anything. It was a rare day.

Grabbed this box for 10 bucks. Mainly for an old Truth t-handle, and in one of the drawers, an old Blue-Points wrench. Didn’t inventory the top or get to the drawers before running out of time tonight.

Dowidat 3 pc. pipe wrench set. Classic Euro style. Too cool and too good a deal to leave. 66409F81-C62B-42A1-8A1F-C2302B02511D.jpeg
This Cornwell box and misc. contents. 253F767B-D028-4212-A449-6AFFDAEAFD7E.jpeg
Most of a 1/2” Hinsdale set. Indestro hex rat, misc sockets, carb socket, one old Snap-On in there.

Gellman wrench, Co-Op deluxe 1/2” rat needing some tlc, pair of not yet id’d wood chisels, Utica pistol grip pliers, vintage Mac battery pliers, PS&W end nippers, Plierench, unmarked offset screwdriver, vintage craftsman cutters.

Easco 1/4” ratchet. A few Snap-On pcs.

Action 1/2 breaker bar, Matco 3/8 metric swivel socket set to 22mm, Matco and Mac screwdrivers, Mac pliers, Mac scraper, Craftsman small hammer, Lufkin Mic, Crescent caliper. Misc sockets and u joints are Mac, Snap-On, Matco.

Wright 3/8 offset ratchet, Sterling (Mossberg) wrench, 6” Ridgid, 4” Barcalo. The Barcalo has knurled sides, which I’ve seen before, but this may be my first with the sides.

All in all it was a great day. There is more that I didn’t get to. The NOS Walden guy that I ran into a few years ago was there. I bought a bulk lot from him and not quite sure what my plans are yet. I did get pics of some of his stuff. May save pics for Walden thread.

The yard sale season hasn't really begun here in Ohio, however, I did pick up a few items the other day.

So, the company I work for was reorganizing some of their departments, and getting rid of things that were no longer needed or things that haven't been used in a long time.

I got an email from one of the guys in charge of throwing stuff out and he asked if I had any need for a stud welder. It was bought for a new product that never happened, so it was brand new in the box. I told him I don't know what I would use it for, but I will take it. He said "sell it or trade it for more guns". So I may wind up doing that.

Then when I was picking it up, I said, if you get ready to throw that mag drill that was on the shelf out, let me know and I will save him the trip.

He told me it was also on the chopping block. This thing is practically brand new.
1000015803.jpg
When I was carting it away he told me to wait, he had some bits for it. He then handed me an entire box full of brand new rotabroaches.
1000015804.jpg

I have been given some pretty nice tools and equipment from my company. When they reorganize or remodel, the scrap bins are usually full of goodies too.

I have needed a mag drill several times over the years and didnt have one, so im sure I will get some use out of this one.

There was an interesting looking (at least on Craigslist) sale not too far past the dog park, so me and little Pepperoni stopped on "the way". And while there was an interesting looking vintage bench grinder in the 1/2HP range, it was so rusty and missing parts that I didn't bother to make an offer. But, as I needed to get my hair cut, I stopped at the Restore in that area.

An older Xcelite 99 set partial, Marples electronic driver, Millers Falls PH#1, and an early '20s Cornwell tappet.

After that, feeling lucky as I was, I swung by my favorite thrift store and managed to dig these out of the stacks:

A little bit of research here on GJ led me to the contents of the 7111 Husky box. I'll have to see how many pieces I can round up from the garage. This is from the 1961 or 62 catalog.

First of all @freudianfloyd *****

Ok, been a long while & Sunday morning finally found a moving sale listing on Marketplace that was only posted an hour ago.
A couple was moving & selling dad's tools & whatever else was in the garage.
I made 3 piles with 3 accepted offers, all the while nervous that the other buyers that were supposedly on their way would show up!

Digging bar, shovels, tamper, Fiskars power lever extendable shears, floor jack, come-along, fold-up hand cart & 5 lawnchairs.

P1010001.JPG

H. Freight Grinder, Clamps, Rope, Ratchet straps.

P1010006.JPG

Senco finish nailer, Ridgid Stapler, Ryobi saw, Dewalt hammer drill.

P1010008.JPG

Irwin Quick grips, Ext cords,
C-clamps: Adjustable, Bessey, Hargrave
Irwin visegrips
Mac Truck Bulldog sitting on orange hammer

P1010010.JPG

Estwing stacked handle hatchet w/sheath
Knipex & HF clone

P1010013.JPG

Inside the beat up Craftsman stack that I had no interest in were a bunch mostly junk to me tools, but sticking out of some rusty screwdrivers was a Snap-on AD12 adjustable. That was the only truck tool in the whole garage.
In the same drawer found most of a metric Craftsman wrench set. Not marked USA, so not Professional series.

P1010018.JPG

Finally laying in the corner were some new to me looking goobers
Turns out, if I made the trip & all I came home with was these, my for everything price of $175. would have been not too bad.

Hit an estate sale this morning. Some interesting stuff, the guy clearly took some trips to Japan.

Many NOS Vessel screwdrivers (he had drawers with many more)

Some Snap-on screwdrivers and one socket

Fluke current clamp (missed out on a small Fluke multimeter but this was a nice consolation prize!)

Ratcheting crimpers

4 Koken wobble extensions (very pleased to find these)

SK ratchet, 1/4" universal and extension handle

Couple random Japanese ratchets

And an old school Weller soldering gun

I missed out on a pair of Knipex Alligators and a pair of Cobras but I'm happy with what I got. $70 for everything!

Bless me Father for I have sinned, my last Flea Market trip (Lugz 2025_03) was (...doing the math...) 47 days ago! Work, grandkids, weather, getting old, trying to cut down/cut back, etc. Hard to believe it's March and this was only my 4th time out! I had a 'January' photos folder in my '2025 Flea' photos folder on my laptop. And a 'February' folder. But I just merged them and labeled it 'Spring', which I have not had since 2012. If you were graphing my collecting by folder organization, I was winding up in those days, it would balloon in the middle, and now I am winding down.

Lugz 2025_04

2025_04.jpg

Excuse the glare!

Left to Right:

/ c. 1921 tension gauge (I have a strong feeling this is unmarked Bell/Western Electric)
/ "MARVEL" razor blade scraper (long-time followers know my penchant for utility knives)
/ 5" square that I only bought for the artwork
/ a pair of Buckingham TBD's in their own leather sheaths, gauges of some kind, if I had to guess (I have another strong feeling these are unmarked Bell/Western Electric. I own a US Army Signal Corps lineman's belt and climbers made by Buckingham, and these came out of the same box as the tension gauge)
/ a sinker (I think), possibly used for something else, something plumb-bobish perhaps

EDIT: Added the Oak Leaf etched square below.

Two LEFT-BEHINDS

Pics 1 & 2: An open screw light Utility No. 3-1/2 bench vise from Simplex Tool Co in Woonsocket, R.I. I wanted it just for the abbreviated "WOON." marking (not kidding!) and the cool quick release lever on the base, but the guy wouldn't come off the asking. Our affable 2025 host will ogle this. I know he has a more substantial model from the same company.

Pic 3 & 4: An unmarked scooter. Also too much. I was not sure who made it, thinking it needs a lot of work, and do I really want another project?

Thx for posting that Simplex Lugz! I think you helped me ID the MFG of an unmarked vise I got last Sat. I'll check later.
Glad to help. Did you see that I ID'ed that nifty little one-drop needle oiler you found last week?! Want to make sure you didn't miss it. FOAK for the 'Oilers' thread far as I can tell.

I did! I haven't had time to pursue the link you posted, but will. you can still buy the thing today new... What did you think of the little Perfume vial I'm converting? I'm planning on redoing the nickle plate.

Today was my last day at work; retirement is here! I got out for a little over an hour and made an Estate Sale - my last time trying to fit work around yard & estate sales! Would you believe I had 5 meetings my last day? icon_lol.gif

Blue grass snips, Long C 3/8th Breaker, Penens "Pebble" Combo, 3lb splitter, Motor Spec 5-1/2" Pliers I liked:

Estate sale ($20): Cronstroms cooler; Porter Cable 6931 plunge router base; Fluke T2 electrical tester; Vacuum gear; Router fence; Jewlers hammer; Picture.

Really dig the cooler. Put a new seal in and it's ready for summer beverages. Pretty elaborate fence. No idea on the manufacturer.

I thought it was ingenious. You can never have enough little needle oilers.
Today was my last day at work; retirement is here!
Congrats! I was hoping to go at 67, but it may happen a tad earlier.
I find how I am busy to be different in retirement.
I may soon find out.

Without starting any kind of conversation that could venture into the 'No Politics' rule, I think pretty much everyone knows I am a national security consultant, working mainly Army things, and everyone is undoubtedly aware of ongoing austerity/budget cutting activities, etc,..., well, I got a formal email today. Not a pink slip. Questions about the functions I am performing falling into 'governmental services'. They literally are, but my rate is 3 x my gov't peers (SES, ST, SSTM, if anyone is familiar, which are 1- and 2-star equivs). So, the next step could be the other foot dropping.

Very cool! how is the condition? From the pic it looks pretty good!

I'm trying to envision that as a fence - maybe its a guide
The cooler is in very good condition. It was nice as the top pops off, which allowed me to bang out some of the dings and dents. It currently, has just some fiberglass insulation in the top, which I might replace with foam board so you can sit on it without putting a dent into it. What's nice is that the drain plug is still present, which I would imagine are broke and lost most times.

Ya the fence. I can see a guide. The hole in the center reminds of where you put a router, but I can't imagine why you would need so many adjustments.

It's a super complicated rail. Even the HDPE face has a groove milled into it. Seemed a shame to leave it behind as it was in a pretty dirty and full of **** basement. I found only the small hammer and the router base in this mess. So probably would have went out with the buyout guys dumpster, which 98% of the basement would have.

Somebody probably wants this, but Whom  . I guess this is what we call fun. Sure hope I'm still doing this when I retire. Congrats @Outlawmws

Wow, I officially have a stalker (with a photogenic memory, apparently)! There's someone else here who hoards Simplex items with the the O.G. RI markings, but I definitely would have had a hard time walking away from that!

Mine is newer (from OH), with an unknown history, other than it came out of my grandfather's basement after he passed away.

Sorry to hear Lugz.
No worries. You know my side hustle, NJSIAA (HS) and ECAC (NCAA D3) baseball umpire, always takes a hit due to my lingering daytime job and travel, and the ECAC assignor has been after me to do more. And if that's not enough, now that I have the right tool, I can always pick up a job scraping bubble gum off of elementary school bathroom floors! :)

Snerk. I hate to disappoint you, but I used the Search function to search the Mega Vise thread, which is where I saw you had one.

Since a few of you are mentioning FBMP, I only joined FB for access to FBMP.

Out of the blue today, they're trying to force me to let them take 3-D pics of my face, through a 3rd party company, for "age verification" claiming it's due to laws limiting access to online purchases.

Are they F-ing serious??? I've never searched for anything beyond tools, garage sales and boats.

Anyone else having to deal with this nonsense???

Nice! I agree, foam would be a better insulator. and yes on the lost/damaged drain plugs!

I buy and sell a lot on FBMP and I've never heard of such a thing. Did the request come from a Nigerian Prince?
