Cleaning, sorting, scrapping.

I wish there was like a "food bank" type thing for NOS car parts. I have a bunch of **** sitting around that isn't worth selling, but it feels silly to throw away. I wish I could donate them to some kinda parts-pantry for the less fortunate, lol.

The root of the problem is, I buy spare parts, then sell the car that they go to, and forget to include the parts with the car. Then I'm stuck with 'em.

Last week of working for a living - tomorrow is it - but got so busy I forgot to post last Sunday that I did an oil change, Cleaned some tools Monday, End of work paper work off an on all week... and yard work late this afternoon after another "fitting" at the dentist.
Congrats.
My buddy's dad told him to get a hobby so he wouldn't get bored. My buddy said, "You have severely underestimated my ability to lay on the couch and do nothing."

I picked these two up at an estate sale yesterday.

Removed the removable parts, and cleaned. Spun the cutting wheel against some 100 grit sandpaper using my drill, removed most of the rust and grunge.

IMG_6595.jpeg

A little lubrication, and a test cut.

IMG_6596.jpeg

Works better than the one I’ve had for years.

Started cleaning up, the mic.

IMG_6593.jpeg

Spun with drill and cleaned up with a green scotchbrite.

Can’t get this screw to release, so waiting for the PB Blaster to work on it for a while.

Walked in to toss some cardboard in the recycling to keep it out of the snow, turned around and walked out. That's about all of the room I have to move in there until spring when I can keep the OH door open long enough to do some proper organization. Hindsight being what it is, renting a storage unit for a few months might have been a good idea.

We were trying to keep the budget down with the move, so we opted to (because we thought 60 days was a fair amount of time) move everything ourselves. Due to injuries and life getting in the way, we ended up scrambling and basically throwing everything that didn't have a home yet into the garage instead of being methodical like I had planned.

Some boat prep.

Removed the PowerPoles for powder coat. I had wrapped them but its time for a permanent refinish. They will be silver, charcoal or somewhere in between. Maybe black. I drop them off this week. I'll pick the final color when I drop them off from the samples available. Looks odd to me with them missing.

In the process of sending out the wind shields. Currently they are wrapped but I want jet black tinted ones. The port side has a crack that I can't repair any more.

Quick inspection of required safety equipment, all is up to date.

Quick bath testing the foam cannon setup.

The to do list is fuel filter, spark plus/ wires and auto bilge switch and I think I'm ready to go.

I bought a tournament style bass boat, but I don't fish competitively. Fishing is a leisure activity for me. Some local places are HP restricted or electric only, so once you go past 9.9 hp a 15Hp is the same as a 250, I bought one with a 250. It screams.. 300R will replace this 2 stroke 250 next.

We have ethanol in the states too, mostly 10%, never seen it shrink a line like that before.
I have no idea what the heck is going on... i think that 100 octane fuel is only one who eats the fuel lines. Regular dual core black rubber fuel line last for two weeks and cores starts to separate. I added liqui moly fuel stabilizer and it didnt help. I do have some blue plastic like fuel lines that wont melt or do other funky things, but they are major pain in the *** to rout because they are hard as rock and you cant really bend them.

Never seen anything eat regular fuel line that quick. I'd be curious to see how much actual ethanol you have in your fuel.

Almost got the rear disk conversion done on the XJ. I welded on some brackets for the rubber lines, bent some hard lines, and then bled everything today. All that's left is the parking brake cables / adjusting the parking brake.

The rear drums were completely inop.

Started the day in the garage -more cleaning and filling the recycling and trash bins. Came in the house to check the boiler I installed last October. FINALLY found a tiny leak, about 4-5 drops a day. I’ll get to that on Monday as it’s getting into the teens tonight. Monday is forecast in the 50’s so there will be less of a rush to fix, fill and get it back in service.

Got tired of spotty Wi-Fi in the house, so I finally installed the new mesh system with 3 nodes as well as a new, larger gigabit switch for the hard-wired stuff. Cleaned-up the rats nest of wires for the cable, OTA antenna and FM antenna. Something that’s been “on the list” for awhile.

Capped it off by going for a nice 2-mile walk. Cold, but not bad. Observed that some clumps of daffodils are starting to push their way out of the ground. Can’t wait for spring!

After baseball practice this morning I drove a little over an hour to pick up a Garden Tractor for the ballfield. I took it home and put it in my garage for right now so I can get the stuff this week to change the oil, plugs, transaxle fluid, air and fuel filters. The paint and plastics are faded a bit, so I grabbed my polisher and hit the left hand side and center of the hood. It looks like it will clean up nicely.

I have no idea how much, but i do know that pretty much all euro cars are fitted with some sort of ptfe or nylon fuel lines/tubes from the factory. I guess its due to trash ethanol fuel that we got here in EU. Buddy is running 80% ethanol / 20% 100LL mix in his drift car and went with stainless tubes to cure the problem with fuel lines. He do say that he has few pieces of ptfe line somewhere on the engine and claims its still fine after 1 year. With regular fuel lines and eth/ll100 mix his fuel lines had to be changed after every competition before je switched to ss tubes.

I don't think it's the Ethanol - I used motorcycle top grade fuel line on my white gas refueling station, and it yellows and shrinks also - and it started pretty early on. White gas is Naphtha and the base for all gasoline - prior to WWII it WAS gasoline...

Fill station.jpg
Lol diesel is called "nafta" here in croatia lol. Can high % of white fuel in gasoline harm the engine?

Tried to use the Dremel yesterday... Motor runs... But the chuck isn't connected...
Took it apart and sure enough the plastic sacrificial shaft coupling had disintegrated...
IMG_4659.jpg
Ordered a new replacement part from Dremel, but needed it to work to finish a project... So I MacGyvered it...
Used a section of adhesive type heat shrink tubing but didn't apply heat to shrink it,
Good enough to finish the project... New part should arrive today...

Good quick fix!

I did not know Dremel did this. Good to know. I still use my Dremel that I got around 1985.

Yesterday I changed the oil & filter, rotated the tires & adjusted the tire pressures & checked all the fluids in my 05 F150. Set out the sawhorses with a piece of plywood across as a makeshift table & opened up 4 used up cans of paint so what little bit of paint left can dry out so they can be disposed of at the convivence center.

A "car parts bank" is a great idea, too bad shipping costs will kill most of the savings for all but the lightest and smallest of items.

While I was out in the garage I pulled two 3" rusted bolts out of my DIY rust remover...
These were off of my 1938 Delta 12" Disc sander. (so 85 YO).. Sorry, I didn't take before pics...
Very happy with this recipe... They look brand new...

In the middle of a plumbing project from hell (they all are) the door knob of the shop decided to not work. Despite the removal of the knob I couldn’t manipulate the plunger internally to get it open. Yes I know how to do it but it wasn’t cooperating. Even briefly used the oscillating tool. To be cheap metal it’s incredibly hard. Finally used a screwdriver in the jamb and pushed the plunger. I hate kwikset. Had two new Schlage’s on hand. Went back Schlage. So now either replace the other two locks or carry two keys for the shop. Will probably just carry two keys for now.

Pic of galvanized pipe ****** that goes into the cast iron drain pipe. This is the third one I’ve done in the last couple of years. Two at my house and one at moms. 53/54 years seems to be its life.
