Just wanted to share my opinion about the Matco survey that's being given via email if you have an account with them.

I noticed at the end when asked what was most important in a tool brand they had a box that said something about most of the tools are made in the USA.
I picked the "Most important" box naturally.
I'm glad Matco is noticing that professionals want US made tools. Good job Matco!

The other thing I noticed was that I was being asked a lot about if I would consider buying consumables like oil, fluids, brake pads from mobile truck dealers. That seems odd.

The parts stores are selling tools so the tool trucks are looking at selling some of the stuff that the parts stores sell. It's just an effort to get as much business as possible. I would need a bigger truck if I was to start carrying some of that stuff.

Yeah I took that survey this morning, must say going into it I didn't think it would take 25 minutes, but that one question you listed was worth it to me to express my opinion.

I'm glad you took it then. Maybe you'll win the Ipad or whatever:thumbup:
It took me at least 45 mins. for some reason. I had lots of purchases this year though so I listed them.

Who is going to wait a week for their brake pads after ordering them, just to hear that they are backordered?

No, they're trying to figure how much they can move offshore before it hurts their business. They're owned by an Danaher (as most people here know), a publicly traded company on the stock market. They exist to make money, and don't give a rats *** about the CCO of tools as long as they still sell. Think Stanley. :(

Used to buy a lot from Matco when I was at the last store, Can't get Matco to come to the new place, apparently the old Matco guy had words with one of the techs and was ordered off the lot 2 or 3 years ago. You would think they would want to let another truck have a shot if someone asked them. I emailed customer service, got 1 reply asking for the dealership's zipcode?? (google anyone?) then nothing...guess they don't need a stop with 18 dealer mechanics. :headscrat

I don't see how buying parts from a truck would work out - We carry accounts w/ alot of distributors as-is, and can get anything w/n 1 day. At worst, we run down to a retail outlet and grab an off-shelf piece at installer pricing. Our Malco guy sells wheel weights and stuff like that, which is nice - but I don't see us ever purchasing chinese brake pads at US prices and having to wait a week for them to come in.

On topic: They don't have a "You ****" button on the survey.

My Snap-On and Mac guy sold 3M scotchbite pads off the truck. I got a box of 50 from the Snap-On guy and didn't look at the price. My Napa Sales rep saw them sitting on my desk and ask what what I was paying for them. I dug up my receipt and ask him what he sold them for before he saw mine. Same part # on the box and his was on a list he had and they were 1/3 the price I paid from Snap-On. I shamelessly returned them the next week with a bit of disgust. I kept my purchaces down to hand tools

Wow, out of all the companies I think Matco is about second to Snappy and at least most of it is US made. Sure as hell better then MAC (mostly asian ****)
If they are asking then it's on their mind and I'm happy to answer it. They can move their stuff to china or taiwan and watch their sales hit the dirt just like MAC if they don't want to listen to the customer. Not a problem! I've run off the MAC dealer around here. When he asked why I told him straight up I didn't like MAC's closing of the Sabrina plant and the flyer's are full of shirts and taiwan tools. If I wanted crappy tools I'd buy HF for 1/4 the price. He tried the ol' but it's lifetime warranty! bit and I informed him so is HF now. See ya bud! I won't even by used Mac tools. They just give you Chicom replacements.

I don't see why I'd buy oil and brake pads from the tool truck. I can't wait a week for that stuff. World pac is a phone call away or an internet order away. They deliver in 30 mins. Can you match that tool man? Doubt it.

Chad might have been talking about lower quality brands of tools as well. Parts we will never sell. you would need a fleet behind you.
I need more room as it is I cant stock anything else.

they are feeling a lot of pressure from Harbor Freight, there are way too many questions regarding HF.

You wouldn't need to carry stuff on the truck to sell it. If corporate set up an arrangement with a distributor willing to drop ship you could sell parts and consumables without ever touching them. Wouldn't work for day to day stuff but might work for volume things the shops stock up on.

Might could also manage the shops inventory to add value. Take 5 minutes to check the stock levels then hand the owner, or manager, a restocking order to sign off on.

I noticed that the questions were based on your initial information you loaded in regards to what you've bought in the past. What I found frustrating was the areas where you entered what tools you bought in the last year but it would ot accept a value of over $500, so if you bought $2,200 worth of Wright tools, you had to enter four entries with $500 and a fith entry with $200. Kind of stupid way to design an survey.

The other thing they neglected was a place to enter the info about the Crack smoing Matco dealer by my work, his ever shriking inventory and his f*cked up attitude, which this would of then required a second place to enter in that because of the crackhead that if I needed anything Matco I then have to chase down trucks elsewhere. I find this completely aggravating ince I started out buying SK as a kid and then when I was first introduced to Matco I spent $5 to 10K a year for more than a few years.
