On Friday, I went to check out a moving sale that showed some tools in the photos. And, had I looked closer, I would have seen a machinists chest in the corner of one. No worries, because as soon as I saw it and the price they were asking, I pulled the tag, shut the drawers on it, and went to pay. And they immediately asked "what would you offer?" So, I dropped the price down 20%, they accepted, and I was out the door.


some Proto, some Snap-on, some Craftsman, a lot of ****, and the hat from a bait store. Not bad for $40.

Then I swung past a restore and picked up the following:

some blades for an Xcelite, Yankee PH1 bit, SK bit driver, and a vintage light switch.

Well don't you just ****! That's a heck of a deal on that machinist chest with all the goodies inside!!

Scored a few petrolina items today, at of all places an antique store. Wartime mobil gas advertisement...came out of a big "life" size magazine so it's larger than modern prints. Also got this socony vacuum "sova suds" glass bottle to replace the one I bought a few years back and dropped.

Day One of retirement - A slow day - only 3 sales worth looking at so far...

I had hopes for the first one but he didn't have most of the tools out, and another guy just before me bought ALL the fishing gear.

I did get a Porter Cable D handle 10A router with both 1/4" and 1/2" chucks and part of the fence. All my other routers are 1/4" and smaller, so this is an upgrade.

Outlaw you'll love that router for larger tasks. The PC D handle was a staple for us . Balance, power, finger trigger makes it one of my favorite and most used routers.

Outlaw you'll love that router for larger tasks. The PC D handle was a staple for us . Balance, power, finger trigger makes it one of my favorite and most used routers.

I have the D handle for my smaller 1/4" Proter Cable Router, I bought it new at the Porter Cable Repair center we used to have 30 odd years back, when I was there getting a trigger part for a drill; saw it an had to have it.

I am looking forward to being able to use the 1/2" shank bits I have.

I'm still working on the bins, just unloaded the last one. Still have a lot of work to finish before I can call it a day. Thankfully I put a lot of LED shoplights in the carport where I am storing them.

Hit a sale today mostly void of tools but some cool older stuff. I asked about this old lunch box and got it for $10. Not tool related but had to have it once I saw the patent date.

I asked about this old lunch box...[ ]...had to have it once I saw the patent date.

That's a nice one. I have a small collection going down in the Lugzsonian. Totally relevant in my view. That patent is Albert Rotzell, 1,546,254, and it didn't travel too far from Stroudsburg, PA.

I'm whipped! Just finished getting the bins situated and did a quick clean / sort / vacuum on the 3 bins that are 30" wide and 28" deep. Some good stuff, some junk LOL. These came from various Air Force sections on the nearby base that either closed, combined or stopped doing certain things. The big bin with "Gold Flag" on it was a program that trained Airmen to repair expensive electronic equipment, potentially saving money. From copiers to expensive tools and other things. The program changed names around 2008 apparently. The 3 cabinets that are 30" wide were for lawn care, boat, trailer and other stuff. The big blue cabinet I have not had time to look much in it yet. Time for some Jack Daniel's and Coke and Tylenol LOL.

Went to my first car boot sale of the year this morning. Quite pleased with just a few things and proud that I managed to walk away from a lot more!

5/82 and 11/16" Barcalo raised panel combos. Both show no signs of use.
Britool 1/2" x 9/16" DBE. Again no signs of use.
Britool 1/4BS-3/16W x 5/16BS-1/4W DBE. Very nice condition.
Dowidat GermanyN0.6 8x9mm DOE. One spot of chrome loss.
Britool 1/2" drive Drag Link socket. UK Govt. property mark but no date. Cad plated.
Crescent Crestoloy 6" adjustable. Black Oxide with polished cheeks.
Lastly, my favourite pick of the morning. A promotional letter opener advertising Rylands-Whitecross of Warrington UK makers of nails.

£3 all in from three different sellers.

Went to Toledo for the day/evening yesterday and found an estate sale that was ending today.
Die set was $6, everything else was $20.
Bunch of Craftsman, a Proto screwdriver, some old lock cylinders, a Lakeside wrench, Channellock 420s. Part of the fun was digging through the imported junk to find the good stuff

Today I got up at the crack of dawn (nothing new in that, as it is when I always get up) and drove an hour to a small swap meet in "the city". This is a weekly that had been closed for COVID, but just started up again. It should start to get a little busier as the weather gets nicer, but I though it would be good to get out today, as not much was going on around me.

I passed up a few things of middling interest, but did pick up these two Duro/Indestro ratchets and two sockets: Snap-on and Bog for a whopping $2. The ratchets are frozen, but at that price worth it.

Then I swung down to the monthly swap between Provincial and I, hoping to run into him, but no such luck. Anyway, here is what I found

a complete set of Wards Master wrenches in roll-up (had to pony up for those), railroad brake exam booklet, oiler, countersink, and the find of the day, an early Walden speed brace with top cap! $27 for all of that.

After that I got breakfast.

Dang those wards wrenches are sweet! Not pennens made but I wouldn’t leave them behind

This popped on FBMP about 7-8 min away, so dropped by and grabbed it. Outside seems re-painted, has an extra latch on the front and missing the handle. But it has the cover, and hard to go wrong @ $10! Worst case, it becomes a parts donor box for others... The other Heritage machinist box I have is more of a silver hammered, this is a grayer version of the blue-gray wrinkle inside the drawers.

Here it is sitting on the Heritage cart up-thread. It is a bit smaller in width than ideal, but not so much it is noticeable.

Edit: No idea why the inside of the drop front is so blue. Guessing repaint, as it is much a lighter shade than the Long C Blue.

I hit an estate sale Friday but prices were list or more. Went back Saturday for half price day and made offers. Mostly for consumables like washcloths for shop towels, fire ant poison and the like. But also picked up this first model Workmate for $25 and keymaker for $20.

Picked all this stuff up for 'Free' yesterday at an estate sale in my HOA. Lots of cool stuff in these pics. Those green Remington boxes are full of .22 Cal bullets as well the small box of crimped blanks. Couple nice old whistles with lanyards, Old E'Tool shovel (I'm gong to restore that) a 1970's era NOS Realistic AM Radio from Radio Shack, a World Globe game of some kind with instruction (needs batteries), several old bowling trophies and plaques (I 'm going to modify them into auto and motorcycle trophies for our car shows.) Nice blanket which looks to never have been used. Over all a nice haul for free.

They're both Acme Thunderer's. I especially like that they have their original lanyards attached.

Motorman55, the two magazines in the middle are from a Colt 1911 and a Lugar. Check and see if there are any stampings on the base of them, as that can make something nice into something very valuable, especially in the Lugar.

I don't usually spend time looking at the classified here at GJ, but for whatever reason I was, and saw a listing for this

listed at $40 shipping included. And in a moment of weakness, I succumbed.

Well, it arrived today, 29lbs by the shop scale. And holy moly, it was worth it.

there was some junk, shown above with the SK/Lectrolite that I am keeping, but there was a lot of metric Craftsman
