12 year old car needing 12 year old car things. Valve cover gasket and oil control valve gasket were weepy and making a huge mess.

Fresh OEM replacements went on, everything cleaned up while I was in there.

This car has 165,000 miles on it, but you’d never know by looking at the top end.

I know right?? But, it's actually a customer ski. Going all brand new with fresh overbore, new carb kits, pump attention, and a few other things is still WAYY cheaper than a new 'DOO.
Yea. Very true. I've decided to keep my 800 skidoo and add an 850 to my trailer. Between the 800 parts prices and the challenge to find the parts, it's worth me getting a newer "used" snowmobile.

I had a stack of chains to sharpen so I got to work cleaning them. A strong pour of Simple Green and a good hard brush to clean the crud off along with a super custom chain washing board make short work of this mundane task.
IMG_3286.jpeg

Once they’re sharp I soak them in a pail with some light penetrating oil, 2-stroke oil and some 0w-20 for a few hours. I hang them to drip dry and stick them in a ziplock the next day labeled with size and grind specs.

Did some chain sharpening at work last week. No cleaning or oiling for these. Guys here like to do almost as much trenching and they do tree cutting. These were mostly the very small Stihl 1/4" pitch pole saw chains.

Finished another Weber restoration. Newer one this time Genesis ii S-345. Did a full breakdown repaint with black high temp paint on the metal parts and black high temp plastic paint on the plastic parts for a full color change. Wire wheeled out the cookbox and lid end caps and center piece. Added all new 304 SS parts in the cookbox.

Took the Miata out for a drive. Came home and washed it and did a quick interior wipe down with some 303 protectant. I truly hate washing cars.
Started disassembling a couple of old desktop computers. The newer one being from 2003. Keeping the fans and power supply's, recycling the boards at work, rest goes in the garbage.

Glued the second side pieces together.

IMG_6648.jpeg

Drilled the first set of legs for dowels, glued and clamped.

IMG_6647.jpeg

Finished up the upgrades to a couple of wren houses.

IMG_6649.jpeg

Dad made these years ago. They got new perches, a coat of paint, and the left one got a shingle to cover up what’s left of the plywood roof.

Then started surgery on my shop vac.

IMG_6640.jpeg

The power switch has failed in the “on” position.

IMG_6646.jpeg

It looks like a standard rocker switch with that little paddle thing added on for the giant red buttons. Going to try to track down a replacement, first, before hacking something else in to make it work again.

Toggle universal switch, or just a blade style.
It will outlast the vacuum.

My garage air compressor power switch left the chat long ago, since it has a regulator I plug it in, when finished with work I just unplug from the extension cord. Switch is bypassed:)

Plugging away at the trailer rehab. Got it all painted, got the axle and suspension in plus other misc. parts. Started fitting the deck boards then once they were good i coated them with some diesel/oil mix. Next up is final install of the boards, install the lights, a little touchup paint and new tires.

Continuing to go through the old wrench lot, clean and keep, and toss to the metal bin where required. Finally got my Goodyear tire insert installed, and hung up. It is off by about 1/16". That **** drives me crazy. Next up, change the oil on the Vette. My pickup yelled at me as I walked by, "hey what about my starter". All in good time old friend, all in good time.

Made a real mess Saturday in the garage making some stands for my son's steel challenge shooting practice. After cutting the 1x4's to sized I rounded the edges with a router to limit the amount of splinters we receive when handling the stands.

You can see the base of the stand on the floor to the right of the step ladder. 3D printed all the brackets (blue parts) so the stand can be broken down and transported/stored more easily.

What paint do you use? I had mine blasted and painted several years back but turns out the guy must have used some cheap paint and applied a thin coat. I need to replace the boards so considering cleaning/sanding/painting when I do. Would appreciate pointers on how you did yours.

Not sure why I keep falling off this thread...

For now I have it zip tied on, should it misbehave I will drill and hard mount.

You'll be bolting it. Compressors like to walk.

What Kay said - you wil also need at least one wheel lockable or a chock for it as it wil walk away, possiblu into the street...

Started disassembling a couple of old desktop computers. The newer one being from 2003. Keeping the fans and power supply's, recycling the boards at work, rest goes in the garbage.

Pull the drives too, and if nothing else use it's own magnets to scramble the data on the disks.

Then started surgery on my shop vac.

I need to do this - the bearings are screaming at me.

Made a real mess Saturday in the garage

Your mess is spotless compared to most garage/shops!

A rather productive day in the shop without the race car in the way.

- Changed parts washer solvent
- Cleaned parts washer and added ball-valve for the drain along with a filter
- Mounted (2) fire extinguishers in the shop
- Did routine maintenance on all the smaller outdoor power equipment
- Washed the motorcycle
- Cleaned and organized the shop

I need to do that! Spring is right around the corner and have several downed trees that will be ready for bucking and splitting

I usually wait until I have a bunch to do then tear through them all at once. A buddy dropped off a couple to sharpen and I did the five that were hanging of my own as well. I really enjoy sharpening chains. It’s easy work and makes me smile when a different grind I tried out works out for the better.

He wanted “stock specs” so he got mostly stock specs. I hate sharpening chains at 30* and usually do 22.5-25 as they hold an edge way longer. They cut a tad slower but that’s fine with me.

yeah, I think I have 2/3 for each of my 3 saws hanging in the shop. Its nice to have several so if you have a long weekend of cutting, you can just keep going....

I have an irrational desire to fix things if possible.

ShopVac doesn’t have parts, but they did offer me 1/2 off buying a new vacuum. That doesn’t appeal.

A replacement rocker switch from mouser.com is about a buck. Will need minor modification.

Tested out the kayak roller on the ladder rack. It worked really well. My 11yo son was able to guide the back of the kayak up and didn't while I did the lifting from the tailgate.

Then we tried out some fishing rod holders on the kayak for this weekend.

The fishing rod holders did not work well. Not enough grip on the coaming lip and they kept popping off. I'll need to design and 3d print something.

Wrapped up the bilge cover plate. I'd like to say I aced it 1st try, but that's not the case. A couple misaligned holes called for some extra work. Ended up filling 3 holes with metal epoxy putty, but I saved it.

It's in and I'm happy with it. I drilled and counter sunk the bolts, used M12 cutoff wheel and added some areas for the epoxy putty to bite better. I've used this technique before with great success. There's no access to the bottom. It's the best solution I have available with my tools and ect..

Left myself a reminder not to mess with the 1/4x20 bolts that holds the mounting plate to the switch/ pump cover.

Bunch of pictures, no order

We are doing a road trip in the coming weeks, so I did some maintenance and pre-trip going over on the wife's 454SS. Got my first use of the new Lock N Lube grease gun, works well! Tightened/retorqued the leaf spring u-bolts and wheel nuts. Topped up the air in the tires and checked fluids.
