SK has posted their new warranty policy.

http://www.skhandtool.com/warranty.html

Here are a few of the details:

-Warranty returns handled at no charge through SK dealers.

-Items can be sent to SK directly. Requires a $5 processing fee.
Please reference the new SK Hand Tool LLC Warranty Policy for coverage guidelines and allow 8-10 weeks for processing. Warranty Claims can be handled through your local SK distributor at no charge or sent directly to SK and processed for a $5 processing fee. For direct warranty claims, please send payment and the defective product to:

SK Hand Tool LLC
1600 S. Prairie Dr
Sycamore IL 60178

-It appears Ideal will honor the warranty on pre-Ideal tools.
While SK Hand Tool LLC is not liable for warranty claims on product produced and sold by SK Hand Tool Corporation, as the new SK Hand Tool LLC, we value your dedication to the SK brand and want to make good on the situation in accordance with the new SK Hand Tool LLC Warranty Policy and Guidelines.

-Warranty claims accepted starting March 1st, 2011.

I'm not bitching about five dollars as it is not a big deqal to me, when I sent in snap on tools for warranty it sure wasn't free postage and it took two months plus to get all the stuff. Wright and Proto for me have been the fastest and Cornwell dealers have always been around. Our newest snap on guy came by twice and now drivers by so I look for him to last about six months like all the rest so back to mailing it will be at my cost.

Not to rehash a subject that was beat to death before but if it's $5.00 per tool, Ideal can shove SK where the sun don't shine. I know Ideal doesn't have to honor anything from the old SK days and they could change the logo and only warranty the new Ideal made SK tools. Hopefully, there will be a larger more effective dealer network to handle the warranty issues. Hell, I'd be happy if they made decent tools that didn't fail in the first place. Anyway, they should hold off announcing things like warranty support until they know exactly what they're going to do and have a line of tools to back it up.

is it just me or did all of my local sk distributors discount all the tools and sold them off? so they are going to restock the stores again and take warranty tools again?

sounds like a recipe for going bankrupt

ive been finding a LOT of brand new SK open stock at flea mkts and a local "tool store"

i think a lot of small business's went belly up in the past couple years, and the tool vultures were circling.

thats what i'm waiting to see.
back in the day seems like every real auto parts store had SK tools.
it's hard to find a real auto parts store anymore....

True. But I guess the guys that buy spinner hubcaps at Vato-zone arent looking for quality tools. 'Performance Tool' seems adequate to fill that market.

The only "warranty" issue I ever had with an S-K tool was chrome peeling. Back then (early '80s), the warranty was "guaranteed against everything but theft".
I'm glad Ideal bought them up, but, as several of you have commented, the tool line will only be as sucessful as the dealer network. We'll have to wait and see what develops on that front.

If ideal can figure out the dealer chain and fix warranty issues SK will be a success. Before SK went belly up and I mean way before it was very difficult to get warranty service.

They KNOW if they don't warranty the Old SK tools sales would fall off to near nothing. They act like they are doing you a favor by blowing that smoke up your ***. I'm a huge fan of SK but my business is doing them a favor.

well its not just that, if they reap the benefit of the sales of NOS SK tools and then said they werent going to warranty them how fast do you think they'd move off shelves?

looks like another love-hate sk thread, no more no less.:deadhorse

It would be nice if people would atleast let them open their doors for customers before blasting them, or how about before cussing them can they do something to cause a problem

It's not that, Instead of acting like they are doing you a favor they needed to word it like." Not only we continue to warranty all SK tools but we will improve your warranty process. We will continue to produce quality tools as you have come to expect from SK Hand Tools" It ends the same way but puts some renforcement and confidence back on the brand.

I think the drawn out failure of the company, its impact on customer service; the fall out from that failure, left a bad taste in many people's mouths (customers, distributors etc.)... its gonna take awhile for the company to get back on its feet. Time will tell if they can produce quality tools, value and provide the customer service, people expect from a professional tool company. I think the loss of popularity and dealers was something of a slow death... lets hope they can turn things around and become, once again.... a brand widely available and easy to warranty.

Hilarious post, but living here in Vato-land, I gots to tell ya: The Mexicans know good tools, and charge for them. They are VERY aware of which brands are USA made and will inevitably point that out, and ask a premium for them. The Vatos are as aware of COO as we are. Whitey will sell me a quality USA tool for cheap and not know it's quality...but not Vato, he knows!

Yup. bad taste in automotive embellishment does not equal ignorance to quality of tool. I used to work w/ a guy from venezuela (not mexican), he knew more about quality US made tools than most people in the shop. He also had a penchant for german tweezers.

That's funny, here in the middle east it's the same. They know exactly what tools are American made, and even more prevalent, German made. I will try to haggle a little bit on something and they always say ". . .ahhhh, but see it's made in Germany, very good tool" You can never fool them on the difference between US and German versus Taiwan, India, China

I took it that it was $5 total for warranty returns. No matter how many tools you sent it was $5, that's how I read it. I hope that they get the site up soon and it a little better to navigate.
