That part does not move. If you look at my first pic you can see the bearing right up against the board and the endcap at an angle for access to the screws. I think you need to tap on the endcap lightly so the bearing moves out of it. Just have to be careful not to slam the endcap against the board. Thanks! But this is in front. How do I remove this piece (has 3 screw like items --- arrows pointing to them) so that I can get to the screws?
The Cobbler is right that the bearing is a snug fit in the housing but just some light tapping should be enough to move it giving you some room to get to the screwsI am guessing the bearing is a lite press fit in to the housing and a and a bit tighter press fit on the armature
some heat on the of of the housing at the bearing may be all you need to "tap" it off
I have an E-7 too. So. Do I place the whole piece on an open vice with the end cap being held with the opening and tap on the shift lightly until the bearing moves enough so I can get to the screws. Or do put the shft down against a solid wood block and bang on end cap until eveything moves enough to get to screws to remove? Don't want to make a mistake. My pics are from a model E-7, not sure what you have but should be close.

Both methods have gravity working against you and when the bearing moves out it could slam against the board.Do I place the whole piece on an open vice with the end cap being held with the opening and tap on the shift lightly until the bearing moves enough so I can get to the screws.
