I always thought it would be great to have a halon fire suppression system in my house that I could link to the burglar alarm when I was out of town. If anybody broke in, they'd suffocate when the system pumped the house full of gas. Problem solved. Unfortunately, the law frowns on such measures.

It would be a real shame if some *glitch* in the system thought the house was on fire instead of being burgaled ;)

sorry for the loss and all the trouble. this is one of the reasons why i video all my tools and valuables. i scan recipets and info and store them online and on usb drives that are hidden or kept off site(mailed to grandma's house) where i can get them back asap. i also keep documents off site at my dads job, a private bank, with a secure vault. they allow executives to have a private box for documents like deeds and such.(boxes are inspected once or twice a year, and cash and other valuables cannot be kept in them)

i guess my dad taught me to keep good records, other people's experiences have caused me to video/photo all valuables, record dates blah blah. i would upgrade the alarm and then add locks and change the others. there is good advice here as well, but in reality nothing will stop the most professional thieves, short of items that will send you to prison in most places

Not to be beligerant, but I haven't read where you know for sure who did it. Is it just one of those- I know that SOB did it, or do you really have any proof

A recorded confession from the suspect

recovered items from the burglary in his home and vehicle.

Suspect "lawyer-ed" up and now claims the "confession" was coerced and the items recovered were planted by people attempting to frame him.

Some updates.

A vehicle that was recovered at the suspects home and towed to the local tow yard that has a police impound area has been sitting in that impound since Aug 25th. the yard is a friend of mines.

Sitting in plain view on the front seat of this locked vehicle are my Tiger wave safety wire pliers and my first responder trauma kit, (with my names stenciled in plain site)

I have made over a dozen phone calls to the police department and keep being told they are very busy and have not been able to attain a search warrant to open the truck and recover my property yet.

It is now 8 weeks since the robbery, the only items recovered and returned to me consist of about 5% of the total property taken.

As it stands now, I just want my property out of that truck, (I have no idea what other items are in it but I suspect there is more) The police have no interest in actually investigating this crime and are bordering on criminal behavior in regards to my property. I bet I could get a lawyer to file against the PD for possession of stolen property as the items in that truck are mine, and reported stolen, and the police will not process it so they are in fact in possession of it.....

Wow, another new day in America, where will it ever end ?!

Where exactly does your shop sit, as in, what major metro area PD is this dysfunctional ? I assuming your in a major metro area, only after living and working in the big city and now residing in BFE...(the sheriff out here has way too much time on his hands...)

I just want to be sure not to wind up there some day..

I feel for ya, I really do.

Ugh, what a terrible mess. Good luck with all of this Robert and try to keep yourself calm while the proper steps are followed.

This won't win you any friends with the local PD, but at this point you have no choice.

Assume you filed with a local metro PD. If everything you say is factual and that the evidence is in plain sight and they aren't acting on it. Take it to the next level. File the report with the county sherrif's office specifically stating why you are doing so (failure of local PD to investigate felony theft), and subsequently higher to the state PD.

Doing this will get the case reviewed by some higher ups at the local PD, as they will be questioned by outside authorities.

You don't mention what city/state you are in, but doing so may be helpful in terms of people to contact. If you're in a city there are always local officials that you can personally contact for help.

Good luck.

I don't know about where you live but around here the highest ranking Law enforcement officer in any area is the County Attorney or District Attorney and their contact info is not hard to get off of your county's website. They have the stroke to get **** done. If you are in the right I wouldn't be afraid to tell whoever you talk to that if this matter doesn't get the proper attention you will be contacting the local news paper or such.

That is a good point, I used to sell homeowners insurance and we always suggested people add "replacement cost" to their policy, it should be a standard if you ask me.

I asked my agent (years ago) if I had replacement cost coverage, he said no...I asked how much is it...he said no additional charge, but you have to ask for it. Can you believe that.....true story. :wtf:

Part of my plan is to install "outdoor" motions, that will alert me of someone on the property, prior to an alarm/break-in. Basically, giving me a "heads up". So I know someone has "landed" but not broke in yet, giving me the advantage of showing up and causing them to **** themselves when I'm standing behind them and telling them to " smile and wait for the flash ".

I have a system with outdoor motion detectors, they activate a voice module and a message plays through the outdoor loudspeaker....."You have entered a secured area, video cameras are recording your activity, this system is monitored and the police are being alerted, You must leave immediatly" You can record your own message. System is monitored but most people are scared off by the message as it suprises / scares them. The best alarm is one that can prevent the crime / break in in the first place.

I've had zero trouble since installing this voice system.
