This week is going to be a pain, I have a bunch of things that have to get done by Thursday and I can't get ahold of half the contacts that I need to. Normally I would be good through Friday, but both municipalities I am dealing with are closed on Fridays, I can stretch things until Monday, but I don't really want to.

I am currently trying to figure out if I can use a smaller idler for my big rotary phase converter or if it is useless without running the 40 HP idler. I have located a 20 HP motor, so that could be the ticket. The sales people were no help and the machine shop side was already closed, so that will have to wait until tomorrow as well.

You start the RPC on a small/er idler. You bring in more idlers if you have more load than the first one can handle.
It's just an additional contactor per idler. And contactors get a lot cheaper as size goes down. Tune each idler / caps separate on the idler side of the contactor.

I am trying not to buy something, but dang it is difficult. I was thinking it would be nice to have a press brake to bend brackets and tabs, found a cool 70 ton unit that is more of a punch machine than press, but it has adapters to press steel (factory units) and it has the capacity to bend 1/4" steel four feet long. Will bend 3/4" about 12" long. I am thinking the money would be better spent on other things and I can just build my crazy 150 ton unit instead. If the seller would come down on the price, I might attack, but at this point they are holding firm and the price is $2500 over what I would like to spend. So the thought of another project to justify not spending money, weird twist of events?

Unless you are doing production work, get a press brake attachment for the iron worker and be done.

I use the 8" one on my Piranha for stuff. Hydraulic makes it easy to get the bends to the right angle.

Or the SWAG press brake attachment for a hydraulic press. Once you grow past that, maybe consider a better press brake. But start with the right size to scale into things.

Yes, it is hard not to buy things. Once you break the habit, life is easier tho....

So like they want $2500?

Isn't there anybody in the area that has a big press brake you can just pay for machine time on for the once in a while you need this type of tool? I don't know about your workflow but i would struggle to find the need to use something like that very often. Seems like very low ROI time wise.

I do use a decent amount of bent material for the side business that I have, and I can't justify a press brake... Are they nice...yes, but way too expensive, and a premium for floor space.
What kind of stuff would you really do with a press brake, and how often? Can you just outsource those particular parts?
I use a combination of Sendcutsend, Oshcut, and my semi-local laser/press brake company.
I occasionally bend some small parts in-house: 0.040" aluminum on a 48" folding table, 8" press brake attachment in heavy duty vise. I also use that for bending smaller tabs and brackets out of 1/8" steel. I have 20+ years of experience designing and manufacturing bent metal parts, so no shortage of experience in this area, still can't justify a press brake...yet!

I'm a proponent of save your money, and save your limited floor space, and put it on your wish list for now. You have bigger fish to fry with getting off the Hill and getting your vehicles/trailer fully operational.

But, I also know you'll do what you do.... so share pics if you do buy it!!! (hopefully not).

So, I know it has been a while since we talked QR codes and organization, but a friendly member of the forum helped me through a couple sticking points on the setup and now I have an all in one URL shortener and QR code creator that will allow me to use dropbox links but create the QR codes from shortened links that I host and control (and can edit). I am now getting myself into the weeds a bit with something that really doesn't matter, but it really does, at least my OCD thinks so. I currently own three domains. Tell me what you think, I have an opinion, but I am curious to see what everyone else thinks (without my thoughts or influence). They are:

lok8bin.com

watzinit.com

lok8.org

These would be solely for the purpose of my organizing QR codes, I am not opposed to other ideas.

Are those your only two options? Being that this will be a website I'd pick something as innocuous as possible, something that would be very unlikely to draw much interest. So in that regard I'd vote for the first one.

Although if the second one is cheap enough I'd consider buying the rights to that one too. I may be completely out to lunch here but I'd think that domain name would be worth something to the right person.

I own those two already, I can get a shorter one that has a .org tag, that would be least likely to get attention, but it isn't like I am advertising or anything. I just think it would be nice to have the shortest link possible so if I have to do any entry of things later it is easier.

watzinit.com 👍
I really do like this one, but my only hangup is that lok8bin is essentially all on one side of the keyboard and watzinit is spread across the entire keyboard. Seems like a silly reason, but it is a reason. Watzinit is definitely broader and if I ever was to do some sort of commercial endeavor it would probably be the better one.

Everything I post is done on my phone, it’s only 4 thumbs wide. Nothing is far apart. 👍

Make a barcode for "watzinit" so you can scan it and populate it on the screen. One for watzinit

So when I don’t post, everyone posts, but when I ask for input, crickets.

OK, so I haven't been the best host lately, I apologize, I guess for penance I am going to have to get a couple more semi dead forklifts.
I got no skin in your game. Pick the one you like, and some troll will tell you why you'll burn in some esoteric hell. I'd use a circular choice device.

I agree with Kay, pick the one you like, don't tell anyone so it can stay private, and use it! I just want to see the results of lots of labels on lots of totes put onto lots of pallet racking with as many different forklifts as possible!
That's what we really want to see... more forklift pictures!
Or payloader or knuckleboom crane or trailers...
Hoping for good progress for you this weekend!

Snow/rain predicted for here in South Dakota, it should be a mess regardless of what we get, but we'll be happy, as it is very dry right now and red alerts for fire risk almost every day due to dry and windy.
I have tree scraps to burn, but no burning right now.

Why does it have to be web based and available to anyone? Can’t you generate a data base w/ private access?

By doing it web based, I eliminate the need for a local server, also the program I am using takes a long dropbox link and makes a shortened redirect and at the same time creates a QR code for this link. It saves a database of the codes and links, they are also can be updated, so if dropbox changes the links I can fix them. If I just make a QR code using the dropbox link, if dropbox ever changes, I will have to print new QR codes, the alternative is to pay for dynamic QR codes, but then someone else has control over them. This seems like the best route to go, it also won't be accessible to anyone without a password, eventually. For now I have created a redirect to another one of my domains, so there isn't really anything to even see.
