I was recently given a makita corded drywall router . It wasn't used much, the owner said it has never worked properly and not a lot of power . he said I think it has a bad cord...
Anyway, the Cobbler is always up for a challenge on tools , even if I don't need one. I already have a Dewalt that is virtually never used anymore
I plugged it in today & it acted like a burned armature , same sounds and same roughness and what I thought an excessive spark from the brushes . ..
opened it up fully expecting to see burned segments on the commutator , but it was fine. no burned windings , everything looked honky dory ...
But, there was 1 brush & holder oriented the wrong way on the armature, it had been put in the wrong way . 90° to the way it should be sitting.
It had worn the brush in to that orientation.
I filed the brush as best I could to curve it the right way and reassembled it all. Low & behold, it acts like it should.
I guess even the best of tool makers have mistakes .
